When Disney bought Star Wars one of the first things they would have discussed in their board meetings is the problem of having a huge chunk of your customers disliking half of your product. The only real course of action open to them to resolve this issue was to offer those customers an alternative, that's what I think these "stand alone movies"(probably called that so as not to alienate Prequel fans) really are, they're alternative prequels.

I think it's why the latest movie was largely marketed without it's episode number, I think Disney will also bring out despecialised editions of the OT without episode numbers i.e. Star Wars A New Hope etc, eventually there will be nine movies available without episode numbers in the title. Six will be called Star Wars something something and three will be called something something A Star Wars Story. Of course there will still be alternative editions with the episode numbers.

I think it's also why this first movie is full of stuff that was beloved in the OT - gritty settings and characters - the rebels, X-Wings, AT-ATs, the Death Star, Darth Vader etc. The same is true of the second movie, in it being about Han Solo. No doubt Chewbacca and the Millennium Falcon will be in it too and probably Lando and Boba Fett, all beloved aspects of the OT.

So, with all that in mind, the third movie being about Obi Wan makes a lot of sense, not just for ALL fans, but it would be perfectly suited to Disney's purposes as well. Ask most of those who hated the PT to name something about those movies they liked and a lot of them will mention Ewan McGregor's Obi Wan.

I reckon a movie with his Obi Wan, in the OT role of watching over Luke, would be perfect as a unifying force in fandom. Having Yoda in it and maybe a cameo of a force ghost Qui Gon(a nod to PT fans, like Jimmy Smits in RO) and another Jedi(maybe Kanan) who could be killed by Vader or the Emperor - a way to bring in one or both of those characters without upsetting continuity - would be pretty cool also.

Saw this compilation of Obi-Wan and definitely, even if they're still including certain elements of Kenobi's story in the ST, they have to do a Obi-Wan spin-off. Seeing this got me all hyped!!

I have this feeling for the Obi Wan spinoff that might sound cliche but it plays like a western where he is still on Tatooine but travels to a remote space that needs saving and he is the stranger that needs to save them. I think that would be amazing to see and maybe if Rey is his "granddaughter" we can see how he meets the grandmother in some way. Just a thought

With the time elapsed since Episode III, Ewen Mac would be the perfect age to play a pre-Episode IV Obi-Wan. I like the idea of a sort of western feel action film on Tatooine, which would then add to the saga as Rogue One seems to be a Mission Impossible/Oceans 11 type of film. They all can't be about blowing up Death Stars ! !

Since seeing Rogue One, and last night watching ANH again, I defnitely believe there's more to be told between Obi Wan and Owen Lars, even possibly a young Luke as he is definitely familiar with Ben in ANH.

Kenobi and Lars clearly know each other - from dialogue you can tell they have had some major differences of opinion over Luke. I'd like to see what lead to that.

We also know that Kenobi is familiar with the Mos Eisley cantina, and the characters within, and surely any standalone story is worth exploring there.

Most of all, there is an opportunity here to get two major stars (Ewan and Joel Edgerton) into an adventure movie - with Owen potentially cautious but I get the sense he could be pretty powerful - even old in ANH he was not a small guy!

Based on his reaction to them dying, there was a clear rivalry.

I hope they do an Obi-wan movie. We need to know how this happened in only 19 years

Two suns and rough coarse sand getting everywhere will do that.

Wonder if they would consider a time travel story where OB1 travels on a mission in time, where he would age but when he returned to his own time, everyone else did not. This would help explain the aging issue.

They've never gone the time travel route.
I wonder if they won't just say it has to do with how he learned to turn himself into a force ghost. Maybe it takes so much life energy, it ages you...

JK Rowling played with time travel in Prisoner of Azkaban and Cursed Child. It leaves giant gaping plot holes then requires even MORE Pablo Hidalgo tweets explaining it to everyone.

Just look at how in depth people go on the difference with the whole Vader Tantive IV "multiple signals beamed..." etc

Yeah, if Ewan McGregor does another Obi Wan movie, they should try to make it a year or two after ROTS. He still looks a whole lot like mid 2000s Ewan that he does 1970s Alec.

They could set the story at least a decade after ROTS.

In my opinion, this would be best served as being a deeper dive into the legend of the Force and the shamans/priestesses.

I can see that being an easy explanation as to why Kenobi can't remember 3PO or R2. I imagine his mind went through a lot in training to become a Force Ghost.

And, in my opinion: he can't leave Tatooine. Make it him protecting Luke indirectly (crazy herd of Tusken Raiders) and focusing on his Force training. Great to fit in Jinn and Yoda too!

I honestly think an Obi-Wan movie is going to be announced either this SW celebration to give us more to speculate about...or next years as not to take away from the Solo spinoff...which I can take or leave if I'm honest...I hope its good but I'm not a fan of all this re-casting.
