So, TFA had an announcement trailer, and RO had a second teaser released during the Olympics....

Otherwise, those two and TLJ all followed the same April teaser, May Vanity Fair story, june/July BTS video, mid-October trailer.

We have D23 this year, but that hasn’t been an event where a lot of trailers are released to public.

I don’t expect us to get any footage until October, just a BTS video at SDCC...I’ve kind of made my piece with those. It’ll have a lot of shots of the cast goofing off in costumes we’ve seen already.

With literally no Marvel movies this fall or early spring, and only Frozen 2 the month before, any chance we get a trailer in mid August & one in mid October? The only other trailer I could see them releasing is the Black Widow trailer so it plays in front of TROS.

TROS won't show up at SDCC. That's confirmed. I guess we'll get a BTS at D23.

I agree. I think we will get some type of BTS video this summer then the main trailer in October. After that there will be an international trailer and tons of TV spots

It'll more then likely be on Monday Night Football at halftime, 'cause you know Nerds love sports.

To be fair, though, the trailers aren't for nerds. Us nerds will see the film no matter what; it's the general, sports crazed public who marketing is aimed at.

Also, there's a lot of cross over. Nerds are not the stereo typical 40 year old living in their parents basement, or the quantum physicist who's socially awkward. Sci-fi and comics have penetrated the main stream, everyone likes it, including sports fans. Peoples interests have expanded and are more accepting of alternative ideas, and crave alternative stories. If not for that expanded interest, hard core nerds wouldn't be getting the number of movies in this genre simply because the money wouldn't be there, there'd be a stigma and no financial lure for top actors and talent in the movie industry and they'd have no budget. I don't know any stereo typical nerds... most I know like to camp, fish, sports, hunt, ect... maybe it's where I live, but the hard core nerd is more of a unicorn then the average person who likes nerdy stuff.

Edit: Of course in retrospect, maybe @Andrew Waples meant the comment more as a joke, in which case I point to my social awkwardness for not identifying that earlier lol. Never said we don't have bits and pieces of the stereotypical qualities of nerds haha.

Yeah, you are not wrong, sir. If anyone had told me, back in the 90s, that Cthulhu would become a universally recognized, pop culture figure/character, I'd have thought them mad!

We truly live in a weird age when the most niche stuff of my child- & youthhood has become an accepted, everyday cultural phenomenon. It is almost as if... my generation grew up, acquired wealth, and infected our children's generation with those corrupting hobbies that hate-mongering Christians warned us about in the 80s! Oh dear... ;)

The full trailer and theatrical poster for The Last Jedi weren't released until October. The Rise of Skywalker isn't going to be at San Diego Comic-Con in July, but they could release a behind-the-scenes sizzle-reel at the D23 Expo in August.

    August 23-25 - D23 Expo
October 4 - Triple Force Friday
    November 12 - The Mandalorian, Disney +
November 15 - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
December 20 - The Rise of Skywalker

    coming soon:
    The Clone Wars Season 7
    Cassian Andor Series

The behind-the-scenes video they released for The Force Awakens did more to hype me up than the actual trailer did. It still gets me going.

    Yeah, I agree with this.

BTS this summer at the Disney Expo, then a long wait until October.

Then, in the 2-3 weeks leading up to the film, a ton of trailers. I might actually go dark then.

Fellow Eagles fan here too. I actually think we have a good shot at going back to the Superbowl this year as we may have a better team than we did 2 years ago. Obviously, it's all about Carson Wentz staying healthy.

I still say we get that 2nd Trailer on Monday Night Football in October.

The question is what in that trailer is the biggest misdirection that fans will lose their minds over? I remember TFA Trailer had Rey crying and holding someone, and it turned out to be Finn. TLJ Trailer had Kylo put his hand out for Rey to join him. TROS will have some big scene that will have everyone freaking out on and probably taking it totally out of context.

I clicked the funny Chewie icon for response, as this is hilarious even though I fall into this weird category of someone who enjoys the NFL and Star Wars.

Just in case info here, Disney owns ESPN and ESPN does Monday Night Football. But as someone else stated below, it's released this way for maximum exposure at the same time being cost effective. Fans will friends who are watching the game (like me) put them on speed dial. I call fans to let them know, then watch the youtube copy over and over and over and over... ... ...

Disney is the Grand King of cross promotion, and that's just more of the same. Amazing how many SW announcements take place on MNF on ESPN (Disney owned) or GMA on ABC (Disney owned). MNF halftime is free airtime for them because they are showing what is essentially a 2-minute commercial for a movie without it actually being considered a commercial for NFL/TV purposes. And while I don't know the exact ratings, I'd guess MNF is probably ESPN's top rated show during autumn.

I'd say there's a lot of overlap in the demographics of MNF viewers compared to fantasy/action/adventure movie viewers. It's not like they are going to debut the trailer during The Lawrence Welk Show. :D
Yeah I try to do the same. Not only are there tons of commercials for the movie itself, but you have commercials from product tie-ins from car companies, cell phone companies, jewelers, etc...
