After ANOTHER long hiatus, Star Wars: Rebels is back and it's with a MIGHTY vengeance. I only mean that in the best way possible. There are some MAJOR happenings in this episode and I will try and keep the spoilers in my review to a MINIMUM. Let's just jump into it!!!!!!

    2.jpg

    SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What worked for me:

    - Sabine's fate revealed and ramifications of it:
    8.png

Sabine has been this series' most under-utilized character from my (certain) point of view. It's taken two-and-a-half seasons for her to shine to her full potential, but "Legacy of Mandalore" gives us the Sabine Wren we all have been waiting to see. We see a strong character struggling of coming to terms with her past and the family that distrusts her. The ending of this episode is both satisfying and heartbreaking, which I never thought I would say regarding Sabine's character. It's a damn shame that it took this long to tell Sabine's backstory and get to this point, but it's safe to say that I am now 100% all-in regarding Sabine Wren.

    - Ursa Wren
    9.jpg

This hard-nosed Mandalorian is both cold blooded and still has a soft spot for her family. The character of Ursa was a surprising aspect for me. She has all the Mando characteristics of being a total badass, and though she does come to Sabine's rescue, she also holds to Mandalorian customs in the end. Though that's...kind of brutal, to be honest...I also love that she is devoted to her way of life. I really hope this is not the last we see of her.

    - All the different Mandalorian armor on screen. *heart eyes*
    4.png

I know it's cool to hate on Boba Fett these days, but I grew up in the age of where Boba Fett was the coolest character according to all of my peers and me. I couldn't get enough info about him. When I found that there was an entire planet of people in armor like his, I lost my mind. Thanks to Clone Wars and Rebels, I have gotten to see different versions of that armor on screen. Even better when you get to see them all in action on screen too.

    - The end battle and the fallout
    3.png

For the record, The Clone Wars episode "The Lawless" is my benchmark for how great ANY animation show can be. It just happens to have an amazing lightsaber duel and Mandalorian battle. This episode isn't quite to that level, but by golly it's not that far either. This end battle might be in the top 5 for Rebels moments and it's for good reason. Tons of great Mando action and BIG revelations at the end. One revelation that the show gave us (or...I think they gave us) is the answer to why we don't see Mandalorians fighting alongside the Rebel Alliance in the OT. Maybe this answer was obvious and I just missed it, but I thought it made a ton of sense anyway.

    What didn't work for me:

Absolutely nothing....Well...maybe the fact that someone is named Tristan and the name was a little too modern for me at first, but I got over it and I'm fine with it now.

    Quick hitters:

    - Need a toy of it.

    Need a playset of it.

"Legacy of Mandalore" follows up the amazing "Trials of the Darksaber" with zero drop off. I am beyond intrigued as to where our Ghost Crew goes from here. What are the ramifications? What other stories are going to be told now? I haven't been this intrigued by a Rebels episode in a LONG time. Season 3 is killing it and I think it seems to be only getting better.

As always I look forward to reading what you all have to say regarding this episode! :)

Pure speculation based on the fact that Katee Sackhoff recorded episodes for Season 4, Bo Katan will be the new leader of Mandalore.

I loved the entire look of the episode - the scenery, the architecture, the armor, the fight. The episode also made sure that Sabine's arc will continue into the next season.

I liked the final moment between Kanan (and Ezra) and Sabine. And I agree, it is satisfying that Sabine is retaking her place with her people, but the fact that she's leaving the Ghost crew? All the feels. I suspect that season 5 will be the last, but we already see our crew changing. If my predictions are right, season 4 will continue with Thrawn as the main villain, the rebels will have to find a new home (Dantooine?) and get rid of him somehow, season 5 will lead to the Battle of Scarif. I can see many heartbreaking moments in our future. AND SO MUCH AWESOME TOO.

This season is shaping up to be the best so far.

Tristan as a name is 100s of years old and ties into Celtic lore nicely. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tristan_and_Iseult

    Great episode! Hands down.

The final battle was terrific. Sabine using Ezra's lightsaber and earning a rightful claim to the darksaber by beating her opponent. She had an Anakin-Dooku moment when she put the sabers in an X position against the governor's neck. Deep inside, most of us might have wished she followed through, but it's a kid's show and she's the good girl. But could't they have at least allowed Sabine chop him off one or two limbs? At least mom came to her rescue at the end.

And know that we know more about Sabine's parents (Ursa Wren and an unnamed captain who is still alive in Mandalore) we can finally ruled out the Sabine Kenobi theory. I was hoping for her mom to be Bo Katan, and eventually be revealed as an adoptive mother. However, Ursa has a lot more physical resemblance. Sorry, Sabine, you ain't a Kenobi.

I like the ending. However, the rebellion lost two key members. I'm sure we have not seen the last of them.

I loved this episode. I never thought I'd see Emperor's Hands again. Although they really only share a name with the old EU title.

I kinda wish Tiya hadn't spoiled this episode at Celebration 2 years ago.

Rebels recon says that mandalorians live on 1000 or so planets. I never knew they'd be such a huge force. This would make them a much more significant force than the rebellion. I wonder if they eventually join the new republic.

This was a great episode. I really liked the design of the planet, and Castle Wren as it's a nice change from what we usually see in Rebels; desert, ships, etc. The battle at the end was great and I did like the ROTS homage between Sabine and Gar Saxon. Finally, I really liked Ursa Wren, she was tough, strong, and rigid to her beliefs, but also a concerned and loving mother to her family and clan. I'm also sad to Sabine and Fenn Rau leave the team, but I think it's appropriate for them to do so and I'm certain we will see them again soon.

I am going to be interested to see how the Ghost Crew, especially Ezra, deal with Sabine's departure. Also the fallout on Mandalore after Gar Saxon's death should be interesting as well, although I'm guessing Bo Katan is going to be involved since we know Katee Sackhoff did some recording for Rebels season 4. Overall, it was a great episode and I am glad we don't have anymore breaks between episodes for the rest of this season of Rebels.

Star Wars Explained has a couple of good speculations, one of which agrees with my own, but the second one (about the last episodes) is more interesting:

Sabine used a saber and fought like a prequel era Jedi which is why it made me think she's FS

Perhaps she fought like a prequel-era Jedi, because she was trained by a prequel-era Jedi (i.e., Kanan). In Season 1, the Grand Inquisitor even makes fun of Kanan for having a rather predictable fighting style. However, the choice of music during the fight between Sabine and Gar Saxon was ... interesting.

I would not be surprised if we see Sabine in the last episode of the season, when "Trapped on Atollon with the rebel base under siege, Hera and Kanan fight to keep the squadron alive, as Ezra attempts to rally help from an unexpected source." At first, I thought that the unexpected source referred to Maul, the Bendu or even Hondo Ohnaka, but now I think it might refer to Sabine.

I got attached to Rebels so seeing Sabine not going back with Kanan/Ezra hurt. With Dave Filoni putting that family first in the rebels crew and that the crew only has each other and when Sabine said they are family just hurt when she decided that she needs to stay. I thought they should of had more emotion with Ezra tho. for all the times he was there for/with Sabine it was just a simple goodbye, see you later emotion. The episode itself was a safe episode. they should of made it a 2 part episode cause it was just a continuation from trials. I guess now we will see Sabine towards the end of season 3.

I know we are not gonna get a deep dark story like the actual SW films but Rebels is a safer series than TCW(due to Disney) i hope to see a major loss with the rebels crew and a deeper individual storyline with the crew. SW:R is the only storyline that is similar to the episodes. we get a jedi who is fighting to stay alive really and an apprentice in Ezra. so similar to Obi/Ani and Obi/Luke that Kanan/Ezra is a reflection and Kanan is keeping the meaning of a Jedi alive acting as an Obi/Yoda type now. I would llike to see at least 2 more seasons of Rebels.

Man, these last two episodes were awesome. Sabine's always been my favorite of the bunch. I've been a big fan of the Mandalorians at least as long as I've been a Star Wars fan and these episodes reminded me of an old fanfic I wrote years ago about an exiled Mandalorian. I never finished it, but I think I have to now. ;)

At least this episode squashed the theory that Sabine is the product of Obi-Wan.
