Who seduces a brutal, Imperial governor known as the "Burning Moff" so he can steal a piece of technology to pay off a large debt, ends up confessing to said governor in bed that he was using her all along and then manages to sweet talk his way out of her bed while she has a blaster pointed at his head? Who does that?

    Screenshot-2.png

    Lando does that.

This is a really great start to a great issue in a very promising series. Don't worry, it's not all sweet talking and suave moves. We actually meet up with Lando when he is in a very desperate situation. From the little backstory we get, Lando has a serious gambling problem and got in deep with the wrong people. The device he stole buys him a little more time, but the crime boss he is in deep with has another task for him: steal a luxury ship from a secret Imperial shipyard. Then Lando can walk away without a bounty on his head.

    Screenshot-3.png

Lando is not alone in this mission. He recruits two mysterious "muscle" to blast his way into the installation. I have a feeling we will be getting more of them in the coming issues, especially after their dramatic introduction.

    Screenshot-4.png

Fans of Lobot, your time has come. Not only do we discover that Lando and Lobot are partners in crime, we learn how Lobot came to be and what exactly his "enhancement" does. There is no way I am going to spoil that here so you will have to pick up the issue.

Another shocker about Lobot: he talks! He actually converses with Lando and is rather eloquent while being gruff at the same time. I said "Holy blast" out loud when I saw a dialogue bubble attached to his mouth.

    Screenshot-5.png

By the end of the issue we learn that the ship Lando stole is likely much more than a luxury vessel. The unfortunate Imperial commander of the installation travels to Coruscant to explain to a VIP he lost the ship. You'll know the VIP I speak of when you see him.

Really solid issue and I have high hopes for the series. This issue is well worth the price. The art by Alex Maleev is a departure from the other books, as Maleev's style is very distinctive. I have to say the art in this book is my favorite of the Star Wars books so far.

Get down to your local shop today and treat yourself right. It's a great way to get excited about everything coming up with SDCC this weekend.

This issue made me laugh out loud when I read the last two frames. Lando is in deep pooduu...

BTW, I agree with the review. This is a must have issue, because of a interesting story, excellent art, and fun characters.

I like how each new comic has a different scroll to match the character. Lobot was so much fun - like a long-suffering uncle with a wayward kid. "I'm not a mark. Lose the grin." made me laugh. And, oh, boy, are they in trouble...

Great start, but way too short. Too bad it's just 5 issues.

Interestingly enough, it was the last few frames that brought this issue down a few notches for me. Overall, it was an excellent start, but I always concerned when they start connecting high-profile characters that didn't have a connection in the films because it runs the risk of making the galaxy seem too small a place.

I would've much preferred that the ship Lando stole belong to Mas Amedda himself. It would've been a great way to learn more about a character we don't know much about.

    THIS!!

Once I learned it wasn't HIS ship, and it was a certain someones, I was a little let down. Plus, the ship is blue right? It would match! lol

I usually get the new SW issues day of so I'm a day late...but here we go... man, this issue was great! And I was able to pick up the movie variant cover also. Cool stuff...anyways... Lando is well done...I love the Ocean's 11 vibe we get from this one. And Lobot...who knew?! The only complaint I have is that I was let down as I mistakenly let my imagination run wild before the last couple of pages. When it said that the imperial they were stealing from was an art collector I was like, "Oh yes...it's happening...Thrawn baby!" And then it was the emperor which was a little deflating. But I can forgive that as my reaction was solely based on my fan-boy hopes and my misinterpreting a clue. Anyways, I'm looking forward to the next issue already. Much better than the Leia series.

    Wow. That was really good.
I LOVE the "Miami Vice" color palette. The whole thing reads like it's going to be some sort of Michael Mann potboiler. Love it!

I did not expect to like this comic, as Lando is far from my favorite SW character, but it has succeeded in making me like him more than I ever did in the movies or on Rebels. And Lobot speaks! I'm digging their friendship.

It looks great and reads great. My highest compliment: I look forward to the next one!

It def. captured the essence of Lando. You could feel his presence in his dialogue, his actions and even the likeness was pretty well captured by the artist!

Great review, as always. For me, this is shaping up to be a favorite. The pacing was nearly perfect, with the plan being described and carried out simultaneously, it added time to the comic in a few short pages. Something the Leia comic was (sadly) unable to pull off very well.

I find Leia book the weakest of the series, it's the only book I consider a filler. Others are pretty much solid entries into the SW unvierse.

I really like the Princess Leia miniseries, but this is just way more fun already. I mean, smooth talking his way out of trouble with a lady is SO LANDO. Plus, Lobot talking was weird at first, but I think we'll learn why he doesn't talk at all in ESB soon. Also, seeing Lando pretty succesful with mining in Rebels, but in great debt here, is very interesting. I wonder what happened?. As always, awesome review @Kyle!

Totally agree. My favourite moments were those with Lobot. He was real cool in this issue

So I didn't want to post an all new thread for this since it's just a small observation, but I thought it was cool enough to share with my fellow cantina comic readers. Along with the new SW comics, I have been getting into Marvel's Secret Wars event. I have really enjoyed a lot of these issues and I read one earlier that had an interesting little easter egg in it. Issue #1 of Guardians of Knowhere (A Guardians of the Galaxy Secret Wars tie-in) had a familiar creature design in one of the panels among a group of aliens. I don't know about you all, but to me the one in the upper right looks like it belongs in Jabba's palace. :)
