In the July issue of SW Insider on page 7, there is an interesting statement regarding the scene of Luke and R2 in the teaser trailer. It has a picture of the scene, with this comment associated to it.

    1. A touch of love or a touch of evil? We think
we know whose mechanical hand that is… but
is there a surprise in store?

I know there have been rumors of either Luke or Leia turning to the dark side.
Do you think this is a real hint, or possibly misdirection?

Seems like they are trying to make those scenes mysterious when they are not mysterious at all. That is clearly Luke with R2 and that is Leia receiving the lightsaber, they wouldn't go as far as deceiving people with the trailer.

I think it's pretty obvious who's hand it is but they are probably just trying to fill space.

No does not look official. Just someone posting random tweets. Came up in my news feed last week so I started following. Sent a few messages to them but I never got a response from them.

It's not. That Twitter user has been around less than two weeks, has four followers and appears to attempting to sound as though he's "in the know."

At any rate, he has nothing to do with Star Wars Insider.

I subscribe to SWI, and read that also. Misdirection I think, perhaps not BY them, as they write about what they can find and are told like everyone else.

Oh it is, but it's officially the "Official Lucasfilm Fan Club Magazine"...so you have to take that for whatever it's worth. I've been reading it since it first came into existence in the late 80's.

Keep in mind that it's directed to and for the fans and even features fan fiction etc. I see your angle here, and in retrospect have seen pre-release hints dropped, but they're only reporting what they're told by the people behind the "Magic Laboratory" doors.

Agreed. However, it certainly was something that caught my attention considering the recent rumors of someone turning to the dark side in Eps 7.
I also found it interesting that in the same SW Insider issue they did a review/revisiting of the Dark Empire comic from 20years ago, which is about Luke turning to the dark side. What is the point in revisiting a non-canon comic from 20 years ago in a current SW publication. I think they are really trying to screw with us.

In addition, the Lando story was pretty good. Should I assume it is canon, or not?

To the first line; I think so...blatant misdirection ("blatant" to us anyway).

Secondly; I didn't read the Lando story....I will tonight and let you know my thoughts about it! :)

    I don't get the debate.

"My father has it (Vader's burned mask).... I have it (Luke's hand with R2).... My sister has it (Thanks to the costume leak, now confirmed to be Leia)"

Pretty simple. The only mystery, is when he says "You have that power to."

I know it's an original line from ROTJ, but I'm convinced it applies to a new character. Everything in these trailers happens for a reason.

Less about WHO is touching R2, and more WHY they are. That was what I got from the comments in SW Insider.
That's if they AREN'T giving misdirection.

This is probably out there, but what if the hooded figure placing his hand on R2 is Snoke? There have been rumors tying him to the attack on Luke's academy, so it's possible he was there. However, rumors that Snoke is a cyborg have also been ramping up lately—so what if?
