I don't bother with either and prefer to form my own judgment.

That problem is incredibly prevalent with IMDB. Just saying.

Uhm, yeah I didn't say otherwise... What I meant to say is that imo IMDB is overall better than RT with audience scores, but both (and all mainstream review site) are infected with distorted troll ratings nowadays (but IMDB still has a much bigger voter base, thus you get a better average in the end). So, I still prefer the RT critic's score, which is at least relatively free from those.
I knew someone would bring up this mantra...

Very obviously everyone makes his/her own judgement in the end. But unlike you (who only seems to watch blockbusters and the Star Wars prequels over and over again) I watch a lot of movies and read a lot of books, and not all of them worth the time. These scores are really helpful on determining what's worth watching. For example I wouldn't have watched Whiplash on my own without the raving critical reception and thus I would've missed one of the best movies I've seen in years.
Plus, there are some critics who can give us educational insider insight. RedLetterMedia for instance from the mainstream ones, since they are filmmakers themselves and know what are they talking about. Folding Ideas fom youtube is also worth mentioning, as he's really into editing, etc.

The biggest thing I've gained from RT is being able to see many critics who seem to have similar tastes as I do so when it comes to smaller flicks (such as Whiplash) and I can easily check their review of it and decide if it's for me or not.

For big movies, I don't care about critic responses. You'll see enough trailers and other promos to decide. And for comic book movies, Star Wars and other huge IPs, I'll probably see regardless of critics.

    No.

The prequels, for what they are, are the very intimate vision of Star Wars' creator. Yes they have massive faults, but I'd rather have that vision than something else.

I like Rian Johnson's opinion on the matter. "The prequels are a seven hour long kids movie about how fear of loss turns good people into fascists."

Everyone always forgets to remember they are kids movies.

Anakin and Padme's cringe worthy dialogue reminds of you of angsty teenagers in a Twilight type romance? Good! That's the type of love they had!

Absolutely NOT, that would be insane. They're severely flawed, but many fans do love them. Why insult both them and George Lucas?

    Look at this question:
Do you think Disney should remake the original trilogy?

It's outrageous, isn't it? Many fans grew up with them. Well just as many fans grew up with the prequels.

But it all will be remade eventually. So it isn't that outrageous.

    Time. History.

Everything will get remade. Eventually there will be a remake of the OT, PT, ST, OPP.

I guess that's possible. If the franchise goes on long enough to witness a complete transformation of cinema that causes the first movies to become unwatchable as part of a series. Otherwise I don't know why anyone would get the idea to remake the OT. The acting is decent, the special effects hold on well enough, they're good movies as they are. Also, some fans might attempt to assassinate whoever comes up with this idea. So the only way I see it happening is 100 years from now, when all of us are gone and SW has reached Episode 50. With enough movies in the franchise, fans might accept remakes of the first ones (provided that they're good movies). And only if they become unwatchable by 2120 standards. I don't know, maybe movies will be in 3D hologram "format" then and the footage would be difficult to convert. That kind of reason.

Why would anyone remake Ben Hur?

    Because it's what Hollywood does.

I see your point. Occasionally, people who lack logic/common sense/contact with reality but have a lot of money on their hands take a chance....at becoming hated by fans. It works every single time.

You might want to use a different example, because the great 1959 film Ben Hur, was itself a remake.

I should have read further back in the thread to understand the point you were trying to make. As far as remaking the prequels. No. Star Wars is different in the sense it is a continuing saga... no reason to remake the prequels. I agree some remakes are unnecessary and pointless, but I think there are examples of great films that are remakes, so I always keep an open mind about it.

NO.... but I do believe that they will be remade in 2050. By that time the VFX will have improved considerably. They re-made the Wizard of Oz with MJ, also anything is possible. But for the near future, no.

Yep. If it can be remade, it will be remade.
