Attempting to placate a portion of the fandom will just alienate another portion of the fandom. When you bring characters back who are so beloved it is impossible to give every fan exactly what they want. The job of the creative personnel in these stories are to tell good stories. It's not to pay fan service. J.J. apparently did too much fan service. Rian Johnson didn't do enough.

If more fans stopped coming down off their soapbox they built when they were five years old, they'd try to enjoy the films instead of complaining.

It's like getting most of your gifts on Christmas. Shut the F up and thank your parents. Don't Vhlor because you didn't get all your gifts. Be grateful you got anything.

I may love these films, but I don't think they are perfect. They don't give me everything I "want." But, I'm grateful to have them. I'm grateful to see Luke on screen again, and Han, and Leia, and Yoda....I don't deserve anything. I didn't make the films. The films inspired me.

This is really only in conjunction to the 1st point, but honestly Rey, Finn, and even Kylo have great arcs. The problem that most people seem to have is expecting them to have separate arcs in each film when their characters are actually developed through two films that are meant to be watched back-to-back. The only problem is that we haven’t had any SW films start where the other immediately left off until recently.

Maybe the titel should be changed to 'how to save this franchise?'.
My answer would be, hire Feige and/or Filoni as the ones beeing in creative charge + Lucas as consultant.

Why is it that people want Lucas back now? It's been years since Lucas has helped develop a good film. Personally, I love the guy, but man I do not want him anywhere near the new films.

I have to disagree with that sentiment. I'm invested in the characters in the ST.

maybe just because he created the characters that we follow for decades? maybe because he developped the magic and myth behind the storytelling discussed and analysed for decades? maybe he would have been able to give the Skywalker saga a fitting end? Many 'maybe's', but every single one is worth the try after what we got from Disney.

And if this whole TLJ arc of Luke would have been created by Lucas, I would be silent and not complain a single time. Not because I would love it then, but because I would respect that it is the vision of the creator.

I would love to see him back, because I enjoyed the six STAR WARS films that he made.

So... if Lucas had done the same thing that RJ had done in TLJ, you would be fine with it?

I would still dislike it, but accept it if it was the direcion of the creator. But we know Lucas had a different approach to Luke's backstory.

but he didn't want to tell us that story. he decided to pass over the reigns and let someone else finish the story.

If he wanted creative control but didn't want to actually do the hard work, then he could have retained LF and allowed other writers and directors to come in and make more Star Wars films.. but he didn't.

someone else is telling the story to us now, and whether we like it or accept it... it is what it is.

i wanted new.. i didn't want same 'ol same 'ol. TLJ was everything i wanted.. not perfect, not the direction i wanted.. but very very new and different. it challenged me and everything i think about Star Wars.

i know how strongly you feel about Luke's story @nightangel, and whilst there's nothing i can say to make you feel better about that sweetie, i would like to say that the burning passion inside you for Luke and the way his story has gone.. i now feel that burning passion about Ben Solo's trajectory in the saga. Despite all the terrible things he has done.. i have the same link and love for his character now that i have always had with Luke, Leia, Han, Obi-Wan, Chewie, R2 and C3P0.

    :)

Luke being in exile was Lucas' idea. At least this is mentioned in the concept art book I guess.

I didn't like that, either. That aspect made me roll my eyes so hard. Also, Padme dying of sadness. Would it have been so hard to have just found a way for her to die in a realistic way?

I know that you try to encourage me and I appreciate this, but sadly this treatment of Luke did make me hate Kylo much more. I don't want him to get the legacy Luke should have been allowed. :(

i’ll never give up! :p lol

I will just say that I’m not trying to make you feel the way I do.. I’m simply trying to get across how I feel. We are both extremely passionate about Luke Skywalker and it’s incredible that so many of us see his legacy so differently at this stage.

Obviously Kylo will have an Original Death Star for every Primary planet. ST will end with Kylo running the Galaxy and Rey fleeing to unknown to find Ahsoka and Ezra.

    Got a setup next trilogy.

He shouldn't. Nobody can really have that legacy - but Kylo. Freaking awful. And if that is power card they are going to play, so be it. IX won't be a roaring comeback for sure. Bland and weak with no heart. Everything Luke wasn't. Your not alone nighty remember that x

Amen! The PT had its moments, but was a mess. Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skulls? Absolute garbage. Lucas had his chance. He should have brought in decent script writers and a solid director (directors) for the PT, but he didn't. He could have done that and done the ST and KEPT LFL, but he decided to take the cash and run (and I don't blame him).

The idea that the ST needs to be saved is just silly. Saved from having actors turn in better performances? Saved from having better dialogue? The only problem I've had so far with the ST is, quite honestly, the music. John Williams have been, in my opinion, mailing it in. The music for TLJ is better than it was the TFA, but it's no where near his best (which was, ironically, his work on the PT).
