Words cannot form a sentence worthy of that scene. Rogue One definitely had a lot of fan service, and the full scale battle between the Imperials and the Rebels at the end rivals Hoth. But when Vader's light saber ignited, I could not contain my excitement. Even though I knew the Rebels would make off with the Death Star plans, in that moment I worried they might not. The amount of emotions that scene made me feel. . .

Wow, that works brilliantly! John Williams was one of the few things about the prequels that I thought needed no improvement, but that really works perfectly.

The Giacchino version of the Separatist scene really makes Anakin/Vader seem more Grim Reaper-like, while the original does more to highlight the drama.

The Force Awakens, Rogue One, and even Rebels give demonstrations of the Force that make you think, "Why don't we see this in the movies more frequently?" They just make sense. TFA has Kylo Ren freezing people and objects, as well as making people unconscious and probing into their minds; Rogue One has Vader pin a guy to the ceiling and then yank soldiers' blasters from their hands. Rebels has Vader (almost) forcing Ezra to decapitate himself. This is the kind of stuff you'd expect evil Force users to do, but in the first six movies, we didn't get much of it (besides Vader taking Han's blaster).

It was maybe the best scene of the movie! It's kind of odd seeing him go from such bad-assery to being much less physically active in ANH. I guess my only complaint would be that it would have been nice if maybe something happened that resulted in him being hurt when the ship escapes, to help explain the change in his behavior in the future. But I'm also scared anything different would be less awesome...

The vader scene was sooooooo good. I liked all of it and the way it progressed down multiple hallways. Very fun.

I really like that scene. It is a great way to kick off ANH and it really shows his rage. As is he is in full Dark side mode and nobody can stop him. Plus it wouldn't be Star wars without some sort of lightsaber content.

For me hands down the best part of the film. Growing up I never found Vader scary or intimidating. But that scene was the first time as 30 year old made me go “Oh f#&*!” And I was just as terrified as the soldiers. It also added urgency to putting the plans into R2D2 message and things that time was of the essence

This scene was easily my favorite thing about this movie.

Yes! Someone recently asked me to explain why I like "Emo Vader" (Kylo Ren) so much and part of that explanation lies in comparison to Darth Vader, who is a cool character, don't get me wrong, but not actually scary to me. I find Kylo Ren scary for multiple reasons, but that's not a discussion for this thread. After watching that Vader scene in R1, I was like "HOLY !@#$!".

I guess I'll go against the grain and say it made me cringe. It was just too heavy-handed fan service for my taste. I much more enjoyed the epic battle over the planet, than Vader's invasion of the ship.

I guess you'd have preferred the pre-reshoot version, then. ;)

One thing I just noticed watching this scene again is that Vader says prepare a boarding party and then proceeds to go on a one man wrecking crew of everybody on the ship. Did he really need to spend that extra time putting together a boarding party?

maybe it's like the brute squad. he is the boarding party?

i think the point is that he didn't expect the Rebels to flee in the shuttle, so he wanted backup.
he brings the boarding party to the next showdown in ANH.
