Rogue One has a tremendous final act, but it plagued by a pretty boring buildup. I feel like people grade this one on a curve because of the last act and the Vader moment at the end. It works as fan service. It's the least re-watchable of the 4 Disney films so far. If I had to rank the 4 films I'd go...

    TLJ
    TFA
    Solo
    RO
I actually think it will change over time. As time passes Luke's arc in TLJ will chisel itself in the mind of Star Wars fans. This happened with some of the beats that people complained about in the PT. People will forget what they wanted and move on...

I actually split my Disney movies among standalones and saga movies. I have really embraced the standalone (and want more) and have distanced myself further and further from the Saga movies to the point where I'm not even hyped for Episode 9.

I think Jyn gets a bad rap among the fans cause they expect every female character to have the sass of Leia. Again, I always come back to that for Rogue One to work, the movie and the characters can't overshadow ANH. These 'nobodies' in R1 were the first step in saving the galaxy, and paved the way for our heroes Luke, Leia and Han to finish the job.

I'm probably in the minority, but the Vader moment doesn't elevate the movie as it may do for others. I still enjoy the ending and how it leads into ANH (I wish they never showed Leia's face and just showed the back of her hood holding the plans). I think the first hour is all about how the rebellion is split and the characters are representing that. There is no real direction in the Rebellion and there is no real trust (even among Jyn and Casian), and the 2nd hour is really the birth of the rebellion and what we see in ANH. I think you need that dicotomy in the first hour to make the 2nd hour meaningful as to what they are all giving up.

The only wooden thing here, is people's obvious hate for Disney Star Wars. I wish the same team that made this film would make a film based on a Jedi master and his/her Padawan. Rogue One was a film for the common freedom fighter. I would love to see what they would do if they included Jedi. Maybe the same era focusing on Jarrus, Bridger, or Tano.

Every time I watch Rogue One, it pulls on my heart strings. It's the best Disney Star Wars film, for me. Solo was prrrretty GGgooood, I wish Ron Howard had more time to work on it. Maybe a December release would have better suited the film. TFA and TLJ, although not perfect films, contain numerous segments that are unforgettable as well.

    1. Rogue One
    2. TFA
    3. Solo
    4.TLJ

Felicity Jones did such a great job as Jyn, in my book, before she gets too old, I'd like to see her play Leia in a standalone film, that spunky Rebels Princess hair buns and all.

Not sure if you watch ‘Stranger Things’ but the girl who plays Eleven looks exactly like a young Leia. She’s still a teenager but they put her picture next to a young Carrie Fisher and it was eerily close.

    @Rogues1138
If you grew up in the 80’s or have any affinity for the 80’s, you’ll love Stranger Things. It’s a combination of Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Dungeons&Dragons, ET, Aliens, etc. But it does it in a way that isn’t cheap fan service as it incorporates it well within the story.

It’s an easy binge as I think each season is only 7-8 episodes.

Oh yeah, I certainly did. Sounds like a show right up my alley. I was in my favorite comic book shop, I flipped through the Stranger Things companion book. The way it's designed, it seems like it's a special show. The book is published in fair condition which I thought was really cool. Just realized why I haven't watched the show. I got rid of my Netflix account a few years ago. I'm looking forward to Disney+ and I already have a few other streaming services. I think I'll have to find another way to watch it.;)

    I'll bite.

I personally find Rogue one the only Dysney era film that is rewatchable. It is equally fantastic each time. TFA and Solo I can sit through but they don't have that magic.

I cannot get through TLJ. To me it is outright unwatchable.

I also think you are going to be disappointed about the how people are going to see Luke's arc in the future. The general consensis seems to be that the prequels are still bad.

    Yes

It may be called a fan-service film by many, but it was visually amazing and the story wasn't that bad.

That tends to be my thoughts as well. I've always been super excited for the next Star Wars movie but so far I'm just not feeling anything for Ep 9. :( I do hope that changes.

Not a fan of the idea to see the Big 3 recasted and make it seem like they all had a super thrilling, exciting life prior to the events of ANH. I really don't need to see young a Leia, her adventure starts with ANH. That's what made AHN special for them- a Princess, a Farmboy and a Scoundrel get thrown together and that's when the story of their life starts.

And then take Solo for example - Han's story arc (-> joins the Rebellion) was the same in Solo as it was AHN. That movie couldn't have been more redundant.

Not sure if Rogue One is really "the best" : this statement is far too subjective, everyone has his own definition and meaning for what could be "the best" and why.

I do think however, Rogue One is the Disney film that the least disappointed the fans. Because of many things: Vader's return and his final glorious scene, the return of the first Death Star, Leia, Tarkin, the global ANH look&feel (the laser firing sequence, Tarkin's "You may fire when ready", ...), plus, for many fans, because of extra connections : with Rebels (General Syndulla, Chopper), with the prequel (Bail Organa), with TCW (Saw Gerera), ... add the lovely droid K-2SO and a lot of humour, and ice the cake with some original images from ANH.

    Well done Gareth.

It's not the best but it's still a good one. Read so many eu articles of how the death star plan were captured this was the better plot.

I watched and recently for the first time since I saw in theaters.I remember liking it, but have been re-watched it again, wow! For starters, it's an excellent looking movie – possibly the most realistic looking Star Wars movie ever made. The effects are brilliant. It's a very compelling and thrilling story too. I think it's arguably the best Star Wars movie ever made.

I love Rogue One and if they have another movie marathon before episode IX, I hope they include it because it fits so well with IV.
