Hands-down, the most fan-requested Star Wars Anthology that Lucasfilm could possibly make would be an Ewan McGregor-led Obi-Wan Kenobi tale set between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope. Sadly, Entertainment Weekly writer Anthony Breznican noted on a podcast that such a film won't begin development until after the Sequel Trilogy wraps up at the absolute earliest - but the good news is that there's a very important reason why they're waiting.

    Spoilers ahead!

With the Boba Fett movie originally slated for 2018 before being moved to an unspecified date in the future, some fans were hoping that Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Star Wars Story would take its place for the presumed 2020 slot. But it's not sounding like that's going to be the case: on Rebel Force Radio, while talking about the Anthology series, Anthony Breznican mentioned the reasoning as to why an Obi-Wan movie might have to wait beyond that particular window.

So, could there be some truth to that whole fan theory of Rey somehow being Obi-Wan's granddaughter or grandniece? That remains to be seen, but the implication here twofold - the first is that Obi-Wan might make a physical appearance in the rest of the Sequel Trilogy (after his aural/telekinetic message to Rey in The Force Awakens), and the second is that something directly related to Obi-Wan's past is brought up in the Sequel Trilogy, and that it would be impossible to overlook this detail in the Obi-Wan movie itself without opening up a can of worms in the continuity.

Another interesting note is that the Sequel Trilogy is identified as 'this first trilogy' - it could be that Anthony Breznican was just paraphrasing, but it may be possible that another trilogy is already in the early stages of planning. Whether or not it's a trilogy of Episodes X, XI, and XII remains to be seen, as there could always be a trilogy of movies set between other movies. Still, it sounds like there could be plans for another long-form cinematic story instead of just doing a bunch of one-shot Star Wars spin-offs for the foreseeable future.

If anything more comes up on either development, we'll be sure to cover it. Stay on target with Star Wars News Net: your Force for news for all stories related to the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

He's a writer for Entertainment Weekly. He's usually the first with official news from Lucasfilm.

Wow. Well, as long as that is the reason why they are not confirming a Kenobi solo spin-off I'm okay.

@Obi-Wan Solo might be interested on this.

Haha, thanks for tagging me, @PrincessLeiaCB3. Indeed things are looking more and more as I have long suspected and have been speculating to be. And Mr. Breznican, who is probably the most informed and in the know journalist about things Star Wars, seems to share my speculations and suspicions.

The only thing that I'm a bit mystified with is that according to Ewan McGregor, nobody from Lucasfilm has contacted him about it at all. Though seeing that they are trying to keep everything so secret and that the possibility for a standalone film is still a few years away in the planning, they are probably trying to keep even him in the dark. Though it is a bit odd that they (seem to) haven't told him anything about a possibility in the near future or talked to him about it (if Ewan is to be trusted). One would assume that they probably should make sure he has his schedule cleared up in advance, isn't it...But then, as I have suspected, an Obi-Wan standalone will be planned for after this trilogy is over, so that's still a few years away...

But in any case. The only character I see a standalone (or two) really worthwhile making about is Obi-Wan, and seeing that I think that he has always been crucially involved in the Skywalkers saga, I strongly believe that there is no way Obi-Wan is not directly involved in the current trilogy in a very significant way as well.
In fact, as I have speculated many times on the threads, I will be very surprised if Rey's currently mysterious parentage is not directly connected to Obi-Wan and that fact will play a significant role in this trilogy.

Also, and related to that, it is absolutely no coincidence that they named Han and Leia's son Ben and while many people have been puzzled about it, I think it is a very significant and meaningful choice as it will become evident that this saga is not only about finishing what Kylo's grandpa started, but also, and very significantly, be about finishing what Obi-Wan did. It's the legacies of both those characters that have influenced the events we have seen in the previous 6 films and I believe the legacies of both will be crucial again in this trilogy.
To me that will tie all the films together in a meaningful and very satisfying way. (I'm actually rather surprised not many people see it currently).

Anyway, it will be interesting to revisit all this after VIII (or even after IX) come out and see if I was right.

    For the time being:

everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.gif

You all obviously know, since few weeks now, that the actor Ewan Mc Gregor showed his enthusiasm to be Obi-Wan again in the saga. While awaiting to see Kenobi again in the Disney Spin-off, here is something good to make you wait.

Star Wars - The Secret Of Tatooine : A fan film about the exile of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Why Obi-Wan Kenobi Deserves a Spinoff Film
Now that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has resurrected the “galaxy far, far away” for the next generation, the future has seemingly limitless possibilities. Writer/director Rian Johnson is currently filming the untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII, and we’ve already made our case for why Yoda deserves to make his return to the saga. However, his fellow Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi is also due to rejoin the Star Wars universe in a big way sometime soon, especially considering that actors Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor briefly lent their voices to the latest film.

Although McGregor’s Kenobi could pop up in Episode VIII as a Force ghost to guide Rey or even Luke Skywalker, there’s an even greater case to be made for giving the Jedi Master his own solo film. After all, Han Solo is thus far the only existing character to receive a standalone release, and given the decades-long gaps in Obi-Wan’s history, there’s plenty of room to similarly flesh out his story, especially since McGregor has repeatedly said he’s keen to return to the role at some point.

I don't think they should make an OB1 standalone film, Ob1 is my fav character so I would love to see new adventures. They should make a live action tv show. For now Ob1 is on Tatooine watching over Luke, so they would have to center the entire film on one planet, and that has not been done b4 in a Star Wars film, or show other characters like Leia dealing with the Empire during that time period. Unless, they take a different route and have him go on adventures off planet but then who is in care of Luke and the Lars family?

They could show OB1 fighting off Krate dragons, Tuskin raiders, traveling to the Toushe station, Mos Espa, or Mos Eisely but what else? Are other jedi like Ezra going to visit him, will they show a live action battle between him and Maul for those that don't watch Rebels? However they go forward they need a viable story thats entertaining and most think that OB1 watching over Luke on Tatooine is boring... which I don't.

And they were wrong to presume so. Not announcing something immediately =/= saying they will never make it ever. Hence why Boba Fett was never formally announced.
It's not going to be a trilogy.
