True. He wasn't like, "Where'd you get that?" and that implies it had already been retrieved from Cloud City as far as he knew.

 

right? he acts like it's something that was taken from him rather than as if it's something he hadn't found yet.

 

It has been said that Maz's power in the force helps her locate artifacts. I figured she was how it was found. When he read Rey's mind he could have learned about the sabre. He feels entitled to it.

 

Wasn't there are shooting-schedule leak for TFA which said we would see a flashback scene of Maz stealing Anakin's saber from Kylo Ren? This idea was dropped eventually.

 

Great catch! Looks like the same place (elevator?). I bet he smashes the mask after being pissed off by someone he confronted. Could be Snoke. The shards of glass are probably from those imperial lights. This scene could set the tone of him still being in inner conflict (just speculating).

 

Maybe that smashed mask is appearing on a different floor.

 

This further confirms my theory about him smashing his mask after Snoke's training. Either Ren smashes his mask because he is angry with Snoke/with himself or he smashes it because he doesn't need the mask any longer. This scene will be awesome either way.

 

I agree it doesn't look like the same area to me. Look at the baseboard in the first pic. There isn't one in the second one. Has to be somewhere else on that ship.

 

The same baseboard is in both shots - check out the teaser for better quality. There are some kind of pillars (don't know how to call it) not visible in the BTS, but maybe it's just a different angle inside this elevator. I tend to think it's the same place. If not, it's definitely the same architecture, so definitely one ship/base.

 

Q - do we know that the smashed mask isn't just a "promo" shot? Do we have confirmation that it happens (vs the trailer shot being symbolic)?

If it's part of an actual scene that would indeed be very dramatic and pretty cool

 

We don't have any confirmation, but I think it's a safe bet that it happens. Creating a symbolic image solely for promo purposes doesn't seem like them. I don't think they'll pull Rogue One again in terms of film vs trailers - and even it that case it was a matter of story changes and not creating something just for trailers.

 

Rian likes to use shots like this one in his movies, so it's not unlikely that we'll see this scene in the actual movie. The pacing could be different though. (You could compare it with Finn's first appearance in the teaser of TFA. This scene was in the movie, but it was used differently.)

But the smashing of his helmet will definitely happen, this was confirmed by the BTS video:


On the other hand this crushed helmet looks quite differently compared with the one from the teaser. So...

 

Maybe they were trying different versions or we'll see the helmet in a few stages of being smashed.

 

Why weren't the Knights of Ren in TFA (not the flashback) ? Is it possible they are all dead ? Killed by Luke in his pain ?

 

I think there's going to be a big reveal of the Knights of Ren. I suspect that's why we didn't see anything of them in the teaser trailer, the teaser poster, or the BTS...

... heck maybe we don't even see them until Episode 9, but I'd honestly like to get a glimpse of them at least in TLJ

 

Perhaps Rey fighting two people simultaneously is the only hint at the KOR to date.

 

When I saw the BTS footage I actually wondered if that's what they were practicing for. But you know, with all their penchant for misdirection it was probably included in the footage specifically to make me draw the wrong conclusion. Everything they show is calculated (precisely for people like us who look at the minutiae for clues) to keep mystery going.

I mean we know Rey is going to use the LS, so how do they generate more interest? Getting us to speculate who she'll be fighting.

Also I posted this in another thread, but what do people think about Kylo's new cape? I speculated that the cape was meant to be a symbol of how Kylo had fully committed to the dark and that the cape was literal "darkness" all around him. If I'm right, I think they means less chance that there'll be a mid trilogy redemption arc for Kylo.
