If TLJ disappointed you, what does JJ have to do in IX to get you back?

    Just for fun:

*Rey, Lando, Maz, and Chewie in the Falcon...

Lando: "You're mother's name was Mara. She's... gone now."

Rey (*tearing up): "Tell me about her. What was she like?"

Lando (*glances uneasily at Maz and Chewie): "That's... complicated."

*Falcon comes under attack at that moment and Lando persishes in the battle...

*Star Wars fans start jabbering incoherently and convulsing in the theater...

I think everyone would collectively crap themselves. But that would be a fantastic way to frame it.

Yes this....and it would open an avenue for a Mara stand-alone backstory leading up to the birth of Rey....after a series of comics or novel to provide a foundation.

I want to see a Civil War, like it was teased in the Phasma deleted scene. I feel like Reylo was always supposed to be the center piece of the ST- and they're making the same mistake the PT did with centering the story around the Lovestory, but completely forgetting to tie loose ends with the Sifo Dyas sideplot.

@RockyRoadHux is referring to a Civil War in the FO itself. Finn convinces some Stormtroopers to fight against the FO. The term "Civil War" is probably wrong for this. "Riot War" is more fitting.

This plot was finished in Clone Wars. Yeah I know, that sucks.

I like the world weary war torn Luke. And I could accept Luke is different considering it's been 30 years since we last saw him (at 47 I'm not the same person I was at 17)... BUT, RJ puts ZERO effort into offering up ANY sort of explanation. Then he spends what, 20 minutes on Canto Bight?

I think JJ needs to simply jump forward 3 years or so, kill Leia offscreen and go from there.
    1. Answer the questions asked by TFA.
    2. Since JJ created them, just the Knights of Ren.
    3. As someone else said, stop killing off OT favorites.
    4. Write these characters in a way that makes them less annoying. Holdo? Rose? Both could have been excellent but yeah... Kill off Finn in a meaningful way if you aren't going to have him do anything except be the butt of stupid jokes.
    5. Rey needs to have a real character weakness/failure that she overcomes. So far I've not seen it.
    6. Stop rewriting the laws of Star Wars. No more tracking through hyperspace silliness. I'd ignore that just as they ignore midichlorians.
    7. Don't try and make a film that is "surprising" or whatever other adjectives they kept using about VIII.

That's a good start for me. LOL

I was mixed, and still am mixed on TLJ, leaning more positive. So I'll see Episode IX no matter what. But what I'd like to see in the episode is pretty simple.

    1. Finn
    2. Knights of Ren
    3. Abrams being Abrams

Do I want more? Yes, but not even knowing a title makes me a little hesitant to speculate on anything at the moment.

I really don't know, that's a tough question. I don't only feel zero anticipation, they're starting from negatives of anticipation.

What would help for me is the higher ups acknowledging the dislike of TLJ in a respectful manner, something along the lines that JJ did after TFA. Not a "Sorry, not sorry." or "I'm sorry you felt that way." because it's not really an apology that I want (and those aren't really apologies, they're insulting). Just acknowledgement that what they did was divisive but to hang in there because IX will make it right, or some such thing. I don't think this alone would get me back, but this with great marketing might get me to watch in theaters after I get spoilers that I feel confident I won't feel like I did after TLJ.

Things that I would like to see...

Reasoning for Rey's quick pregression. This doesn't need to be hereditary. It could be anything, even a retcon of the books that I believe claim she picked up training from Kylo's mind rape, but rather removed a block of some former training (maybe from Ahsoka or Mara...). But honestly, something (anything) better than downloading info from mind rapes. (I'm against retconning the movies, but the books are fair game for me)

Not destroying the Falcon, Chewy, R2 or C3P0. Giving them bigger roles.

A lot of work on the world building. Give us a sense of scale and a lived in galaxy. Do it organically, get JJ some help in doing this if he needs it. Whatever it takes, this is important.

    No Reylo.

Time skip of 10 years. In that time the Falcon travelled to Endor and the Porgs got off and reproduced like Tribles. So much so that the Ewoks are in a war of attrition with the Porgs and our heroes get together to save the Ewoks. While there, Chewy meets his half breed child from an Ewok he hooked up with after ROTJ. We get the whole "I am your father moment." in wookie with subtitles. The half breed Wookok is force sensitive and is seduced by Kylo and becomes his apprentice. Rey can't kill Chewy's offspring due to his (or her) cuteness. When Rey dies at the Wookok Sith's hands... ok, never mind, obviously this last paragraph is bs. ;)

Everything else though would help bring me back on board for the ST. Maybe some more back story on Kylo and Luke to further explain Luke's decision making process.

Luminous beings are we not this crude matter.

No stakes??? What movie did you see? The effort cost him his physical form.

More interaction and banter between Poe, Finn, and Rey.

Put Rey into a position where she needs to be rescued.

More Luke even if he’s ghost.

Kylo Ren gets a new mask.

Big battle with a Jedi army.

    Satisfying end to Kylo’s arch.

    Knights of Ren.

Let Rose die. Kill her if you have to.

JJ will give us a good/solid movie so I’m not worried about. The one thing that i really want to see is Luke in the last shot to wrap up The Skywalker Saga. Whether it’s Rey (maybe they can tie in Leia footage) looking out at Force Ghost Luke (similar to ROTJ ending). Luke Skywalker is SW for me, and it would be perfect to see him in the final image to close the book on 40 years.

I’m not going to reargue this again because it has been debated to death already but there are many compelling arguments that TFA demonstrates that she was a nobody in the Rey’s parentage thread leading up to TLJ in the TLJ forum

For Luke to have teleported to Darth Plaguis secret lair where he projects himself into Force Sensitive corpses. Luke busts out Darth Vader’s Red Saber and kills DP who is played by Rian Johnson.

Rey's lineage is an issue for me as well, athough I'm not really sure what other possibilities than Rey Nobody make sense any more.

But I think we should stop accusing Johnson for all the choices that the movie makes. It's not like he decided to make Luke a hermite or that he alone chose Rey to be a nobody (if she really is). I can't be sure but I don't think that anyone would let him throw away the Rey Skywalker-Rey Solo-Rey Kenobi scenarios and write his own... Or that Luke was supposed to be the badass hero of this trilogy as well and Johnson killed him.

Of course he played his part in all that, but I think that most things were decided with Kennedy, Abrams, Filoni, Kasdan, Arndt and anyone else involved, even Lucas himself could have given his approval.

If he did things that noone liked, he would have been out like Lord, Miller and Trevorrow.

Luke's Lightsaber calls out to her. The same exact music that was played in 1977 when Luke embraced his destiny when he saw his step-parents murdered, played for Rey when she force grabbed Luke's Lightsaber. She hugs Luke's sister when she returns after Han has died (while Chewy is more worried about Finn), despite never meeting her or being introduced (shouldn't it have been the other way around?). She is sent to give Luke the Lightsaber, why not have Leia go too? You can blame JJ and/or RJ, but that was a lame trick they played on the fans for throwing these obvious clues in TFA and then they essentially meant nothing in TLJ.

JJ has already admitted the hug was a mistake, so I think we can throw that out.

Leia remains with the Resistance because... she runs the Resistance. You were far from the only one that had that complaint coming out of TFA, but I think something TLJ does very well is show us just how chaotic and disorganized the Resistance becomes when Leia isn't around. They need her.

It's mentioned in both films that she's dreamed about Ahch-To. Her destiny was always meant to intertwine with Luke's, she was always meant to go to that island. The saber calls to her to point her in that direction.

This is going to be another one of my "I understand my opinion may be unpopular, but you asked for my opinion" posts.

I was disappointed in both TFA and TLJ. I'm still hoping IX has potential to be a good movie, and I will try my best to keep an open mind, but even if it is awesome, in my opinion, the ST has gone too far down the wrong path to be saveable. (And yes, I know, that's what they said about Anakin...)

As someone else put it - he's made a lot of good movies, but I've never seen JJ Abrams make a 'great' movie.

I'm really bummed the guy who made TFA and set up this super unoriginal "new rebels" vs "new empire" universe is back and gets to make two Star Wars movies...But oh well, I will still see it many times and convince myself it is great no matter what.
