Has anyone else notice that the end of Rogue One makes no sense what so ever?

    1) The 3PO and R2 cameo makes no sense. We see them at the rebel base before the rest of the Rebel deploy to help Raddus. There are two issues here - Leia's ship was inside Raddus's, so how are 3PO and R2 on Yavin IV when they are susposed to be on Tantive IV?

    2) Why hell did Leia and/or Captain Antilles go to the Scarff battle but hide in Raddus's ship the whole time? If you're going to say maybe they were fighting THEN docked with Raddus's ship, why would they? I think we can assume once they have the plans Raddus would go back to Yavin while Leia would be off to get Obi-wan, so what would be the point in docking? And why would Leia/Antilles go to Scarff in the first place?!?!?! She has her own mission that her father gave her to help the Rebellion!

    3) Why would Tarkin take out the entire archive to stop the Rebels transmitting the plans after they'v transmitted the plans? Seems like using a gun to open a can of pop. We know from ANH ships in Star Wars can simply jam other ship transmissions and they can monitor transmissions and they'd know whether or not the plans had been transmitted off planet. Seems like Tarkin destroyed a whole bunch of valuable documents, equipment and personal because.........reasons?

Obviously some ideas in here, but they were put together in a messy way.

    3. Tarkin was informed that Krennic was on Scarif, obviously he didn't care about the archive but wanted to do away with Krennic.

again, using a weapon that big when a blaster would do the job (And the guy was already dead/dying) isn't good asset management.

How would Tarkin know that Krennic was already dying if he was on the DS? Tarkin always uses big guns. Stormtroopers use blasters.

That is besdie point - but destorying everything he did when a single blaster would do the job........idiotic.

The same could be said for the Empire as a whole. Plenty of blasters in the hands of stormtroopers for the Empire's enemies.

I guess in the heat of battle, Tarkin could've also viewed it as a failsafe. Even if he had intelligence that the Rebels had transmitted the plans and Vader was en route, as far as he could've known, the Rebels were still active on the surface. The base was important, I'm sure, but the Death Star was invaluable. Better to blow up the base and prevent any more plans from being beamed out to the galaxy than to risk the security of the battle station- or, at least that seems like Tarkin logic to me.

So your argument is tarkin is an idiot who wasted valuable military resources to settle a mostly personal issue.....

    1. Gareth already addressed this and the dialogue in Rogue One also addresses it by someone saying something about he's about tpo leave. He being Admiral Raddus. In other words he and Leia hasn't left yet. Which also includes Captain Antillies

    2. If you think about it it had to do with the reveal. Keeping it a secret. They couldn't just announce it or have a foreshadowing. It would have ruined the surprise of Leia in Rogue One. Which is technically why C3PO and R2 was sort of a clue to this

    3. What does it matter what he used? A silly nitpick really.

Here are the last couple of pages to the R1 novel and why the Tantive IV wasn't in battle.

    Fair enough.

Still over kill that wasn't needed - better to blow up the rebel ships (if Tarkin had blown up Radus's ship, how does ANH go?) and either have krennic killed or shamed out of an positino of importance.

I agree, it is a mess. It does not match up with the pre-existing story that was established in A New Hope, and neither does it match with the wonderfully written and performed Star Wars radio plays, which have the once-canon (sadly no longer canon since Disney's buyout and trashing of the EU) story of what happened to the Tantive IV before A New Hope began.

Frankly, I never liked the ending of "Rogue One" that much. I didn't like that it took a major battle for the Death Star plans to be stolen. Unfortunately, the opening scrawl of "A New Hope" made it clear that a major battle was involved in the theft of the plans. And I think Disney could have used Felicity Jones, Diego Luna and the others for at least one more stand alone film. Frankly, I like the cast of this film a bit more than the one for "The Force Awakens".

The Darth Vader/Tantive IV ending scene was not part of the original script of Rogue One. Several members of the main cast of Rogue One were surprised to have seen this extra scene during the premiere of the film.

As you will have noticed, there are none of the principal cast involved in that scene, as the scene was shot as an afterthought by the director after principal photography was wrapped to make an otherwise dull and flawed film more memorable and exciting. Clearly, the scene was green lighted by the studio executives to make the film more memorable than it would have been without it. Is it a coincidence that this extra scene is the one most memorable scene that all its fans and the media talk about over all other scenes in the film?

The extra scene was also a final added opportunity for the director to wheel out the Darth Vader character from retirement once again, allowing him to play with his childhood idol for a final occasion and risk over exposing the Darth Vader character purely for fan service. And this extra scene throws away or ignores the fact that an actual pre-existing backstory of how the Tantive IV gained possession of the Death Star plans already existed in written form and in some excellent radio plays.

In conclusion, the boring and flawed Rogue One film would have been universally panned by the critics and fans without that extra final scene. No wonder it was added on. The scene could have also been used as a more fitting location to give C-3PO and R2-D2 a quick fleeting cameo in the Tantive IV corridor, instead of that dreadfully forced feeling Yavin IV hangar scene apperance that they were wedged into. An opportunity missed.

I didn't know that. But it would be a feasible if not logical explanation why we saw Artoo and Threepio on Yavin IV (with the others gone), waiting for the Tantive IV and Leia to pick them up.

Anyway, I still only see one Blockade Runner leaving with no visual hint or suggestion that it is the Tantive IV which then cuts to a scene where Antilles hands Princess Leia a data carrier.

Assuming it was the same ship, why didn't they jump to hyperspace rightaway but had to wait until Leia personally received the data carrier? The moment the Blockade Runner (Tantive VI?) detached from the Profundity there was no going back but only to get out of the system ASAP. ;)

I understand your frustration, but you still have those radio plays. They're part of Legends, so they really don't cause any sort of conflict with the current canon, either.

So again, I get why you may not like it, but it's not really any sort of issue with continuity.

But...that's still the point concerning RO and ANH, i.e. "continuity" has been severely compromised (going by "official" statements):
    1. In RO Vader decides to take the matter of retrieving the plans into his personal hands, i.e. instead of taking stormtroopers (and loosing precious time in firefights) he mows Rebel guards down to get faster to the plans, yet these evade his grasp. Now, the Vader I know would have resumed responsibility for his inadequacy to get the plans the first time and would be most definitely first in line the second time (beginning of ANH) but instead and now let's the stormtroopers take care of breaking enemy resistance.
    2. In ANH Vader chokes Captain Antilles, *now* an innocent captain replying correctly, that they (Tantive IV) didn't receive any transmissions. Maybe Vader should have gotten straight to the point (according to the RO novelization he saw and knew that a data carrier had been passed) and asked about the data carrier instead, rather than play games with Antilles.
    3. "Don't play games with me, Your Highness" he told Leia, yet that's all the *new* Vader in ANH seems to be capable of doing. Again he blabbers about "transmissions" (*knowing* it's actually a data carrier) and in his futile attempts to link Princess Leia to the Alliance he doesn't even once claim or state that he saw *her* ship leaving the crime scene.
Ultimately the original ANH Vader - who seemed to know what you were up to even before you knew it yourself - has been retroactively turned into a bumbling character with egg in his face whose "threat potential" has been reduced to mowing people down that weren't even an equal match for him from the beginning (the original ANH Vader was above this and let his stormtroopers take care of such 'mundane' things).

Like many things, these can be plot holes- if you want them to be. Personally, I'd rather see how they can be justified, and I think all three of these cases have already been discussed at length here. If you want plot holes, or if you find the current explanations to be unsatisfactory (which, fair enough) then I get that. I just don't completely agree, but that's fine.

I disagree. I think Rogue One is full of memorable scenes and after my first viewing the Vader scene was just one among many great scenes which tied the movie together with the PT and OT. I can understand why it got the most attention on the Internet, because its the only scene where a lightsaber is used. Of course its going to get talked about for this very reason.

And you are wrong. Vader was always supposed to be in the last scene in the movie, with the first cut ending with Vader seeing the blockade get released and go. Then, it was Edward's editor Jabez Olsen (NOT Edwards) who wanted to add another scene before where Vader played a more active role. Edwards liked the idea and together they consulted with Kathleen Kennedy whom approved the idea.

Why does it matter if the scene was added to the movie at a late moment in production? Why would it matter if it was the first thing filmed during production? Do you have ANY idea how many great movies throughout history that had major scenes changed at the very last minute? Scenes that are now considered classics? Your post simply shows how ignorant you are to movies in general, and just want to take a chance to spew out your obvious aversion towards a movie that offended your vision of how things "really turned out before ANH".

The vintage radio plays are not canon anymore. In fact, even before Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm their canonicity was disputed. Nevertheless, there's no need to complain about EU drawing the short straw. For example, as a huge fan of Quinlan Vos from the Republic comics I was disappointed how he was handled in the animated TCW, but I don't hate TCW because of that.

I doubt Rogue One would have gotten "universally panned" by critics without the Vader scene. That's just ignorant thinking. Most critics highlighted K-2SO and Chirrut as their favorite parts of the film, so I don't buy into your clouded views.

I'm not aware of that, on the contrary George Lucas apparently cherished the radio dramas to such an extent that they became part of George Lucas Canon, i.e. where not contradicting the screenplays, novelizations and - of course - the actual six George Lucas films.
