    1. Yes it is

    2. Abrams is a competent director who will do whatever the studios tell him to do

    3. SAVE MARTHA!!!!!

    4. 46% audience approval is not a fluke. TLJ is just one trick repeated for two and a half hours

    5. GOT is impossible for Martin to finish because there is nowhere else for the story to really go. Still doesn't excuse B/W's cartoon logic of season 7.

    6. They should never have been made in the first place

    7. Before the the prequels, the franchise was 2-1. Since the entire PT was bad, the score is now 2-4. Hence it was two-thirds bad.

No movie is ever really doomed. Yeah, EPIX has not many possibilites to go to, but there is still hope. => the characters

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's how the movie business works.

And that's many because of people wanting a godlike Luke Skywalker. The movie itself is very well made. It's definitely not the best though!

The only spin-off I really want is a Kenobi movie or entirely new stories.

I don't think the entire PT is bad. ROTS is actually quite entertaining.

Episode IX is a film, not one third of a film. Sure, it has to be connected to VII and VIII because of it's nature of a finale of a trilogy, but it's still a separate entity, a new film. Every film that wants to tell its story successfully needs to establish the setting, characters, story, etc. more or less by itself, even if it's a part of a franchise. Just because of this need this every film in a franchise is sort of a new start, which by extension means that it isn't doomed just because of (air quotes) "TLJ being bad." This is also further facilitated by the fact that the ending for TLJ is closed, which further strengthens the need for establishment of themes, characters, story, etc.

Despite my growing list of complaints aimed at TFA, the only Abrams' film I've ever seen, I do agree he's competent. Don't know anything about his relationship with studio executives, so I won't comment on it.

In BvS and IX Terrio has beenco-writing the script with the director of each particular film so whatever input he has it still will be and was overshadowed by the voice of the directors.

Why people keep on using the RT user score as the primary statistic for the viewer's response to TLJ and not IMDB or letterboxd, websites designed for exactly that purpose? On both websites the grade is the same 7.2/10 for IMDB and 3.6/5 for letterboxd, which is fine. Nothing great but nothing bad either. It's fine.

Also, what is this "one trick?" Subverting expectations? The only time the film does truly subvert expectations is when Luke throws the lightsaber away but then the reasoning behind this act is stated in the text of the film in quite some detail. Additionally, this move presents the character of Luke and his arc in the film in an efficient manner. Otherwise all of the actions presented in the film are set up in the earlier parts of the film or earlier installments of the saga and are consequences of characters' opinions, actions and their traits.

Never seen an episode of GoT or read any of the books from A Song of Ice and Fire saga, so I have nothing to say on the matter.

No project is irredeemable from the get-go. The idea of exploring different faucets of SW universe in more experimental (for a big-studio blockbuster, that is) films is, by itself, pretty exciting. Funnily enough, the only film that fulfills this premise successfully, is The Last Jedi, the main episodic entry of Skywalker Saga. Rogue One fails to deliver a compelling story when it strips Jyn of any agency because she has to go find the Death Star plans for the Rebellion and when it becomes more interested in killing of its main cast for a pure shock value instead of giving them compelling arcs or roles in the story. Solo, on the other hand, is so interested in filling in the backstory of Han that it forgets to create a narrative that can rise above anything more than "it's fine." Do I believe these films can be good? Yes, I do. As I've said before, no project is irredeemable from the get-go. The last two films however aren't really a great proof of concept and I'm quite happy they've been shelved.

RotJ is fine. It's decent. Not as good as ANH or TESB, but definitely not in the same category as the Prequels. It's fine. It's fine.

George Lucas should have never sold the franchise to Disney in the first place! But you know, when a monopolistic corporation spends 4 billion on another company’s IP because they are starting to go creatively bankrupt (live action remakes, anyone?) they just got to milk it as best as possible, don’t they? Never mind that Star Wars was creatively bankrupt for nearly thirty years at the time of the Lucasfilm sale, they only care about exploiting brand familiarity for profit. They got to pump one out every year, even though they used to some out every three, because they need to chase that stupid cinematic universe trend that only worked for marvel! Now we have four more mediocre movies added to the franchise with at least one more on the way and an angrier fan base than ever before.

Maybe the new films will create their own younger fanbase.
I have fun with all of them. They are not the center of my live. I like to share SW viewings with my kids and talk about the characters with them.
It is very special that sthg in our film industry lasts as long as SW. That fact for itself is very special nowadays.

I only see one saga: episodes one-to-six. Everything after that is just a cash-grab. I don't know anyone who even likes Star Wars anymore. The demographic for which Star Wars was originally made certainly doesn't appear to be into Star Wars in the same way that my generation was. Perhaps that's because there's a greater amount of films out there (the Marvel movies for instance) that those kids simply enjoy more.

When I was a pre-teen, I couldn't wait for the next Star Wars film. After taking my kids (aged 12 and 14, respectively) to see The Last Jedi they said "Enough, now, Dad. Please don't take us to see another Star Wars movie." And I can see where they're coming from.

Every movie is just a crash-grab. Welcome to the business.

Well, you're in a forum with thousands of people who like Star Wars.

Yeah, that's true. There are much more eye candies now.

Okay, I don't buy this. Even though I dislike TLJ, I still want to see IX. I actually know a lot of people who aren't fans of TLJ, but they still want to see IX.

Well, you're going to have to buy it because that's what they said. Star Wars just isn't what it used to be anymore.

Does this question change your view now that Palpatine is 'somehow' in TROS? Is the Saga essentially about Palpatine's plan that is executed within all 9 movies and the Skywalkers are the main players?

Maybe it's about the Skywalkers and their struggle with Palps and their refusal to play their role as he has foreseen for them.

I usually view it on a 55" tv from the couch. I'll have to wait until TROS comes out to give my feels.

7 and 8 don’t really seem part of the Saga. Their entire purpose seemed to be a method to end the old hero’s. Did nothing to carry on the previous story so far other than inclusion of old characters.

It fits more as a spin off than a continuation of 1-6. Hopefully JJ can correct that with 9.

Episode VII is definitely a part of the Saga. Kylo Ren is the grandson of Darth Vader and wants to finish what he started. The FO are remnants of the beaten Empire. The legacy saber has also its return and part within the story. There are alot of things which carry on the previous story so far.

I see the saga as the story of the Skywalker family across three different generations. Anakin was essentially supposed to destroy the Sith, restore balance to the Force, and save the galaxy, but he ultimately did the exact opposite and helped replace the Republic with the Galactic Empire. Luke and Leia played an essential role in destroying the Empire that their father helped build and brought relative peace to the galaxy for some time. Then Ben Solo came in, joined the successor to his grandfather’s regime, and helped topple the New Republic and Luke’s Jedi Order. As of right now, we don’t know where his story leads to.

The saga thus far has focused on the failures of this family and their friends and how it’s affected each other and the galaxy as a whole. Qui-Gon failed to save Shmi Skywalker from slavery and had he lived, the rest of the saga could’ve played out very differently. Padme failed to uphold democracy and her relationship with Anakin caused his downfall and she was unable to bring him back to the light. Obi-Wan and Yoda failed to train Anakin (and even Luke to an extent) properly and played right into Sidious’s hand. Anakin failed all of the women in his life: he failed to save his mother, failed to keep Ahsoka in the Jedi Order, and was so afraid of failing to save Padme, he ultimately made a deal with the devil to save her life and he ended up fulfilling the vision he tried to prevent. He betrayed his values and the Order he served and the entire galaxy suffered as a result. Luke failed a lot too. He failed on Cloud City, he failed to convince his father to turn back to the light (though he did serve as the catalyst in Darth Vader’s redemption by showing him that there is still good in him), failed to restart the Jedi Order, and he repeated his father’s mistake of causing the future he is trying to prevent by activating his lightsaber while Ben Solo was asleep. All of this failing led to Luke exiling himself, where he failed to prevent the rise of the First Order and the destruction of Hosnian Prime. The New Republic Leia worked so hard to create was weak, didn’t serve the galaxy properly and she failed to show them how much of a threat the First Order was until it was too late. She and Han were also to blame for the rise of Kylo Ren because they failed to parent him properly. It’s up to him to break the cycle of peace and destruction that the battle between the light and dark has caused with his family always being at the center of it. Or at least that’s how I see his story going; we’ll have to wait until December to find out!

I believe that this cyclical conflict of peace and violence, falls and rises, failures and successes, balance is what the core story of Star Wars has evolved into. It used to be the story of a farmboy who grew to become a Jedi Knight and a Rebellion that destroyed an Empire; then it became the story of a Chosen One born from the Force who fell to the dark but ultimately rose back to the light, fulfilling their prophecy; now, the Skywalker Saga of Star Wars is so much bigger than just one or two people: it’s about an entire family and the friends and foes they meet along the way.
