Master is both a rank and title. You become a Jedi Master by either raising a Jedi Padawan to Knighthood, or by gaining a seat on the Jedi Council early like Anakin. Only a Jedi Master can gain a seat on the Jedi High Council. Anakin only got onto the council because of Palpatine, and because of Anakin and Sheev's friendship, Windu prevented him from attaining the rank of Jedi Master.

An apprentice also calls their teacher Master.

thanks ~ that's helpful! i just assumed you had to be a master to have a padawan, i guess. all the other students were taught by masters in the PT, it seemed.

watched the Poggle mind-control worm episodes last night. holy cow that's some dark stuff with the worms and zombie things and Barriss.
anybody who saw this as a kid want to comment on it?

and Anakin ~ yikes. he's getting grim for sure. this storyline probably would have given me nightmares if i saw it as a kid.

Yeah, the "empty people" from Doctor Who scared me as a kid, and then the Vashta Nerada. I would have probably been terrified of this arc if younger .

I was in high school during this time so I wasn't exactly a "kid" but it did sort of creep me out .

I loved that episode but I guess would be disturbing for younger people. And I love how you can start seeing the darker side of Anakin more and more - I mean, we knew he was able to kill all the Tusken Raiders, but it was whiny Anakin, not this cool Jedi General lol.

if i had never seen the PT and was just watching this on a whim, he would be making me very uncomfortable right now (in a good way, not uncomfortable in an embarrassing way). especially for Ahsoka's sake; my mind would be reeling at:
1.) this guy being in charge of this sweet kid.
2.) hoping she would influence him to ease the eff up. hahaha

The most disturbing episode I remember is the entire Mortis arc...I watched it on shrooms in college and it tripped me out for days...not the shrooms but the arc lol

Just saw the one where Ahsoka is kidnapped by the Trandoshans to be hunted and then she gets back her freedom with the other younglings and Chewbacca. I got tears at the end when Ahsoka tells Anakin is thanks to his teachings she survived. And Anakin and Chewie almost there side by side. Guess I can't see the carbon freeze scene in ESB the same now lol.

hahaha ~ i just finished the second season. i thought it started off strong, but didn't like the Mortis arc and the whole thing with Chewbacca had my eyes rolling.
that said, i did like that moment with Ahsoka and Anakin because of everything we know that they don't know yet.

The creepiest episode to me is the one where Grievous attacks Dathomir because the witches are messing around with Dooku. Dude, there's an army of freaking dead nightsisters.

so i had a nice binge watch of the last two seasons over the last few days. thought i would share some final thoughts.
just want to say first, i ain't dissing anybody who likes this series. i found it to have some really good moments, but from the start it was never going to be my cuppa, if you know what i mean. i should also preface this by acknowledging my hellacious bias against the PT in general. hope you guys give me credit for trying to be open minded about this enough to actually watch it! hahaha

three major things i didn't like:
    • PT aesthetic overall--the worlds, the tech, the politics. episodes whose sole focus is on characters or concepts from the PT that i didn't really like: Mace, Jar Jar, random diverse padawans, droid adventures. some of this stuff i could get past, others made my eyes glaze over.
    • video game-style action: a lot of the action was just plotless fighting or obstacles without real consequence. much of it literally played out like a video game, and watching the Jedi jump around like fleas was agitating. gravity is a thing, people. even for Jedi. : o p
    • This did nothing to improve my opinion of Yoda, Mace, the Jedi in general, the stupidity of the droid army, or my discomfort with the treatment of the Force.
    three major things i loved:
    • new characters that actually worked! Ahsoka was neither obnoxious nor pandery and her storyline was tragic and interesting (enough so that i've picked up the book and am more or less convinced to watch Rebels now). Satine was awesome. I got very caught up in the storyline of Mandalore and her relationship with Obi-Wan (now i see the appeal of Rey Kenobi!). possibly these two are the best to come out of the whole show.
    • while i think the show still failed to address the moral problem of the clone army, it did treat the clones as people and touched on the problematic nature of their manufacture. some of the best stories were about the clones doing heroic things.
    • Padme and Anakin are treated like real people and show that they have real problems (not this weird manufactured romance we got in the PT). unfortunately the series ended with them on the outs so it feels like it never got resolved, but i really enjoyed their interactions--especially because you can see how creepy and possessive Anakin can be (and how Padme does not like it one bit).
    final thoughts:

the series doesn't "save" the PT for me, but i definitely appreciate that it was clearly a labor of love for the people who created it. they did a good job with the material they had to work with, and managed to fill in critical gaps in the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan, and make Anakin more of a hero and less of an insufferable whiner.
as previously mentioned, i'm willing now to watch Rebels and read the Ahsoka book--two things i had no intention of doing previously.
so even if i did have to suffer the occasional Jar Jar, i'd say it was totally worth it.

    Excellent!!!

I'm still going through Season 5 - just finished watching the younglings arc with Ahsoka and Hondo - and it is a little bittersweet since you got these new characters you get involved with and you know what it's coming for them.

And yeah, I mean, I'm not prequel hater but I was not into their characters as much as I am with the OT ones; however, TCW helped them to grow on me. And the new characters - Rex, Ahsoka, Asajj, Satine - are really endearing now.
