Agree with you. I felt at some points I was reading a fan-fic more than a Harry Potter play. I felt like even the dialogues were off at some points.

Those were my gripes too. Though I thought Cedric actually became a vampire after being killed at the end of HP&TGOF (lol I know, old Twilight joke).

It's like saying Palpatine had descendants... wait a minute.

No, but wait a second, Voldemort had this different personality of looking out to live forever... why he would want to have descendants?? Why to bother to have a legacy if he was going to conquer death?

I have a bad feeling about this. Sometimes I got this feeling Rowling is following the dangerous Lucas path. And believe me, I've been a Harry Potter fan for a while now, and I had mixed feelings when I heard about a script being released. I mean, I was glad to hear of more HP material but when I heard a lot of particulars about the play - like the changing ethnicity of Hermione, and believe me, I'm all for diversity and inclusion, but come on, especially when you have 8 movies with a certain idea of Hermione, then you say she could be different. It's like having a future book for our OT heroes and guess what? Leia is blonde with blue eyes and Han Solo is Asian. Just for the sake of political correctness, that is what sounds a little bit off.

Aside of it, some of the situations felt sort of forced. I mean, the book is entertaining and endearing at times, but in some situations one could "see the sewings" as which college was this guy to be sorted, as the potential love interest of Scorpius, etc. Stuff you could foresee from the Epilogue from HP&TDH, but it was sort of forced.

    1) I wonder since the stuff on Pottermore is still great.
    2) Okay, will everyone just shut up about the black Hermione thing. Blind casting is very common in theater. Unless race actually comes up within the play (Othello for example), many productions will just ignore it. I've even see gender blind casting (Twelve Angry Men becomes Twelve Angry People/Women for example). The only reason any of you care is just because of the movies. Guess what? THIS ISN'T A SEQUEL TO THE FILMS! Nothing in there matters to this. Get. The. Hell. Over. It.

So that's political correctness? If you agree with us, please speak up, and if not, shut up? I know about theatre and I understand it is a freaking script, but whenever it is a character that has been introduced to the world in a particular way, it is sort of interesting that they choose to change it. I mean, it's theatre, they can do whatever they wish to do, I respect but I won't shut up as you had kindly suggest me to do.

And it is not a sequel? Then why it has been mentioned that there will be movies from the script? Let. Us. Respect. Other. People. Opinions. Peace out!

I'm just sick of people complaining about this, especially in an apples-to-orange way involving the films, which have no impact on the play. It doesn't matter if they cast a black actress to play Hermione. Her race has never once mattered in the stories. Also, if this was something like Romeo and Juliet, for instance, no one would complain if either of the titular characters were black.
There has been no announcement of any film adaptation of the play. And what I mean is that this is a sequel to the books, not the films. They are separate entities.

Please don't remind me of those films. Pure torture!
While I don't have a problem with Hermione being played by a black actress in onstage, I have to say that the decision confused me. She is not just white with brown hair in the films, but the books from which the character originates as well.

If it was just an adaptation of one of the seven original Harry Potter books, no one would care, but the fact that it passes itself off a sequel to them and doesn't maintain visual continuity is sure to rub some people the wrong way.

Ginger? Hermione is very consistently described as having brown hair. And Emma Watson isn't a redhead either.

As you said speak up if you agree, I will in parts.
Yes, the race of Hermione does not matter in the slightest, but as the script is said to be a sequel to the books Imo Hermione should have been cast as white. Now, I'm sure the actress who plays her in the play is great but for there to be some continuity, white actress would have made sense.
Warner Bros has trademarked Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, so at some point in the future they could make it into a film making it a sequel to the films as the script is the sequel to the books.

I don't really want to start having an argument about the races of characters in the script or in the books but in my mind Hermione has always been white because of evidence in the books which defines what race Hermione is.

Since reading the script and from conversations I had in previous posts, I felt that the reason Voldemort had a daughter was in case he died, he had a legacy and someone to be the next descendent of Salazar Slytherin, as he was the last. I also felt that he was clever enough to know that there was always a possibility that he could die, so he had a child.

I know, and believe me, I have heard wonderful comments about Noma Dumezweni's performance as Hermione, and that is OK. But as you have wisely mentioned, if Warner Bros is trademarking the script as the eighth story of the Harry Potter universe, why to come out with that tiny detail?? I'm all about inclusion and diversity, but same happens in my mind, I cannot see Hermione on a different light other than what we have been told from the movies.

I assume to hype people up about wanting a film version, so that they can see if they are able to make any money from it. Possibly as well get the actors from the films schedule to see if they can fit it in. That's my hope as I would love to see a film version.

    1) Just because Warner Bros. trademarked it doesn't meant it will make a movie anymore than Game Freak will make Pokémon WaterBlue or Pokémon Delta Emerald.
    2) J. K. Rowling herself didn't care about Hermione's race. We shouldn't either.
    3) Voldemort had no intention of EVER dying. Not one. It was his greatest fear and it shaped quite of bit of his personality. Think of the amount of effort he went through in creating his Horcruxes. Hell, he thought he had only lost the diary until he learned that Bellatrix's Gringotts vault was broken into and he learned that the Ring and Locket were missing. And this was a day or two before he died and a month or more after Delphini's birth.
Long story short: it doesn't matter how clever he was, he had ZERO intention of ever dying, therefore would not plan ahead for it.

Okay, you've done it. I have to unleash the full extent of my nerdy knowledge. The characters in the film aren't exactly the same in appearance to how they are described in the books:
1)It is said approximately seven trillion times that Harry has green eyes. Daniel Radcliffe has blue eyes.
    2) Ron is described as tall and lanky. Rupert Grint isn't.
    3) Hermione (until an incident in Goblet of Fire) had very large front teeth. Not so in the films.
    4) James and Lily were 21 when they died. The actors were visibly much older, even when Philosopher's Stone was made.
    5) Barty Crouch, Jr., had straw brown hair. David Tennant doesn't.
    6) Voldemort's eyes (after several Horcruxes) were red. Not so in the film.
And I can likely go on, and on, and on.
Hermione's. Skin. Tone. Doesn't. Kriffing. Matter.

I said that they could make a film in the future.
I don't care about what Hermione's race is either but for the sake of continuity between books and the play, actress should have been white. As I say should I mean for continuity that a black actress couldn't play Hermione. I say this because in POA her race was mentioned.
I'm still standing by my belief he wanted to preserve the bloodline. Even if he were to live forever.
