    As I have noted in the past, there is an entire branch of the Skywalker family that we know absolutely nothing about.

    We know that said branch exists because of the fact that Skywalker was Shmi's maiden name, making it entirely possible for Rey to be descended through a male sibling of hers.

    She can be, but with the title of Episode IX being what it is, with said episode being the ultimate conclusion of the Episodic (Skywalker) Saga, and with her being the protagonist of the Sequel Trilogy as a whole, the simplest narrative avenue is for her to be a Skywalker through Shmi's paternal line.

    I'd rather she's just not a Skywalker at all if that's the case. Anakin's Skywalker bloodline is meant to be legendary, not some name you can pick up like milk at a corner store.

    What I do not understand about theories like this one is... then why not to make of her Leia’s or Luke’s daughter?
    Even more so because in this kind of scenario (that of a cadet line, let’s say) there’s almost any emotional pay off. Surely less than that Rey Solo or a Rey as Luke’s daughter would have put on table, story wise. I honestly don’t see the point.

    Jason Ward and Making Star Wars got a pretty nice shout-out on the most recent episode of the Full of Sith podcast from co-host Bryan Young, who recognized Jason's credibility and the legitimacy of his (Jason's) sources even though he (Bryan) doesn't follow Jason's reporting because he (Bryan) doesn't want to be spoiled.
