Well, Boba Fett fans have no doubt waited for this issue. This could definitely be tagged as the bounty hunter's "comic coming out" issue, as if he were some cherished debutant awaiting the big night to say "I'm here" to his fans.

    Tatooine.png

Luke is back on Tatooine, looking for answers about the Jedi and what his father's story is. It's nice to see the journey Luke is taking to track down any knowledge he can about the Jedi. The moment in A New Hope where he abandons his dead end life and embarks on the hero's journey is being solidified with each of these comics. I'm hoping as the scope Marvel covers widens we get more Luke. Especially what happened between his defeat in The Empire Strikes back and the confident Jedi he became, taking on the Sith.

    Boba Fett 02.png

Oh yeah, Boba Fett is on Tatooine, too. He's flying all over the desert planet, killing all sorts of familiar creatures, trying to track down Luke Skywalker. We find that Boba is exactly what everyone has come to love: cold, deadly, and without a glimmer of remorse. As he interrogates one of Luke's old pals, anyone who has viewed the deleted scenes on the Blu-Ray will be rewarded with a shoutout to Luke's nickname.

    Ships.png

Han and Leia's blossoming and tenuous relationship is also underscored in this issue. I feel like the dialogue seems more natural here as they attempt to trick a group of TIE Fighters their stolen Inperial shuttle is legit. The seeds are definitely planted for the intensity between them in The Empire Strikes Back.

    Tusken.png

Meanwhile, back on Tatooine, Luke has arrived at Obi-Wan Kenobi's old home to find it being looted by Tusken Raiders. One ignition of a lightsaber they've seen before is all Luke needs to do to send them scattering, as I'm sure word has gotten around that people with lightsaber said mean business when it comes to Sand People.

Just as Luke finds what he's looking for an unexpected visitor shows up. Insert cliffhanger.

Another good outing for the namesake series. The artwork continues to capture the expressions of all familiar faces and that is no small feat. Don't waste any time getting your hands on this issue, as I'm sure the next one is going to be must-read material.

This was definitely my favorite issue of the main Star Wars series. I'm looking forward to June 3rd as both Vader #6 and Star Wars #6 come out on that day. Hopefully we will see a nice round-off to the two story arcs and maybe even more connections between the two congruous stories. The stand out points in this issue for me were as follows:

    1. Han and Leia's budding love/hate romance...as far as dialogue goes, these fun conversations were the strongest in the issue.
    2. Boba Fett is definitely the ruthless, take-no-crap-off-of-anybody killer that we all knew he was but didn't "really" know until now. :)
    3. Sand people cowering in fear over a lightsaber...ironically the same one that was used to kill the first whole village of the aliens in AOTC...and with the recent genocide executed by Vader, their fear is definitely warranted.
    4. not really a "stand out point" but I liked how Han almost mentioned Lando but Leia cut him off before he could say his name...another close call (intentional obviously) for the Lucasfilm Story Group. ;)

Fantastic issue! Anyone still think that Disney will make Boba Fett a good guy? ;)

Many of the team members of the Avengers were once enemies/villains before their redemption and decision to join the team, so anything is possible. However, I don't expect this with Fett. Thank you Marvel. Boba Fett is awesome...other arguments are now invalid.

I loved the part where Han gets on the comm to give the, "We're all fine here...how are you?" sort of response to the TIE pilots. It echoes my favorite bit of Han--from the prison-break scene in ANH--and it works out for them just about how you'd expect it to work :)

The dialogue, especially between Leia and Han, was spot on. I could FINALLY hear the actors' voices saying these words exactly as written. In all of the Star Wars media that's come before (not counting the films of course) I think this book finally gets it right. Just enough sass, subtext, and attitude, but not hack caricatures.

Star Wars #5 is where this series hits its stride. Although, I have to say it's still a ways behind Kanan in terms of sheer narrative momentum and intriguing character development, and certainly trailing Darth Vader with regard to sheer comic book wackiness. I still rank it #2 among the new SW books, if nothing else but for the art and dialogue.

Yep, have to agree with all of those points. Regarding #3
I love how they also added the comment from Luke of what he might have done if the sand people hadn't run, and how the hatred he was feeling didn't seam like it was the Jedi way. As if they were trying to make the direct comparison to what Anakin did to that village in AOTC and the choices Luke makes in nearly the same situations.

I heard that was actually one of George's goals with the PT was to have Luke and Anakin in similar circumstances and show the difference in the choices they made and how that lead to Anakin falling to the dark side while Luke's choices kept him in the light and even brought about Anakin's redemption.

You mentioned the story group in #4. I think they are missing something with this series and the Heir to the Jedi novel.

My understanding was this comic series was about two weeks after ANH, while Heir was some time after that. The biggest issue I see is that in Heir, Luke only believed that telekinesis through the Force was theoretically possible, he had not actually witnessed it before. However, in the series, Vader takes his lightsaber away from him with the force.

I don't like seeing them get little things wrong like the transports that left Hoth Base flying next to the medical frigate. Those didnt hook up to form the 'rebel fleet' until after the battle of Hoth in ESB.

Just like the Mon Calmari ships didnt join the fleet until after ESB

    But that's just me.

    Hi,

Really enjoy the comic but struggling with one particluar part.
Bascially one story arc is Vader finding out how the pilot is that destroyed the death star.

Now in this comic we see Boba Fett (=hired by Darth Vader) and he knows the following:

    1) Luke was at Tatooine with Obi Wan (thats why he asks arount at Tatooine)
    2) Luke was with Han (Thats why he asked about Han in Star Wars #4)

I can only assume he has all the information from Vader because he tells him in Darth Vader #1
    ==========================================================================
There is an x-wing pilot. He knew an Obi-wan Kenobi. He left this planet (= tatooine) aboard a smugglin vessel called the millennium falcon.
    ==========================================================================

Now I am interessted in how DV knows all this.
    Let me disect :
    a) There is an x-wing pilot. He knew an Obi-wan Kenobi. => having encountered Luke again at Cymoon I he now knows that Luke is the pilot
of the x-wing (although he does not realize it during the fight which I find a bit odd). And that Luke knows Obi-Wan because Luke told him aswell.
    b) aboard a smugglin vessel called the millennium falcon.
Luke told DV that he saw DV kill Obi-wan during the fight. So DV knows about the Millenium Falcon (did he recoccnized this specific YT-1300 light freighter
when it left the death star ?) and that Luke and Obi-wan were on it.
    c) He left this planet (aboard a smugglin vessel called the millennium falcon.)
Sorry about the long winded explainatin but here is the bit I do not understand... WHY does DV know that Luke left Tatooine on it ?!?
Some Stormtroopers might have seen Luke, Obi-wan and Han using the Millenium Falcon to escape Tatooine but HOW did DV know that this is the same guy
that ended up on the DV watching him kill Obi-wan. Could have been some other guy! How did DV made the connection with the Millenium Falcon escaping on
Tatooine and arriving on the Death Star. Its not impossible to explain but quite some elaborate investigation would be required from DV point of view.
Would have been nice to see how DV reached this important conclusion ...

    c) is pretty important because without it Boba-Fett would not know where to look and ask for Luke like in #5...

as I said .. like the commics but this just bugged me last night ...

Perhaps because of this line from an imperial officer to Tarkin in ANH:

INT. DEATH STAR - CONFERENCE ROOM

Tarkin pushes a button and responds to the intercom buzz.

    TARKIN
    Yes.

    VOICE
    (over intercom)
    We've captured a freighter entering
the remains of the Alderaan system.
It's markings match those of a ship
that blasted its way out of Mos
    Eisley.

    VADER
They must be trying to return the
stolen plans to the princess. She
may yet be of some use to us.

So I guess he knows its the same ship due to its markings!

good point... did not remember that dialogue. Would have been nice if they would have expanded a little bit on Darth Vaders reasoning before he hires Boba Fett....
as i said .. nothing big .. really enjoy the comics otherwise

Haven't gotten my hands on this issue yet. Which friends of Luke do we see? Do they survive? Is Anchorhead in the Comic?

Whereas Boba Fett has a huge fan base, a lot of fans (especially movie only fans) do not understand the infatuation some have with the character and seem to find him overrated. I agree that from the film standpoint, Boba Fett is nothing special. It's the old EU (now legends) comics where we saw this character shine. The EU comics made Boba Fett. I like how they are using the same medium (now in an official capacity) to flesh out the character. It's a great throwback to how his popularity initially took off and as a comic fan it's great to see play out from panel to panel. I just hope they continue to show Boba Fett in this way and shy away from an origin story for the character. It seems like we all want answers and explanations for everything nowadays...why can't we have some mystery? I hope any future films involving the character follow that idea also. IMO we don't need to see a 15 yr old Jango clone finding himself, not even seeing the iconic armor until the end of the story. We need more of the Boba Fett that was shown in this issue.

I wouldn't mind seeing a little more of Boba Fett in his younger days, but I think it would be best in small appearances, maybe as a supporting character like he is here in other comics like Kanan or even in Rebels.

I wouldn't mind seeing him get a comic series depicting his rumored escape from the Sarlacc and his adventures after that. I know we pretty much got that in a trilogy of novels from the EU/Legends, but the canon story wouldn't have to be the same.
