What shots (OT, PT, or even new stuff) do you think haven't aged well over time?

    Personally, here's mine:
The pit that Palpatine is thrown into (spoilers!) I know a lot of the stuff in the OT was practical effects and even more was painted, but this particular background just sticks out to me as looking especially drawn. One of my favorite scenes in the franchise, still, but maybe that's why I'm so analytical of it.

Good lord, the background in this scene is awful. Not only is it extremely obvious CGI... but it's not even that necessary. I understand that we needed CGI for the lava planet factory lightsaber arena on Mustafar, but this is basically just a big room. We could've either found an actual big room, or simply settled for a smaller room. What there is, instead, is just a jarring reminder of how far we've come since the mid 2000's.

Another contender goes to Rogue One's opening shot. Even now knowing that I'm supposed to be looking at the rings of Lah'mu, it just really feels disorienting and out of place.

Not to end things on a negative note, here's one of my favorite shots of the series:
Not even my favorite saber fight, but the smoke and the silhouettes is so dang atmospheric.

    Spoilers for Rogue One:
Another shot from Rogue One is a strong contender- the Death Star appearing above Scarif. It just appears so silently among the clouds and looks rather peaceful, but you know what horrors it's capable of.

So, what are your least favorite shots in the series? I'd love to see them. And, of course, feel free to share your favorites too, so as to not make this thread too negative. Thanks!

Speeder bike chase in ROTJ. It's an awesome concept and I remember it being so remarkable when I was kid. Seeing it now though, the green screen effect is painful to watch. Definitely hasn't aged well.

I might've been (*deinitely was) a little tipsy (*disturbingly hammered) on my last viewing of that. I'll have to watch it again.

I do remember it as one of my favorite scenes in the OT as a kid as well.

Above all others this one takes the cake for me. Bothers me for numerous reasons, but most of all because of how it looks...

I hate this scene so incredibly much. Jabba is supposed to be a big time gangster like Al Capone. Can you imagine some punk rumrunner casually stepping on Al Capone’s foot, right in front of his crew?! You’d get your head opened up with a baseball bat and tossed into the street like garbage. It makes Jabba look like a puss, ruins the pace of the movie, provides nothing we didn’t already gather from Greedo, looks like crap, AND ends with Boba Fett looking straight into the damn camera!!! AAHHH!!!

OK. I’ve been wanting to get that off my chest for a little while now. Don't mind me.

In the one below, you can tell it's a dummy...

Palpatine's random leap off the console...

Here, it's painfully obvious that the Millennium falcon is a miniature. The sense of scale and detail, especially after Rogue One, feels off.

Exactly my reasons for disliking it. Couldn't have said it better myself. :D

Ooh, those two are pretty rough. I definitely cringe a little when I see the first one- not only because it looks so fake, but because it looks so much more damaging than it ends up being. Like, Obi Wan should need some serious chiropractic therapy after that one, but he's up on his feet and running around 3 minutes later.

The leap stands out a lot too- though, I guess it's pretty impressive what they were able to accomplish with McDiarmid, considering his age. A lot of people complain about the fight with Windu and the Jedi, but it was either slower fight scenes or over the top CGI- both choices very much derided by fans. They were between a rock and a hard place.

Yeah, these were shots that looked wonky when they were brand new. Not necessarily victims of age.

I think of two shots from the same film that are terrible in their own way.

Nobody likes Jedi Rocks and I am no different, but you know I also don't Lapti Nek scene, not the song itself if you listen to the offical soundtrack it's actually good, but in the film it's horrible, not because it's a puppet but because it's a badly designed and poorly operated puppet. It is possible the worst practical effect in any of the Original films. By the way she moves and the mouth barely opening you can tell there's some strings moving that thing.

In a way I can see why George wanted to change this scene, but my oh my he did it wrong again. Okay so he decided to make her a CGI effect that's not so bad, but it's not even in good graphics and the character's face his shoved right into the screen. Honestly that character appeared in the Clone Wars animated series and she looks much better in that than she did in episode VI. Both shots in this one scene are both unbearable for me. I'm willing to bet that if this scene would be re-animated and polished it would look better, though I don't encourage it.

The Emperor's Super Star Destroyer crashing into the second Death Star in ROJ.

Now, THAT would have been something George Lucas could or should have altered for the Special Edition. ;)

You're right that this probably tops it for the ANH 'aged scenes', but I'm not really a fan of any of the Tatooine changes from the Special Editions... this unnecessarily comedy dinosaur thing is pretty poor too. If anything the CGI enhancements have added to the ageing of these scenes more than the original footage.

Most of the stuff that hasn't aged well is from the prequels if you ask me. Most of the CGI has improved so much over the years and already looks dates after 10-15 years. Some of the additions to the original trilogy are starting to look pretty bad too.

Yeah cgi typically doubles in what it can do every couple of years...I think a scene that doesn't age well would be when Zam Wessel dies..

My choice would be a scene that isn't actually CGI, but it just always makes me laugh and is admittedly a bit of a nitpick.
It's in A New Hope, when Vader and Tarkin are in the briefing room and Vader is speaking to Tarkin, he then finishes his sentence, yet continues to move and makes this strange triumphant hand motion with Tarkin just staring at him in silence.

    Agreed.

To be honest, I liked a lot of these scenes as a kid. The Tatooine dinosaur thing posted above was something I specifically remember thinking was really cool- but on recent viewings, it just feels so out of place.
