I fixed this by tapping the search icon and then closing my search, but the video itself seemed to run at a pretty low quality for myself (< 360p), and I wasn’t really interested in watching a pixelated Daisy, Mark, and Rian, who are normally very expressive at such events.

the quality of the video is hideous, indeed.
but again, Daisy's words are worth listening to ~ just her answer to that one question relevant to this thread.

Thanks, it worked for me. But yes, the quality is unbearable.

I think Daisy's words "It's amazing that you can take in someone and have them be part of your family, even though they're not blood related" should be taken with a grain of salt.

here's a transcription that someone did:

"Anything I say is going to be more weighted now. What I think is really amazing, cuz, again I didn't understand exactly the impact of SW. When TFA came out and everybody was like "oh my god who's your parents!?" I was like "Oh...?" Like, I was genuinely surprised that was the main question. Because for me, like, getting into something 'eyes wide shut, sort of thing', what I found so amazing in The Force Awakens is Rey meets Finn, and they've never met before. He's a defected Stormtrooper. She's a scavenger. And then we're like brother and sister, and it's this amazing connection. In that moment Rey finds a piece of family. And before that she's met BB-8 and she finds a piece of family, and she meets Han Solo and she finds a piece of family. When she's finally with the Resistance she's like "ah, this is sort of where I belong", and then off she has to go on another adventure, but essentially Rey is seeking belonging, and so obviously a lot of Star Wars is looking back and wondering where she came from, but I think the wonderful thing -- especially about this film is it's all about progress and the relationships people are making now. And obviously things are influenced by what you had before. But I just think it's beautiful that the relationships are formed with people that aren't even necessarily -- that wouldn't be classed as family, but family is who you choose, I think. You can choose to love people and bring them into your home and make a life with a group of people who have no blood relation to you."

"In this film Rey turns up and essentially has a quest from someone else... for Luke. It's not really about her. She just has to do this thing that she's sort of been asked to do. But because of the space Rey and Luke have on the island she's able to ask questions and seek guidance from Luke, and in that moment again Rey finds a relationship of sorts regardless of whatever that is. It's a relationship of sorts and I think that's what is so wonderful. The people Rey meets... she's so open, like, she's been alone for so long but she's so open to, like, finding connections with people. And she's never met a Kenobi, so... Skywalker?"
so make of all of of it what you will. good luck! : D

Many fans were dissapointed when finally Palpatine was the emperor, and not a clone or evil brother or whatever. It was too obvious and they were hoping it will be more complicated

The fact that Luke says, "Who are you?" to Rey doesn't necessarily dismiss the idea of him being her father. Like I've said before, it's very possible that Luke didn't know Rey existed, but she's still his daughter. I'm not saying that's definitely the case, but I think it's possible.

I like what Daisy had to say in regards to this, and I also like that she brought up that this isn't really her quest. Leia asked her to do this, and one of the things that's so interesting to me is that Leia trusts Rey to do this, without knowing her all that well, supposedly. In the novel, she even tells Rey that she's extremely confident her fate will be different than Ben's was. Considering Leia's been looking for Luke for some time now, you would think that she'd go after him herself once she knew where he was, but instead she sends this girl that no one knows who she is, yet everyone is seemingly drawn to. To me, that's really interesting.

It's never said that Rey goes to Ahch-To because she wants to be a Jedi. To be honest, there's nothing that suggests she wants anything from Luke either. Yes, she "thought he was a myth," and yes, she used a lightsaber in the last film, but she never implies that she has any interest in him or becoming a Jedi. Obviously she will become some variation of that, but this is not a quest that she would willingly go on. For the majority of the film, she wants nothing more than to go back to Jakku. Now she is going to find Luke without any hesitation. Regardless of whether their relationship is familial or not, it's obviously an extremely important relationship.

(In my opinion, though, I still think Rey was abducted at a young age and then abandoned, and therefore her idea of who her parents really are is not entirely accurate, hence why neither she nor Luke recognize each other.)

While I think she is likely going to be a random, I have said many times and still believe that the only way she can be a Skywalker is for Luke not to have known he had a daughter.

    I love this idea...
...Luke going away not knowing he has a daughter and after the fall of Ben she hid her on a backwater planet.

Rey has been on Jakku a good 10 years at least before Ben’s fall.

    Hmmm you are right...
    ...did not think about that.
Maybe her mother did not want her to become a Jedi, which is kind of weird considering that she had a child with one.

This post was brought to my attention and after 1 day's exile from the forums (after 10mins of the movie was shown in Mexico), I find myself being pulled back in!

    tenor.gif

There has NOT been a more clear or concise point made than this for Rey not being a Skywalker or Solo. Here DR is far more explicit about the points the "Rey Randomers" have made for a while - and she has now fleshed out that which she has said before.

Rey isn't related to the bloodline. She is a new character that becomes a part of that family. Her being random (unrelated) is part of what makes her character great - the fact that she makes these connections rather than them being forced upon her.

So this for me all but confirms "Rey Not-A-Skywalker-Or-Solo" and goes some way to confirming ReyLo.
Now the question is, do I stick around and have fun triggering the Rey Skywalker/Soloist fanbase or get the hell out of here before more spoilers show up?!

a cardiologist sees a heart problem, an oncologist sees cancer.. a neurologist sees erm.. something to do with the brain.

my point is, that from your side of the fence.. Daisy's comments back you up.
we haven't worked it out in 2 years, and they have kept this stuff tightly locked away.. we aren't finding this out 22 days before release from those words.

if you don't look for hidden meaning.. Daisy is straight forward in saying that Rey has started to find some belonging/family from those she has been thrust alongside in the adventure so far. there is nothing there about who she is or her parents are.

not saying you're wrong mind ;)

edit: oh and welcome back.. we've missed you :D

The sad part is I wouldn't doubt Disney would have made sure Rey's past was very unclear, see what majority wants and tell Rian Johnson to write it that way. So, sadly the people have spoken and seems as though people want Rey to be from a totally different family or even weirder a Kenobi. I don't get it because the EU books have had tons of material continuing the next generation of Solo/Skywalkers and how Luke, Leia and Han deal with this and they are GREAT! Also, I love Kenobi as much as anyone, but why would we have Rey be a Kenobi? I find that really odd and talk about shrinking the universe.

    Ironically this one

makes me think she could be Luke's child. :)

I think I'll go to see the movie with an open mind.

I really enjoyed the 2 years debate.
And in all honesty, the main takeway for me is that we may have a great story whaterver the case is going to be.

If she came there when she was 5 and been there 14 years, Luke trained Ben till 6 years ago, that makes her been there 8 years while Luke happily teaches the kids....

I totally agree. Plus, If Luke doesn't know she exists and Rey doesn't know know who her mother is then they will never know they are related without some intentional searching and/or DNA testing.
