Bad taste detected. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, to me, is second only to Jurassic Park III for the most disappointing movie in the franchise. And yet it was able to cruise past $1B on brand recognition in spite of being average at best and messy at worst. (And keep in mind that I'm one of the people who think that the original Jurassic World is fantastic.)

Solo flopping is really just the perfect storm of questionable creative decisions behind-the-scenes (both from Lucasfilm and Disney), a lack of interest from casual audiences, and the nature of the directors being fired halfway through overshadowing the rest of the conversation about the project. It's a shame, because it's a good movie.
The end of a 9-movie saga is inherently a draw.
Three of the four Star Wars movies released under Disney disagree with you, and it bears noting that while China doesn't care about the franchise, China gives American distributors much less money than other international box office markets do; it only matters because so many people see movies there.
This aged poorly, as did any and all "Mark Hamill isn't going to appear in a movie he's contractually-obligated to appear in" conspiracy BS.
Again, three of the four movies were massive hits.
Rey merch continues to sell gangbusters and all of the leads introduced in TFA are well-liked. I'll give you that Rose isn't nearly as popular as the other four, but none of the characters introduced in TLJ were.
Jumanji 2 did as well as it did because it came after Star Wars and served as good counter-programming. Now, the sequel will precede the Star Wars sequel, cutting off its legs at the box office (which is how Jumanji 2 made nearly $1B). The sequel is likely to be much more front-loaded and that's a crucial mistake and a clear case of hubris on Sony's part.

I'd update my above post but since I can't:

    Domestic multipliers:

I'd love to make one for the release months and what the average and median is for 90% of domestic gross, but that's a lot of work to do for each of the 1025 movies individually. If I figure out an easy way to do it I might in the future.

[/QUOTE]I know that someone will defend it as perfectly normal, but to me - seeing those two numbers side by side - R1 1,0 vs TLJ 1,3 - is so strange....there should be abismal difference. You can pretend it´s not true, but saga episodes are on a completely different level in every way than spin offs and so it should be those two numbers.....

Just because its a standalone film, the quality shouldn't be lower than an episodic film. That sounds ridiculous . Both films were great IMO, films are subjective you may think differently, of course. People that degrade the standalone films or think they are not as important as the episodic ones are ruining this franchise. Look what happened to SOLO:eek:

So simply because its a standalone film, less people should go out and see it? More people should go out and see Trilogy films... like episode 9... ridiculous to say the least:rolleyes:

No it´s not. Saga films are followed for decades. A lot of people wants to know what happens to the original characters and where the story goes. Look at Solo. A stand alone movie. Most of my friends didn´t even know it´s been made or it´s in cinemas. And when they knew, most of them didn´t go to watch it just because they weren´t interested. And they follow the saga since the 80s....I think R1 did extremelly well while TLJ did not so well but it still made more money. But I respect your opinion. I won´t tell you your´s is ridiculous tho.
