I finished up a long term X-Wing project yesterday.

I love the new T-70 X-wing, but I got thinking that there has to still be a bunch of the older T-65 models still in use, perhaps with reserve forces, flight schools, or with special purpose mods. So I started wondering, what would a TFA era T-65 look like?

My concept was to build a T-65 that would benefit from 30 years of new technology and upgrades integrated into the original T-65 airframe resulting in a sort of beefier, hot rod looking T-65 . My imaginary upgrades include smaller, lighter, and more efficient engines, new long range sensors installed in a larger nose section, different types of blaster cannons on the upper and lower wing with one pair suitable for space combat, and the other pair optimized for ground attack/strafing. I also wanted additional fuel capacity and life support for long range missions in the form of a new fuselage with side blisters.

What I came up with is a minifig scale model with a parts count of just over 900. It features motorized wings using a Technic motor and gear mechanism controlled by a LEGO IR remote. It also has cockpit lighting that comes on when you activate the wing motor. I used parts from a multitude of sources including Star Wars, Technic, and LEGO City sets.

My original plan was to use an existing LEGO X-Wing model as a base for the project, but it soon became clear that if I wanted to motorize it, I would be better off starting from scratch and build a new model from the ground up using my own design. The battery is mounted in the fuselage under the cockpit, the motor and cam mechanism for the wings is under and behind the droid socket, and the receiver for the IR remote is mounted in the tail. Overall length is 16", the canopy opens, the R2 unit is removable, and the nose gear is retractable. Access to the battery is through the lower cargo bay hatch.

    Here she is-

Here are a few more of my custom and original design SW ships-

Another beefed up and detailed T-70. This one is based on the LEGO Dagobah X-Wing-

Here's a concept I came up with for a TFA Resistance Interceptor. This is my own design and build-

And here's the new LEGO FO Transport after correcting some dimensions, and adding some extra details. Based on the LEGO FO Transporter set-

I made a few lego ships, the large on was not completly original and what I mean by that is I took the back half of the Mellenium falcom and built a Star Destroyer type front to it and connected them with a passageway with gear turning engines, took inspiration from a Rouge One concept drawing. the orange ship I made when I looked at the two hull peices and put them together. the yellow one is not built from scratch but it was the Millenium Falcon that I modified. The tank I built just because in about 10 minutes.
