Chirrut Imwe was a very loved guy, but he sadly he died and luckily saved everyone so the question is
could Chirrut have been a major Character in the Star Wars Universe? What i think is that he could have been but may not have survived the original trilogy.

I think he's a pretty major character as it is.

Well considering he was shot up by stormtroopers, he isnt significant except prior to R1 and possibly the PT

    +1 billion

in the same way Obi-Wan was.
he died in the OT, but he was always a major character long before the PT and The Clone Wars ever developed him further.
heck, long before he even returned as a Force ghost in TESB.

I think he could've had some interesting reactions with Luke if he'd survived. He could be somewhat of a weak mentor figure to Luke in that Imwe clearly knows the Force pretty well, but Luke would quickly surpass him in wielding it.

Also, I don't recall getting Chirrut's opinion on the Jedi as a group. Perhaps he has a less than favorable opinion on them, and could've been the counter to Obi Wan and Yoda's more idealistic view of them.
