Wbo is your favorite Legends/EU character?

-You can include characters that are in both Canon and Legends as in the case of Luke Skywalker.

My favorite Legends character is Revan from Knights of the Old Republic (Xbox, PC, iOS).

Since I already provided a great explanation for my passionate fandom I shall place it here:

“Revan is my favorite because represents the redemptive cycle (Revanchist Jedi, Sith Lord, Jedi Prodigal), and is a fully realized Anakin/Vader. What makes his cult following so strong is that each player of Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) choose every line Revan said and every choice he made. So in truth all Revanites, all those who love Revan are Revan, because we were him and our choices made him either Resurgent Sith Lord or Jedi Prodigal in KOTOR. We are Revan, he exists because of us players/gamers. No character has of yet had the fan and the character be symbiotic, be one, and have a story so nuanced and a character so well developed in his mythos.”

    Revan:

A runner up for me for favorite legends character is Mara Jade Skywalker. Mara was the Emperor’s Hand during the Galatic Empire, and her position was assasination and infiltration reconnaissance missions. She eventually was given Luke Skywalker as a target, but invitably fell in love with him and abandoned the Empire. Mara and Luke wedded, and she became a prominate member of The New Jedi Order. Luke and Mara had a son, named Ben Skywalker.

Mara Jade is my favorite. Her development across the EU timeline, watching her go from cold-blooded assassin, to scorned rival to Luke, to begrudging pseudo-hero, and eventually fiercely-loyal Jedi companion was such an awesome development to witness as a reader. She has some of my favorite one-liners, duels, and sentimental moments in the novels, and remains emblematic of how creative and ambitious the EU could be at its best.

Runner-ups include the Solo Twins, Kreia, Darth Sion, Tsavong Lah, Cade Skywalker, Quinlan Vos, and Darth Talon.

Well said! Mara captivated me when I first saw her in the Comics “Heir to the Empire.” She was the first woman to wield a Lightsaber I saw, and sorry Mace, but Mrs. Jade Skywalker had a purple/magenta bladed lightsaber long before AOTC. :p

I am rather worried that Mara is being erased. She was not co-opted into the Sequel Trilogy, and a recent book on SW Ladies omitted her entirely. :(

    We won’t forget you Mara!

    ....Indeed.

I'm not particularly worried, and in fact, I'm actually relieved that Mara doesn't exist anywhere in the Nu-Canon or ST, largely because the prospect of one of the new writers absolutely ruining her character and botching her personality beyond recognition is one I find mortifying.

Besides, if Mara was part of the ST, Luke wouldn't have stayed on that island for long...not after she'd slapped some sense into him.

I’ve always wanted to play that Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith featuring a playable Mara Jade. I have played Mara in “Star Wars: Masters of Teräs Käsi” (PlayStation)

    E019C981-171A-4C99-B0FB-63492E318540.jpeg

That was a classic, SoulCalibur Star Wars style. I wish they would make another SW Fighter.

You have a point that Mara not being implemented in the NU-Canon alleviates the possibility of ruining her character. She can remain as the Force intended, a fiery red head with lightsaber in hand and assassin plans. :D

You should definitely check Mysteries of the Sith out, it's really good. I believe there's a also a cheat where you can play as Mara Jade in the PS2 version of The Force Unleashed. To my knowledge, those are the only official instances of Mara being playable, outside of mods of course.

^I've heard of Masters of Teräs Käsi--both positive and negative--but I've always wanted to try it myself, especially for Mara. Star Wars fighting games aren't common---although there was that Clone Wars Dueling Game for the Wii. Don't know how good that one was. She was also playable in the PS2 version of The Force Unleashed, if memory serves.

    Damn right. <3

Can you still order a new copy of Mysteries of the Sith for PC? I would love it if the whole Jedi Knight Series of Video Games was released on Android and iOS. I do recollect Mara being a skin for the Force Unleashed. You could buy her on Xbox Live store in a package with other characters ro replace Starkiller in gameplay.

The Masters of Teräs Käsi played like Tekken and was difficult if you weren’t Mars Jade or Luke Skywalker. For instance, I tried being Boba Fett and got defeated with ease.

The Force Unleashed on Nintendo Wii had this duel sub-game in the fashion of the SW EpIII: ROTS offical game that played like The Masters of Teräs Käsi. Mara Jade was available as a playable character if you had the cheat code.,

In honor of Mara I want to share a card that was coveted in my collection:

You can get Mysteries Of The Sith and the entire Jedi Knight Series on GOG.com, that's how I play them.

^The lovely Shannon McRandle :3 Although, during my first read of the early books, I always pictured her to look like circa-90's Sharon Stone (which she closely resembles in the Japanese Cover Art), so that's I continue to see her whenever I read.

I agree. I see Mara Jade more in these images:

    8F834340-D7BF-4DA7-A628-95970B118137.jpeg
    8EF35049-3C46-4C4D-A638-B2BC40E117FB.jpeg

Here are some amazing quotes by our beloved Jade:

“Victims run off and hide. Prey runs off and hides. But I'm not a victim. And I'm not prey. I'm the Emperor's Hand. I am the ultimate predator. And it's time for Dequc and Black Nebula to die.”
-MARA JADE DURING HER HUNT FOR DEQUC

“Yeah, it's true. Now tell me who blabbed so I can go cut his head off.”
-MARA JADE'S RESPONSE TO A COUPLE OF JEDI TRAINEES QUESTIONING HER PAST AS AN EMPEROR'S HAND

I love how fiesty and to the point she is. There is no pretension in her words, she cuts through a conversation like her saber. :D

    HANDS DOWN: Mara Jade.

Aside from the fact that she was Luke's love interest/wife, she was the Emperors Hand, and essentially was a contract killer for the Empire....who defected to the light and her true calling.

The VERY THING that disappoints me the most, is that Thrawn got dusted off and became canon but not Mara...such a waste.

Cool to see Mara Jade getting a lot votes! Hands down one of the better things coming out of all those EU years.

But let's not forget Kyle Katarn! He's gotten some similar development over the years, beginning as a Rebel grunt (and Imperial cadet before that), stealing (parts?) of the Death Star plans, discovering his Force affiliation and becoming one of the leading figures of the new Jedi order.

Ah, the nineties. Some amazing games and experiences there: Dark Forces, Jedi Knight, Shadows of the Empire. The memories..

Off topic: Around the release of Rogue One, John Knoll was credited multiple times (even at this year's Celebration) as coming up with the idea for a movie about stealing the Death Star plans. I guess he never played Dark Forces (or read any of the other EU material regarding this event)..

I know right? In this age of finally recognizing strong women, Mara Jade seems like a no brainer. And as you’ve said she has a very intriguing and complex story from Emperor’s Hand to Jedi Master. I would pay double the ticket price to see her in a movie. I would actually love to see her on Disney+ in her own series “Emperor’s Hand,” and even an Anime would please me.

Ah Kyle Katarn, I was him in one of the best SW games for s long time, Jedi Knights II: Jedi Outcast. IMHO Qui-Gon Jinn borrows a lot from Katarn, they both are enigmas, and both are Jedi who don’t fit in the more traditional Jedi mold: i am glad you brought him up, I was just sharing about him for the first time in years with someone.

Another favorite of mine is Ulic Qel-Droms. Who invemted Jedi Shadow, seeking to infiltrate Krath’s ranks and destro the dark siders within. He everually surcommed to the Dark Side, and was a Sith Lord with Exar-Kun, tell he was severed from the Force and became a Jedi Prodigal, leading Jedi to Exar-Kun’s hideout:,

I remeber having a Tales of the Jedi comic and Ulic was a tortured soul like Luke on Ah ch-To, serking guidance in a cave on a Hoth like planet. Most striking at the time was his yellow Lighsaber, which would become the symbol for the Jedi Sentinel.

This is a hard one, I'm torn between Mara Jade and Kreia. I love Mara's development and story arc throughout the post-RotJ era (hated how LotF handled her though), but find Kreia a fascinating character despite her really only appearing in one game. I think Kreia's view of the Force, and her outlook in general, is very unique in Star Wars, but Mara has some of my favorite character development from the EU.

Tre Sana from Into the Void: Dawn of the Jedi. Such an interesting character; everything from his appearance to his past to his motivations and multiple layers of personality makes him one of the most underappreciated non-major character in the whole EU, in my opinion. Does anyone know if he features in the comics somewhere?

Dawn of the Jedi was great. It seemed like John Ostrander and Jan Duursema were the go-to duo when it came to Star Wars comics. Everything they touched turned to gold.

    So many great posts.

As for the question, it is hard to pick. Mara Jade was a character that I didn't like "back in the day" but now I love her. As @Trevor said, that was a missed opportunity. I'd love to see them canonize her, but like @Darth_Nobunaga I'm afraid they'd screw the pooch and mess her up.

My all time fav Star Wars character in any medium is Obi-Wan, so I'd be remiss if I didn't mention him. Darth Maul as well. Finally yeah, Darth Revan. I hope they do a trilogy based on the Knights of the Old Republic (even though I know it won't follow the books/games/etc.. very closely) and I hope they do it right.

I heard Disney is doing an Old Republic Trilogy and the writer said they are going to feature Darth Malak. I only hope this means Revan will be featured as well. :)

Good Jacen Solo. Ben Skywalker. Mara Jade. Vergere. and whoever that Yuuzhan Vong is that helped the galaxy beat the Vong(I think that's what happened),
    Ikrit,
Bane, Malgus, Revan, Sith Emperor Vitiate

Great choices. Most of them I know well, except Vergere, Ikrit, and Vitiate (save for him torturing Revan in Revan the Novel). Can you tell me a little about each?
