Johnson Trilogy Wish List

I am reluctant to reveal my full wish-list, because I fear RJ will not include most of them, after analyzing his directing style in TLJ.

For example, one thing I really want to see Star Wars do again is include a sweeping visual scope like the prequels. Say what you want about I-III, but the majestic cityscapes of Coruscant and Naboo were breathtaking. The ST, especially TLJ, kept things “intimate,” which is ok, but not my personal favorite. We kinda, sorta got this in Rogue One (with the elaborate sweep over Jedha,) but I want to be awed. I am not a big Marvel fan, but I long to see Lucasfilm to adopt their additude regarding special effects.

 

I went into TLJ craving some lightsabers and was a bit disappointed. So, more lightsabers.

I also just want way more strange things in this huge galaxy. Aliens, planets, force powers, etc. I don't really mind leaving behind the familiar to experience new things.

 

I want to see Rian do some weird stuff with Star Wars and go into unexplored territory with it, but also have some familiar locations and species. I wouldn't mind seeing some Jedi or Sith either. Maybe it can be in the far future from TLJ or thousands of years in the past. What I really loved about TLJ is the philosophical ideas and dialogue between Rey and Luke about the history of the Jedi and their faults. Imagine a whole movie dedicated to the Jedi or Sith like that. I would watch the crap out of that! It would be interesting to have some non-human characters too because I feel like throughout the entire franchise that's something that's been lacking in the films. I know Rian is a very creative guy, and he's not afraid to do his own thing so I trust him with this. He can do better with his own established characters as well with no previous films in a trilogy.

 

I'd be fine seeing some Jedi for sure, but I'm personally always drawn to the Sith Prophecy and believe Anakin ended them. New sects of darkside users that have different ways and are not technically Sith would be fine with me in the RJ Trilogy.

And I agree, I think Rian Johnson having his own clean slate with new characters will make it not only easier on him but easier for the fans to not find criticisms. It's just so difficult to write the Original Trilogy characters I feel. There's an immense pressure to hold them up

 

Of all the activity in Star Wars production Rian Johnson trilogy is what I am most excited for. What I am hoping for is for him to go way back in time and show the split of Jedi into Jedi and Sith.

 

My gut feeling is that Rian's new trilogy will be really far off into the future. I think it'd be really neat to see the descendants of the Jedi and Sith, and how they will evolve beyond the Skywalker Saga. I believe that the furthest Legends ever got was around 100 years ABY, so this is a prime oppurtunity to go even further. What would be really cool is if my prediction about Beinoff and Weiss' new series being set in the Old Republic era (or before) ends up being true, so we get to see the story of the light side and the dark side at opposite ends of the Star Wars timeline in two ongoing film sagas.

 

Probably competent writers, some help to develop the story, that I am sure Rian will give an interesting premise.
The biggest criticism of SW has come when the same person has written and directed the same movie (see PT and TLJ).
Probably it would be a smart decision.

 

A New Hope, The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi were written and direct by the same person and were fantastic. I'm not sure if RJ will write the entire the trilogy, but outlining it out should be a huge improvement over how the ST has been developed. Obviously the main priority is to make an accessible first film. If that film doesn't work then the trilogy won't work.

 

What we need is a crying Padme dying of sadess emoji!

How else can one convey the heart ache of missing out on Microbe Wars: A Midiclorian Story Parts X, Y, and Z?

 

Latest report from Making Star Wars dot net indicate that the Rian Johnson trilogy will be “a little more all ages in terms of tonal quality”. Details are scarce, but this seems to indicate that Johnson’s tone will be more in line with the episodes while the Game of Thrones trilogy will be darker.

 

There's one thing I'm almost positive will happen. Rian is a big fan of David Lynch. This is one of the reasons why Laura Dern got the role of Amilyn Holdo. Not only that, he loves Twin Peaks. So, this thing is casting Kyle MacLachlan in one of the secondary roles.

 

Just want to reiterate my lust for title cards and opening credits.

He's one helluva actor, so yes please indeed.

 

I don't have any specific elements that I'm hoping for. But... RJ has mentioned how Akira and Cowboy Bebop have inspired past works of his so I really hope this trilogy gives off those same kind of vibes.

 

It's not like evil clones are anything new in Star Wars.

 

That would be great! I'm a fan of MacLachlan. I'd like to see him as a baddie.

 

I want romance, I want kissing and I want a singing, which is not part of a performance in a club. Give me also striking visuals, lie Crait or Snoke's Throne Room or Crait, decent character development, interesting themes and I will eat these films up.
