the solution isn't "just don't visit the Cantina until you've seen everything".

spoilers happen all year round prior to releases--before anyone has seen the movie.

i'm not reading the Cantina for the most part right now because i don't want to hear about set things or leaked pictures or whatever for TLJ.
i am self-selecting not to participate in the forums for the most part.

i'm also missing out on lots of cool non-spoiler stuff as a result (i almost missed this thread).
i accept responsibility for that, but if there's a way to corral spoilertalk to a forum or a blocked out style that keeps things tidy, it would be nice.

but i also accept that this is an almost impossible problem to solve. because people spoil stuff unconsciously all over the place and there's just no avoiding it.

    Final bump for posterity's sake.

We all really appreciate everyone's input in this thread and want to make sure as many people as possible have a chance to contribute. I'll give it a few more days and shut it down.

    Thanks again!

TV shows I think, during the mid season break the first half of the season should be open to discussion. Well, people may wait and binge watch the entire season.
Books and comics is harder as people may wait for the volumes or the paperback editions. 2 months for the books and for comics when the next issue comes out then you can openly talk about the previous one.
But for the films as they are released at different dates around the world, I think it should be three weeks from the final film release date. As well, the main Star Wars is the films so honestly I would say 2 weeks.
If by the end of the amount of time maybe include the spoiler tags in profile posts.

Trying to avoid spoilers which were released months BEFORE the film releases shouldn't be a problem as there are posts for that content. Therefore there is no trying.

i still think that, if youre in a forum, spoilers are always going to be there and you take that risk...but speaking of that risk at the same time, i still feel the hovering option as a warning of sorts would work better so they know what theyre getting into before clicking on a thread entirely regardless of the spoiler title

Just to ad lib. Personally if I ever make a post (here or anywhere) and there's a spoiler in my post I'm VERY clear to point that out prior to the information. Just hate spoilers so much *shakes fist*

Anyway as far as TV shows I don't/can't/won't have an opinion on that; I'm just busy don't watch much TV. But I agree with AstromechRecords.

I think everything is fine the way it is. The mods should continue to be diligent about posts being marked properly, but people have such different definitions of what constitutes a "spoiler,"

Different TV ads are shown in different areas and at different times. Posting a freeze frame from one could be the same as spoiling the moxie. Let's all continue to err on the side of marking spoilers but keep the current format
