    Probably not...
    But yeah, there are two movies. Though both are very much kids movies (as opposed to movies that kids can enjoy) though I believe one is actually pretty dark.

    The second Ewok movie was kind of dark for a little kids movie. That girl's entire family gets slaughtered in the first 10 minutes. I still watch them on rare occasions. They weren't really all that bad. It shows how awesome Ewoks were. And really it wasn't all that cutesy.

    I agree about a lot of it. I never minded ewoks, but to be fair I was 6 when it came out, but I still don't mind them. Jake Lloyd was very young and I think he did a decent job with what he was given. Do people expect an 8 year old al pacino? They're setting themselves up for disappointment. The dialogue, especially midi chlorian talk was a much bigger problem. TPM on its own isn't terrible, but we all have very high standards for star wars. It's better than the horribly predictable marvel movies saturating the market and those don't get slammed... because they're not star wars and we expect garbage or mediocrity from the MCU. The prequel complaint I don't think is unfair is the forced inclusion of characters where it makes no sense. Anakin building c3po???? R2 being anakins Astromech? Yoda and chewbacca knowing each other that well? And the OT conflicting by no mention of these things. Chewie doesn't comment when Luke leaves to find yoda, the unfamiliarity with c3p0 and the planet he was made, other droid inconsistencies. I know, "memory erased" weak cop out. Obi wan didn't seem to recognize them either. Also, the forced inclusion of a young boba fett, and making his origin an unaltered clone. Very lame, takes away his badass image. Forcing greedo in as anakins friend (or peer, after the scuffle) . It's too big a galaxy to have all this stuff be coincidence.

    Absolutely. Some of Lucas's lines were so weird that even adult actors couldn't sell them. Giving a kid that young lines like "are you an angel" or simply "yippee" and expecting it to not come off as strange is a fault of the writing. Nobody could sell that.

    TLJ is playing now so I will pick some scenes that some fans are complaining that I loved:

    - Luke milking the sea creture;
    - Luke fishing;
    - Luke thinking of killing Ben in his sleeping.

    Agreed, I think the point of a lot of these scenes (and something the film goes out of its way to literally say) is that there's Luke and "The Legend", and they're not one and the same- Luke is still very human, and has his flaws and faults.

    Another scene:

    Snoke's death. Great twist, and honestly I think handles the "problem" (from a storytelling point) of Snoke pretty well. Now we don't need Snoke theories, because it doesn't really matter anyway.

    Also, I'd add Luke's fight. Some people really hate this, but I think that Luke not appearing in the flesh and fighting shows how much he's grown as a Jedi.

    In fact, this one scene kind of atones for the mistakes of the Jedi during the Clone Wars, when they were far too martial and warlike. Luke manages to be the spark of hope that the galaxy needs, humiliate Kylo Ren, and buy time for the Resistance to escape, all without any real-life violence. That's more of a pure Jedi than we've ever seen on film, by a long shot.

    I dislike The Empire Strikes Back for its attitude of undermining feminism; Rey has been given the proper treatment.
    A New Hope is also problematic, for appearing to glorify censorship

    I'm sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but could you go into a little more detail on what you're referring to?

    I'm not looking for a debate or anything, just genuinely curious! :)

    Empire has a way of slyly promoting female subservience to male patriarchy, which is why I much prefer the sequel trilogy. Leia and Han shouldn't have been brought back for Empire, but just Luke should have been brought back

    Huh, I can see I guess how Leia's portrayal might be interpreted as problematic, given how she eventually seems to give in to Han. Don't think I've ever heard anyone argue that they shouldn't have been brought in for Empire, though- that's a nice hot take!

    How about ANH? What do you mean about it promoting censorship?

    With ANH, it feels very nuanced. The tone is the innocence of repression - Owen oppresses Luke, and it's not treated as disgraceful. Vader oppresses the Imperial officers, and it's treated as badass. The Death Star blows up, and it's treated as glorious - though this is where the nuance kicks in, because the sequel trilogy and prequels obviously do similar things.

    Another example would be R2's treatment by the Jawas; it's debatable whether the movie makes fun of R2's predicament, and then there's also Luke's mistreatment in the cantina - the scene has to be regarded as humorous, which again supports the theory that the movie glorifies censorship

    Leia is abusive toward Han on the Death Star, and that's also meant to be funny

    Hmm, interesting takes, thanks for sharing!

    As a graduate of English, I definitely have heard critiques similar to this with other subjects, many times. Interesting to see it applied to Star Wars as well!
