I'm so glad that I went to the cinema today to watch Joker.
What a film! A real masterpiece.
Loved everything in this movie: soundtrack, photography, the 70's style, the story, all the cast, the lines...and specially Joaquim Phoenix!
Just went out of the cinema with a smiley face.:D

Gemini Man, I like W.Smith so I enjoyed the film, but I can understand why people dislike it. Films are subjective.

Joker was certainly a movie that wanted to bring up a lot of serious issues in a serious setting. What it wasn't, however, was interested in providing any sort of actual narrative focus on these issues. It just throws it these ideas out there hoping that's enough. It wants to sit in with the "smart" movies but never actually saying anything. Mental illness? Class warfare? Yes these are things the movie identifies but doesn't actually do anything with it.

I'm not saying it needed a hardline stance on any of it, but it needed to have something to say about them if it wanted to invoke them in the way it did.

Bottom line, I feel like the seeds are there for something great but Todd Phillips isn't that guy to deliver it, I guess.

I've read Wells' novel and I saw the adaptation from the 00's starring Guy Pearce but I'd never actually seen the classic version. I wasn't blown away but it was a fun/interesting watch.

For our 1 year anniversary my girlfriend and I went to see...

It's not as bad as it sounds. On our first date we went to see the most recent Halloween movie, her pick, and it just so happened that on our anniversary the original was showing at a nearby theater. I was surprised that was what she wanted to do but I wasn't going to argue. I've seen it MANY times and I've even read the novelizations of the first 3 films but this one didn't really wow me on the big screen. It's probably better at home with the lights turned down.

Little Monsters - On Hulu if you have it. Well worth the 90 minute investment. Lupita is great. Fun zombie romcom.

My Name is Dolemite - On Netflix if you have it. 1000% one of the best movies this year and one of the best biopics in what feels like ages (I haven't seen Rocketman yet so that could change). Eddie Murphy brings it. Everyone brings it really. One of the best performances of the year by a long shot.

Hobbs and Shaw - typical dumb Fast and Furious action with cool cars, explosions, crazy action and a pro-family message. Good fun. I even liked it more than Fate of the Furious.

Dolemite is My Name on Netflix: Eddie Murphy is amazing in it. Its a hard R comedy bio pic that is really funny and has a very positive feel and message to it; a rarity. I loved it.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow - a horror made for TV movie from 1981. I thought it was pretty good. I'm not a big horror fan, but someone told me I should check it out and I didn't have high hopes for it until I watched it.

It's basically about a small town where a mentally handicapped man is accused of raping a girl. He didn't but they decide to take justice into their own hands and kill him. Well that was a mistake. They all start dieing one by one as he comes back as a scarecrow. Although it's only suggested he is a screcrow. They never actually show the killer just shadows, etc. It works though.

Hobbs and Shaw - I've generally enjoyed the F&F franchise's descent into brain out action flicks, but this was a step too far. A paycheck claiming turn by Idris as a cybernetic bad guy, a swathe of poor CG and an admirable, yet tenuous excuse for Johnson to 'big up' Samoa. Subjective Lazarus Rating: 3/10

Zombieland: Double Tap - Sure it had it's moments, but largely felt like an unnecessary sequel to the sublime original. It lacked Twinkie fever and overplayed the 'nut up' line to the point that it even got referenced by Wichita and why they felt the need to ape Shaun of the Dead's accidental meeting of doppleganger characters is beyond me too. It rescues a bonus point for the Bill Murray sequence though. SLR: 6/10

John Wick 3 - Overlong. Mostly pointless. Cool action. Essentially does nothing but rehash the last movie with some new and old faces that serves no actual purpose to the story. The action looked over-choreographed this go round too. Meh. Rainy day renter at best. The Iron Man 2 of John Wick. All set up for a different movie.

Zombieland: Double Tap - A movie that moves at a brisk pace and knows exactly what it is and never tries to be anything else. We're gonna let you spend 90 minutes with people you like and watch zombies get mauled. Plus, it had Elvis. Worthy Halloween romp.

    I was just watching:

    E48F85BF-7A3A-4376-A62D-22C797DBB88B.jpeg

It is still my favorite Prequel. For me it captured the essence of SW and has lots of rewatchability. TPM felt like a different kind of SW film, much like TLJ is very differenf and ROTS is so dark, lacking the optimism and joy that I prefer.

I re-watched the Narnia movie series. Not as good as the books of course, but I didn't watch the films in a while now and just decided to one day. The first one is the best without a doubt.

Being Halloween yesterday was all monster/horror movies. Watched several of my favorites during the day: Halloween III: Season Of The Witch, Halloween (with Rifftrax), John Carpenter's The Thing and Night Of The Creeps. Then later on with the gf I introduced her to a couple of classics she's somehow never seen: Creepshow and Ghostbusters. She loved both but to my surprise she liked Creepshow more.
