Keeping October rolling with another zombie book...

So far the premise is much more entertaining than the execution and while I understand the author wanting to make as many Star Trek references as possible his need to stop and explain every single one is a bit irritating and really dumbs down the dialogue. They're not even that obscure, I'm not a wealth of Trek knowledge and I've gotten almost all of them. If I didn't get one I could just Google it or go to Memory Alpha instead of having the book halt proceedings so characters can explain every reference they make. It also doesn't make sense because the characters all have seemingly encyclopedic Trek knowledge but also need the most basic of Trek trivia explained to them. For instance the main character can name every Klingon weapon in their native tongue and can pick out a character dressed as an obscure alien race that only existed in Star Trek: The Animated series but when confronted with a discussion about the Star Trek Mirror Universe (which has appeared in countless Trek episodes and novels, including one of the most famous TOS episodes as parodied on South Park), he needs to have a plot synopsis recited and details about goatees floated out there before his memory is jogged. If it were a Star Wars book he'd be able to speak Wookie but need somebody explain to him who Chebacca is.

I am currently reading Michael Crichton’s posthumous work “Dragon Teeth” which was a ten year project Crichton worked on about the Bone Wars; when palentology was battlefield for the latest specimens. It is actually riveting despite not being Jurassic Park.

I didn't think it was a bad book but I could see why it was shelved for 33 years and published posthumously. It was Crichton though so I was entertained but I thought it lost focus after a while.

I'd never heard of Wyndham until somebody in this thread was reading one of his books and it sounded interesting so I've had a couple of his novels in my reading queue since then. This one seemed the more interesting even though I've never seen either film adaptations (titled Village Of The Damned) in their entirety. I saw the majority of the 90s one but it was a long time ago, it was a group setting where we were only half paying attention and as a result I remember pretty much nothing. So far the book has been great, started off really awesome for the first quarter then kind of slowed down in the second but appears to be picking up again going into the second half.

It's a nice anthology, that tries to throw in some horror and mystery into the typical "Space Marines grind through hordes of enemies" series. 3,5/5.

Windham’s book is full of fascinating historia of the Jedi and Sith. I especially enjoyed the sections on Darth Ruin, Revan, and Sith Spirits.

The mysteries of the Dark Side lie there within. Interestingly, Kindle (Amazon) does not have an eBook of this, you have to get a hard copy.

A collection of short stories by various authors (several of which have done some EU work) showing what various historical figures did during Wells' Martian invasion. Besides those listed on the cover there's also: Winston Churchill, H.P. Lovecraft, Pablo Picasso, Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, the Texas Rangers, etc.

I am reading a holistic history of Germania that covers everything from art to war and beyond.

    16D97803-3009-4D10-9E76-41F193AC6D7D.jpeg
I have always wanted to learn more about Germania beyond the histories of The Reformation and The Third Reich.

I was recently in Germania and when I read this book it comes alive because I visited Berlin, Munich, Nuremberg, Wittenberg and etc.

Great book. But it requires too much thought and attention, so I'm finishing it after my exams.

I have two books going right now, the first is this thing I found on Kindle Unlimited, some Indie release by a new author...

It's kind of weird and not all that great. It's a difficult book to describe but basically it takes place on a world where video game rules apply (people have HP, get XP, carry things in their inventory, etc) but they're normal flesh and blood people living in an otherwise normal/modern world like ours. But the main character's girlfriend gets kidnapped and he has to set out into the wilds to rescue her in a pretty generic fantasy/adventure story. The best part about the book is the Atari cartridge cover.

    The other book is...

Pretty self-explanatory and very good so far.

I am really enjoying it. I like that its topical, covering say the Brandenburg Gate throughout its entire history; rather than a chronological history that mentions the Gate.

I haven't read a whole lot of Star Wars recently, in the past year I think I've only read Last Shot and Catalyst. As a big fan of the KOTOR games I've been meaning to read this for years and I've had the paperback for at least a year but never got around to it. I'd planned to do a play through of the games to refresh my memory but I played them so much (especially the first one) that I didn't really need to even though it's been at least several years. I'm about 1/3 of the way through and I'm enjoying it so far. There's problems but I've been entertained and enjoyed reading about the characters from one of my favorite games.

I have meant to fully read Revan. My biggest issue pertains to a philsophy in the book about the Force that does not jive with KOTOR quite well.

I'm more than halfway through and absolutely loving it... Instantly became one of my favourite SW novels ever.

Decided it's time to tackle this Chinese classic... will take me a while to go through all four volumes.
