Modern Family (stylized as modern family) is an American television mockumentary that premiered on ABC on September 23, 2009, which follows the lives of Jay Pritchett and his family, all of whom live in suburban Los Angeles. Pritchett's family includes his second wife, his stepson, as well as his two adult children and their spouses and children.

Modern Family premiered to positive reviews from critics, with reception getting more mixed as the series progressed. The show won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in each of its first five years and the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series four times, twice for Eric Stonestreet and twice for Ty Burrell, as well as the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series twice for Julie Bowen. It has so far won a total of 22 Emmy awards from 75 nominations. It also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2011 (source of information from top: Wikipedia).

This entertaining modern show has effectively taken the place of yesterday's community values entertainment TV shows such as Friends, Sex and the City, and Everybody Loves Raymond, and falls under the category of culture-centric American TV shows such as The Wonder Years, Growing Pains, and My Two Dads.

    Modern Family
is a nice weeknight entertainment experience for suburban families looking for values-focused presentations instead of fireworks-loaded mainstream danger-themed TV programs such as Survivor, Desperate Housewives, and CSI: Miami.

I'm a big fan of the actress Julie Bowen, and her award-winning work on Modern Family highlights a cultural interest in everyday domestic intrigue and perhaps a distinctly American pedestrian investment in community relevant programming marketed to a wide, multi-cultural audience.

In fact, Bowen's subtle human range speaks to a personality-approach to 'American sociology' in pop media, which is why she could use the success of Modern Family to land an appealing values-exploratory film role, perhaps in a Green Arrow (DC Comics) adapted film perhaps starring Leo DiCaprio as the comic book superhero (and Bowen as his love interest Felicity Smoak). This is realistic, since Arrow (The CW) has become a culturally favored TV show in its own right.

In some ways, Julie Bowen is the new Justine Bateman.

I personally think Modern Family is superior to similar programs such as King of Queens, Second Chance, and Valerie's Family.

The show is pretty good. I stopped after finishing season 4 and I dont know how good is the show now. I started to watch it because of Ed O'neill, I was a big fan of Married With Children.

While I've seen Modern Family a number of times and it can be enjoyable, the above quoted text is just so wrong on so many levels.

Why, friend? You're not a fan of Stephen Amell?

Stephen Amell would be a great nerd (in a re-make of WarGames or Real Genius).

I agree with you about Modern Family comments, though. I'm a huge fan of Julie Bowen (Claire), and I want to see her in some comics-adapted Hollywood (USA) film. Perhaps as Felicia Hardy (Black Cat), nemesis of Spider-Man (Marvel Comics).

It's a good show and very well-written but I feel that it's having a hard time with being LOL funny like before lately but I think it's mainly do to the kids growing up especially with the episode where the redhead kid fails at wrestling and Lily gets lice...it all felt overly acted

    A Game

The only competitor of MF (IMO) is The Big Bang Theory (TBBT). They occupy similar time-slots in multiple time-zones and they offer a similar 'home-based entertainment' presentation.

So here's a 'game' I devised (since I've already chattered about Julie Bowen playing a love-interest in a comic book film --- perhaps with Stephen Amell!) involving Bowen's character from MF, Claire, and Kunal Nayyar's sensitive-nerd character, Raj Koothrappali, from TBBT competing to see who should be in a new movie about Leatherface (the fictional chainsaw-wielding cannibal from the iconic Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror film franchise).

Incidentally(!), I think Claire (Bowen) and Gloria (Vergara) should explore a lesbian storyline on MF --- they already share a great deal of personal advice and shared drama on the show...

    Would that be heresy?

RAJ: I'm a scholar from CalTech!
CLAIRE: I'm a wiz at hospitality management and a great host for Halloween!
RAJ: No way, Leatherface would hang you on his hook...
CLAIRE: Really? I think Leatherface would put you in his freezer...for a late-night snack.
RAJ: Perhaps. Are you up to the challenge, Claire?
CLAIRE: Raj, I know scary movies. I'm a big fan of Halloween (John Carpenter).
RAJ: Well, you can't run as fast as I can.
CLAIRE: Hey, I'm into jogging. You're too *nerdy* Raj.
RAJ: I may be nerdy, but you're the typical Leatherface victim (blonde-ambition).
CLAIRE: I think it's high-time Leatherface murdered an Asian-American like you.
RAJ: I propose only one of us shows up to the film audition --- the one who wins a game of checkers.
    CLAIRE: I adore checkers.
    RAJ: We'll see...
    CLAIRE: Brains vs. Beauty, no?
