Not necessarily, though it is likes that give alerts and give the most trophy points...

 

I don't know what's more odd - that the rating with the gold medal on it comes in second best in trophy points or that it takes exactly one year since joining to learn this! Judging by the thread and post ratings I doubt I'm the only one.

 

i find this bizarre too. i "like" things pretty casually, but give out the "great post" for what i think is really cool great stuff.
but sometimes i feel torn about it because i know it's not "worth" as much to the poster. i console myself by assuming most people don't actually care about the points but enjoy seeing the different ratings or feel good enough to get a medal or a yoda instead of another green shield.

 

I actually feel better when I work my ass off for an update and see the gold medals come in, even if I know that they're worth doubly less. In fact, it is seeing the green shield that I find most upsetting about when people rate the comic thread - because I often interpret it as an update that was "just okay". Not funny, not great. Just serviceable and of a passable quality.

I don't care much for internet points, so I'm personally fine with the system as it stands right now - but maybe make a "Great Post" worth two rating points instead? Or make trophies specifically tailored by the number of "Great Posts" or even "Informative" ratings you've received.

You know, make those special ratings something truly worth earning for those interested in climbing the Cantina ladder.

i want to give medals, but then i want to give you points! i hate feeling like i have to make that choice!!!

i agree that the rating less often given should carry more weight.
wise and great post should outstrip a mere "like" in my book.
that's certainly my intention when i dole them out.

 

I don't think negative ratings should be abolished altogether, but for me, the problem is that sometimes I get negative ratings just because someone disagrees with my opinion.

I think it's fair to give negative ratings for things like trolling and personal attacks, and I also think it's fair to give neutral or "disagree" ratings for things you don't agree with. But if you can get negative ratings just for posting something an opinion that isn't popular, that restricts people from offering unique perspectives because there is a chance of retaliation.

To give an example, I think it would be fair to give "Dislike" to a comment like "You're an idiot," and I also think it would be fair to give "Disagree" to a comment like "I love/hate the special edition!" But I don't think it's fair to give "Dislike" to "I love/hate the special edition."
