There is a theory about Rey, being the product of the cloning of Anakin or Luke Skywalker, at the following link: http://www.forcematerial.com/home/2...azil-might-hold-the-key-to-reys-true-identity

IMO, the theory is somewhat contradicted by the fact that in TFA Snoke and company didn't seem to be aware of the existence and power of Rey at first. Still, an interesting theory.

However, speculating about it some more, what if Rey is not a Skywalker clone but the daughter of a Skywalker clone? Created by Snoke, the clone would not be bounded by the Jedi code of not having a lover and not having children. There would have to be a rapid growth and aging process for the clone to be suitable to become a father just 10 years after ROTJ. Perhaps the clone rebelled against Snoke and was killed, but in the process Rey was left on Jakku by her father for her safety from Snoke.

Buried somewhere in the pages of this thread I put forth this theory. If Palpatine had cloned Luke around the time of his death. A cloned Luke could have been mature around the time of Rey's birth. Now, the issue here is that this takes a lot of explaining.

I don't think this will happen, but I do wonder if cloning is going to factor into the story. The idea that Snoke has raised the possibility of a "clone army" and it's mentioned in the film makes me wonder. Is that just a throwaway line? Or is that going to be a bigger part of the story going forward?

I think there has to be something about cloning in the story. That line seemed to be dropped in more than just as a threat to Hux's troopers. And for me, cloning seems such an ideal thing to do, especially for bad guys. I do wonder if they've been up to something.

As for this, its an interesting idea, but yeah I can't see them going with that.

Also, that cloning line is the type of thing that could have very easily been added after principle photography at Rian's suggestion.

    I like it.

Except make her a clone of Anakin. That's much more explainable, as he was in and out of Imperial facilities for 20 years.

The idea that the emperor had decided to make another clone army (he'd had one before) and use the genes of his greatest apprentice (who lost power and potential with his injuries) is not that far-fetched.

Plus, it would explain Jakku, the Imperial research facility there, and why Palps said it was so important in history.

He was planning to unleash a sith army of chosen ones...but the initial test case, Rey, was broken out during the battle of Jakku.

I could totally go for this. That way she can be "a Skywalker" so to speak, not make Luke a bad dad, and explains her power...

What provides the most tension between the characters of Rey and Luke? Perhaps driving her eventual temptation by the Dark Side?

Despite all of the creative suggestions that have been put forth in this thread, these are the ultimate questions to be answered in determining the relationship between Rey and Luke, if any. For me, the best answer is still a father who lost his daughter (whether by his own fault or not, we shall see) and becomes reunited with her after 15 or so years.

(Arguably Luke killing Rey's Imperial parents provides just as much, if not more, tension and temptation for Rey... but I don't like my Luke served up as a killer.)

the same for me and almost all facts/rumors about Luke are bad so far, this would give us the rest with Luke as a heartless killer to make Kylo look better.

This might be a stupid a question but wouldn't a clone of Anakin (or anyone else for that matter) look exactly like the original person? A clone by definition is genetically identical.

I ask because I keep seeing X is a clone of Y theories when X and Y are genetically different.
The answer to this question is purely subjective. There's an infinite number of ways to create tension between the two characters without choosing the most obvious answer.

With all due respect guys, but seriously? A clone? I´m not a Herman Hess or a Melville, but doesn´t this seems a lazy storytelling arc? And more: please guys, is something got leak that points in this direction or I´m truly missing something here?

No question its subjective... but no less important a question. This is also the beauty of Star Wars new and old: It allows us all to take from it what we want (or need).

How is a hypothetical scenario where Luke is forced to kill Rey's parents turn him into a "heartless killer?" There's a variety of different ways that could happen without Luke murdering people.
This is speculation based on the mention of a clone army in TFA.
Very true. Also, Rey and Luke from my perspective is a boring retread of the last trilogy. It's far too predictable. Plus, it makes the universe smaller. However, that's what many people want.

I wouldn't ever see Luke as a "heartless killer." However, I do believe that his growth from ANH through the end of ROTJ resulted in a character at the end who would have hesitated greatly before taking anyone's life. Granted, at the beginning of ROTJ, he was choking Gamorrean guards and knocking off all of Jabba the Hutt's loved ones... ;) But by the end of the OT, I think he had learned the same lessons that I think Yoda had learned: "Wars not make one great." Yoda and OB1 likely regretted the violent path that the Jedi took. "A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, never attack."

In fact, I would think that Luke would only kill Rey's Imperial parents if they were directly attacking him. In which case, that diminishes any conflict Rey could feel (toward Luke) about such a prior event. Again, all of this is why I would rather not have this be the genesis of what I perceive to be necessary conflict between Luke and Rey. My two cents.

I understand these criticisms, but it is all in the execution. So far, TPTB have proved quite adept at giving us some complex and fascinating characters. Here's to hoping they can do the same with the story, also making it familiar, yet entirely unique.

The line is meant to be a subtle reference back to the Clone Wars as well as a jab at Hux and his troops

I agree and I also don't want to see a scenario in which Luke killed Rey's parents for whatever reasons.
In case they want to make such a conflict between Luke and Rey, so they can easily create a scenario in which Luke is indirectly responsible for the death of Rey's parents like he decided not to interfere etc. But if Luke is the heartless killer, I'm out!!!

But wouldn't you also agree that there needs to be some sort of conflict between Luke and Rey in order to stoke her potential temptation by the dark side?

Just remember Luke's disdain with OB1 when he gave him the "From a certain point of view?" (Everybody quotes that OB1 line like it is gospel, but the arguable reality is it demonstrated just how deceitful the Jedi could be, just as Anakin believed...) In any event, we were led to believe throughout ROTJ that Luke could turn to the dark side, and I believe it was in part because of the "untruths" he had been told about his heritage... just like Kylo Ren. And probably just like Rey.
