He was one of the best recruits. As a storm trooper, he had exactly one mission - on Jakku - and immediately defected. He was on a single other mission prior to that that wasn't simulation, when his class participated in the murdering of dissatisfied miners and was promoted to storm troopers. Incidentally, that was the first time he made Phasma really suspicious, since he was the only one who didn't shoot. Prior to that, he was her star recruit.

He was. He was a janitor as a part of his training, like in any other military. I bet people don't degrade their real life soldiers when they clean latrines or something similar, but for some reason, Finn is constantly degraded because - gasp! - he was doing his job. It saddens me that one of the most relatable and the bravest characters of the new era is constantly trampled on by supposed fans. Because, saying that the character disappointed you and you wanted better from him is one thing, but constant degrading (and usually far, far, FAR from the truth) leaves nothing but bitter taste in my mouth about this fandom.

I wasn't talking about you anyway, but I too was just stating the (canonical) facts.

This thread just isn't healthy for me and I always say to myself 'leave it alone, don't go there' and then time passes and I think 'maybe things have changed' and then... they do not.

This thread will get better, as soon as Finn's character is getting better. Finn's character potential wasn't used fully after TFA (and even in TFA), this is a fact.

I really hope TROS Finn will be at least as exciting to watch as in TFA.

I like the Finn character. A lively, fun, vulnerable and relatable person. He represents friendship to me and how desperate people are for love and to feel connected. He immediately connected with Rey, and Poe, and it has been wonderful to see their friendship flourish and evolve.

I very much prefer how Finn was portrayed in TFA though. I think the main reason why was due to the relatively low screentime of Finn and Rey together. And, to some extent with Poe. The parts where Finn was with Poe were probably his best parts in TLJ. Nothing against the Rose character. It's just that I think Finn's chemistry with Rey and Poe were wonderful and I'd very much prefer to see more of that.

It appears Finn will hang out more with Rey and Poe in TROS, and if that's the case I think he will do just fine.

    Just my 2 cents.

Except it's not click bait. Someone asks if he will do like Game of Thrones and speak about his feelings on the saga. He says he will. Now the person asking is basically a hater, but it isn't click bait. So you're wrong

It's not a headline news story...it's just some random conversation with a fan.

I think he'll be diplomatic in his honesty. And he's probably going to end up saying a LOT of the things we've been saying on this site (he actually already has in some interviews). But he's not going to trash Disney or LFL. I think it will be a more refined critique with the edges rounded off. But I do expect it to be a critique.

John Basically saying he did not like 8 and he was portrayed as he said in other interviews. But here I understand from his respones on social media he has a crappy end or part in 9 also and he see the gender politics that prevent his character to develop .

It's hard to gauge anything off of John's social media. I mean in the run up to 8, John (being the professional that he is) had me believing that the fears we had about him having a diminished role and presence in the main story were unfounded. He marketed the movie pretty aggressively (even if he didn't like it). So I don't think there's much that we can forecast about 9 based on John's marketing of the movie. I was (and am) still hoping for a much concerted effort on the part of the writers to conclude Finn's story in the ST with some forward leaning relevance (that doesn't rely on his pairing with other characters), agency, and gravitas.

I'm unironically a huge fan of Finn Skywalker theory - to the point that if Star Wars was brave enough to go that route AND HE LIVES, I'd be so happy I wouldn't care about any other character and their fate - but I don't think Finn would remember anything about Luke (especially since he states that he doesn't know his family).

I really liked finn in TFA, in TLJ not so much.
Everytime they showed him on his mission in the movie I wished we would cut back to rey& Luke or Kylo Ren having his temper tantrums

I think if he has a problem with the film its mostly the fact that his whole plot etc was kinda pointless.

I feel exactly the same way. Everytime they showed the scenes involving Finn's mission in TLJ I justed wished it would end fast so we could get back "to the good parts", of Rey, Luke and Kylo. And it doesn't become better with re-watches, but the contrary. It's a pity, because I really liked him in TFA, as I said above. My hope is that we'll get TFA's Finn more in TROS. As JJ is back at the helm, this is highly likely, in my view.

Why? The Luke, Rey, and Kylo scenes were just as bad. There is nothing to be learned from those scenes, and they don't come close to Luke and Yoda on Degobah. The scenes with Luke, Rey, and Kylo are spiritually empty.

I agree. The scenes involving Rey, Kylo (even though he wasn't really doing anything) and Luke were far more exciting.

The difference is Rey, Kylo and Luke did something new and kinda told a carrying on story. Finn's story was just the same as in TFA, not very exciting. Same goes for the whole Resistance part of TLJ. You can really tell that RJ wanted to focus on Rey, Kylo and Luke.
