Official website has been updated with some sparse information.

Basic gameplay summary. From other sources we're lead to believe that the gameplay feels similar to other contemporary 3rd person fighters. In the past the lead-dev has described it as "somewhere between the Witcher 3 and Dark Souls." Playstation magazine has described it as similar to Sekiro. The writer of the Game informer article wrote in an associated tweet that he felt the combat was similar in some respects to Insomniac's Spider-Man. All of this is promising, and suggest some degree of planning, and intuition will be needed to be successful.

Basic story summary. Other sources have said one of our primary occupations will be hunting down lost Jedi artifacts.

Implies some degree of open world exploration. I'm not setting my sights too high, but some form of open environment is expected in a modern 3rd person action-adventure. Again, very promising.

Trailer is tomorrow. One of ya'll better start commenting on this stuff cause' I'm starting to feel like I'm hogging the whole thread.

Gameplay wise they kind of are. They're all 3rd person action games that have steered the genre further away from button mashing over the past decade. They all share key elements that favor more methodical combat styles. They emphasis positioning in the environment, intuition, and some amount of planning when dealing with enemy types. Witcher 3, and Spider-Man are surprisingly similar given their differentiating fictional genres. While both are accessible by casuals, they also both involve careful placement, and timing to really master the flow their combat creates. Dark Souls' influence can be felt in this more methodical approach to combat across the genre.

Calling something a 3rd person action game reveals about as much as the label 2d side-scroller, it shows how the camera functions and not much else. The 2d side-scrolling action game Double Dragon is completely different from Golden Axe which is completely different from Trine, despite sharing the same genre. In Golden Axe, spamming the same moves over and over will work 90% of the time. While Double Dragon's combat is all about combos and using the right move on an enemy. You can pick up weapons on the battlefield to give you an edge, there are environmental hazards and the position of the enemy actually matters. Trine's combat is all physics based, and each playable character has a different moveset.

In a similar comparison, The Witcher 3 and Spider-Man both play very differently as well. The Witcher 3's combat is all about preparation. If you join a battle with the right oils and potions you can hack and slash your way through combat without much trouble. But come unprepared and stronger enemies will likely crush you. The game punishes the player for blocking strikes from powerful enemies so dodging is the main course of action to avoid damage. Geralt always tries to keep some distance between him and the enemy and only attacks when there is an opening. As a result, there is also no real rhythm to the combat, quite unlike Spider-Man who's combat is largely derived from the Arkham game series which always had a major focus on rhythm. Like Batman, Spider-Man hops between each enemy effortlessly and his abilities are mostly focused on crowd control.

Even Sekiro and Dark Souls which inspire the most obvious comparisons due to having the same developer have entirely different combat systems. Dark Souls is much slower than Sekiro, valuing patterns and enemy position over the reflex-based combat of Sekiro which requires the player to parry, dodge, and attack with near perfect timing. And I'm not even mentioning the differences that arise from Dark Souls being an RPG and Sekiro being an action-adventure game.

This list of games that Fallen Order is "similar to" tells me next to nothing about how the game actually plays.

Maybe its me, but after seeing the gameplay, this game looks sooooo boring. Almost soulless. There were some cool things, but the combat feels very clunky.

What really excited me, however, was the Battlefront II CT yesterday. Droidekas and Felucia!!! Wish more people played the game. :(

    Pretty pumped for this.

Looks like God of War with a lightsaber.

I am getting kind of tired of everything being a Souls clone, though.

I love this type of game. I am not a person that enjoys online play, so this is right up my alley.

The game looks fun and I'm sure I'll enjoy playing it, but for some reason it doesn't make me particularly excited. It's probably because of how predictable everything about it seems to be - I mean, you kinda know what to expect and what not to expect in terms of both story and gameplay. That said, obviously, it can still be solid and who knows, maybe there will be some surprises after all.

I hope the modding community goes all out on this game. I would love it if someone made a Jacen Solo or Kyle Katarn skin for the main character.

That would make me immeasurably happy.

    https://comicbook.com/gaming/2019/06/15/star-wars-jedi-fallen-order-ship-customization/

I'm honestly surprised why this isn't getting more attention...? I'm surprised that this is in the game. This level of exploration.

"you're going to visit multiple different planets, and for the most part you can decide when you want to visit these planets, all which have their own hubs full of people to talk to and things to do. You can't just teleport to planets though, you fly there on your ship, the Stinger Mantis, which is a new class of ships that's completely canon. There are no loading screens while traveling from planet to planet because flights happen in real-time. In other words, they act as a veiled loading screen. Of course, this means you're going to have some time to kill when you're on your ship, which is why it will have different activities for you to do.

Your ship has interior features like you'd see in a Mass Effect game, though it's unclear if you customize these different quarters. What you can customize though is the exterior. Respawn hasn't revealed this feature in action yet, but it sounds pretty robust.

As mentioned above, you can, mostly, fly to any planet at any time, whether it's to continue the story or just because you want to explore and mess around. In other words, if you stray away from the beaten core path, you could be spending a lot of time on your ship.

What's a bit unclear is whether you can use your ship while on a planet. It sounds like you can't, but Respawn hasn't clarified at the moment of publishing."

I've also read that the level design isn't linear. They are no waypoints, you can come back to planets you have already visited and there are multiple paths to each objective. The levels also reportedly "loop" which could be interesting as it could make backtracking almost nonexistent.

I'm still not completely on board with this game, but it is clear that there is much more to it than was shown in the E3 demo.

So Ian McDiarmid retweeted this article... interesting? He doesn't tweet all that often. So tin foil hat time, what if the Emperor (voiced by Ian himself) is in Fallen Order?

Hands-on impressions seem to be pretty positive. I’ve already pre-ordered and I can’t wait to try it out for myself!

i do really like how his climbing skill is built into the character and not just a fancy Force thing.

Really looking forward to playing this myself. It's been too long since they released a good story based Star Wars-game. I enjoyed the story mode in Battlefront 2 for what it was, but that was more like a short extra-mode in addition to the multiplayer-game. Fallen order looks like a good old-fashioned narrative driven action game. Respawn Entertainment are also a really interesting studio from a game design perspective.

Not gonna lie, I've been looking for spoilers on this game for a long time, but it seems like they're keeping the story under a relatively tight wrap (outside of official announcement details).

Really looking forward to this! Two weeks, and my wife and I will have to fight over who gets the controller ;)

Realistically, we'll probably call a truce and watch Disney Plus.

(November is gonna be great for us Star Wars fans!)

Query, does anyone know if they will make a book companion fo “Fallen Order” as they did with “The Force Unleashed?” I don’t as of yet have a means to play the video game, so I was curious if I could read the story in novel format.

Well they have prequel comics that lead into the game, but no novelization yet.
