Last Movie You Watched

Since I've pretty much seen every movie noteworthy enough to watch since the 90s, I started looking for rather lesser known, but highly rated movies.

A couple of those:

We need to talk about Kevin - Very well shot, masterfully directed (by a female director btw, now that Patty Jenkins brought up the topic again) drama with an Oscar worthy performance by Tilda Swinton. It's about the worst nightmare of every parent. Disturbing arthouse film about moral ambiguity, guilt, shame. Hard topic, and not for everyone.

Who Am I - Kein System ist sicher - An entertaining german drama/thriller about hackers with a good plot twist.

The Best Offer - Good mystery about an art expert, although the film painfully obviousy gives away the plot twist in advance.

The Gift - A solid psychological thriller, although I think the characters could've been developed better.

Dark City - This one is getting more attention recently, but nevertheless a good mystery/thriller. I disliked the ending though.

Kontroll - A hungarian drama/mystery masterpiece. Watch this one if you can. Dark, visually haunting, thought-provoking.
At the beginning it's about subway ticket inspectors and their daily struggle to do one of the most hated jobs in the world, but as the story progresses it begins to be about much more than just that... Masterfully directed with some good humour.

 

2001: A Space Odyssey. 10/10.

I watch a shitload of movies, it's my addiction so in a thread like this I just can't help myself but jot down my latest fix, so bare with me and my constant record. <3

Memento. 9.5/10. The reason Hollywood collectively stood up and took notice of Nolan. It's a near masterpiece.

 

The Devils' Rejects. 9.5/10.

Uhh...not simple to classify. A horror gem. Genius. Brutal. Hilarious. I'm trying to imagine the soft pillow I'd place it on.. but the colors are running.

 

The Blob (1988). 10/10.

Fun for the whole family..

 

Nicolas Cage 8mm

Very powerful movie with a mindblowing ending that makes you rethink how you see many things in life when it comes to judging just by what you see.

 

Dredd. (2012) 9.5/10.

What a crime this didn't make a ton of money at the B.O. It's seriously one of the best comic book movies ever made. Karl Urban made a perfect Dredd. Olivia Thirlby is such a cutie too.

 

Watched FREE FIRE today.
Solid flick. NICE GUYS lite with the 70's vibe and language.

Lacks the charm of a Shane Black piece but it is solid none the less.

 

Mad Max. 10/10
Mad Max: Road Warrior. 10/10
Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. 8.5/10.
Mad Max: Fury Road. 10/10.

A lot of awesome to take in ...especially in one day. I'm stockpiling gasoline and toilet paper.

 

The Diving Bell & The Butterfly. 10/10.

The Missing. 8.5/10.

 

Update:

Last I saw in the movie theatre: Wonder Woman. I cannot recommend it enough - I LOVED IT. I tried to keep my expectations low but I simply liked it a lot.

I've seen both and felt the exact same way about The Mummy - MAN that was a bad movie!

Go see WW, it'll wash that bad taste out of your mouth errr ..... uhmmmm .... eyes.

 

I've seen two and a half films since yesterday. First, Spirited Away. My first exposure to Studio Ghibli films and what an entry point it is. Beautifully animated, with gorgeous score and inspiring storyline I now understand why people love their films so much. Second, Cars 3. A solid comeback story with some great laughs. Definitely not one of Pixar's classics, but a good film regardless. Also, I've just finished watching Escape Plan with Arnie and Sylvester Stallone and I don't think I'm a member of a target demographic for that film...

It's Pat. 8.0/10.

One of the best films made about Julia Sweeney dodging a stalker since Pulp Fiction.

A brilliant comedy.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Good start, a so-so middle, and terrible ending. Ruined by the weak Ares God/Harry Potter Teacher character who I was constantly thinking was going to turn into a werewolf....

Oh, and why exactly was Wonder Woman in London during the 1914-18 World War 1 era when she was actually invented in the 1940's to motivate American women into factories for World War 2 US arms production?! It seems to me that London was used as a location to market and sell this character and franchise to a more wider global cinema audience, rather than concentrating WW purely in the US where she was created as a war propoganda icon.

 

Just saw KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD

what a godawful mess of a film.
Guy Ritchie just 'Guy Ritchied' all over it and it was damn near unbearable.

The concept is neat and I'm surprised how much I actually enjoyed the overall idea of it.

But the direction is a mess. Too much shaky cam. Too many dark action scenes. Let me actually see the action.
Too much exposition in Guy Ritchie style.

And the CGI...oooh boy. Felt like watching a PS2 cutscene at points.
