So what do you guys think would be the top 3 most iconic ships from the OT? Like if people saw the ship, they would instantly know that its from the Original Trilogy of Star Wars.

I think it would be hands down the Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, and Star Destroyer. Notable mentions would be of course, the TIE Fighter & Y-Wing

    TIE Fighter, X-Wing, Millenium Falcon.

While the Star Destroyer had a better entrance in ANH, everyone remembers the TIEs more because of their engine noise.

Iconic: Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, TIE fighter/Vader's TIE "THAT wing style kind of ship."

Honorable Mention: Slave-I, Imperial Shuttle, B-Wing. However a lot ppl I know don't remember the B-Wing.

I think, as people have suggested and will continue to suggest, the main three iconic ones that just scream STAR WARS have got to be the Falcon, T-fighter & X-wing.

Not including those three, my the most iconic runners up have got to be Tantive IV....Star Destroyer....and joint third Snow Speeder / Slave 1?

    Lets be honest...They're all badass.

My personal favorite, because of the difficulty in creating the concept, is the TIE. George asked for something alien and intimidating, yet small enough for a single pilot. Unlike most of the other ships, it took several major changes to get the TIE's right. The way we were able to get them to "swam" still sends chills down my spine.

The X-wing on the other hand was almost movie ready from day one. You can see my first concept drawing on my website http://www.cantwell.space

The Falcon was a special case, as we had to change it completely near the end of the design process due to another movie using a similarly styled ship.

^^ ...so I have to follow that act? Talk about pressure. :D

The X-Wing and TIE fighter are, and probably always will be, my top 2. (x-wing)(tie)
Star Destroyers would be a close third. (star destroyer)

I'm going to throw a wildcard in for most memorable, and that is the Sandcrawler on Tatooine. I can't even say why really, but as a kid seeing that huge, lumbering thing out in the middle of the desert always just fascinated me.

    For me personally
    The Executor, The Falcon,
(created my own Lego version 10 years before Lego Company themselves) and Luke's X-Wing.

Objectively maybe the TIE-Fighters, the X-Wings and the Falcon.

Oldbert, thanks, great to see a grizzled Cantina veteran like yourself welcome a newbie like me. My boys and I are very big fans of Y-Wings so of course we went wild when we saw Dutch Vander as Gold Leader in R1!! We were yelling in the theater at that point! As a WWII historian I have done a lot of reading about battles and aircraft , in my mind the Y-WIngs are equivalent to Hawker Hurricanes and X-wings are the Spitfires in the Battle of Britain. The Spitfires/X-wings get all the glory while the Hurricanes/Y-wings are the workhorses....hey, how do you "Like" a post by someone else?

You need to get to 30 posts before being able to "rate" other posts. The restriction was mostly put in place to dissuade trolls in making a new account and going off on a downvote rampage. I believe there was incident regarding that sometime in mid-2015, but as I was a lurker way back then, I'm not sure if I got the proper context.

Welcome to the Cantina, by the way! It's nice to see a veteran (literally, as it were) like you join and engage with us youngsters who grew up in the VHS time period or something closer to present time. I can honestly say that I haven't been in a community as respectful and involved as the one on these boards, so in terms of choosing which Star Wars community to tether to - you've picked the best choice, by far.

Alamact, LOL! Yes I grew up in the medieval "VHS" era....also at the same time known as the "8-track" era. Loved to listen to ABBA on 8-track! I know our younger members here think I am speaking an alien language - may need 3PO to translate. Anyway, thanks for the nice welcome, this looks to be an outstanding place to hang out and talk SW!!

That's what I'd say as well. Or if somebody wanted to classify the Death Star as something else then I'd say TIE Fighter for an alternate.

Well it does fly through space. But like I said, if people don't consider it a spacecraft then I have TIE Fighter as alternate.
