I would significantly change Anakin because the prequels were essentially his story. Episode I starts off with Anakin the age he was in Attack of the Clones. I also think that Anakin should've become Vader earlier in the Revenge of the Sith and his fight between Obi Wan should occur in the middle of the movie. Anakin would still have to kill Mace Windu and the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin would have the same result. Anakin in the Vader suit.

Obi Wan would leave Anakin there to die and eventually after Obi Wan assumes Anakin is killed. A mysterious new Sith appears on the doorstep of the Jedi Council to slaughter the Jedi order. Obi Wan then is forced to live with the fact that he let Anakin survive so he could come back to kill all his allies.

I'd have kept Maul on as an ongoing menace and antagonist through the PT, removing the need for the Grievous character to exist. I never was a fan of the cyborg.

I like that idea. I would be fine with Dooku being the main antagonist too just because he appeared to have more of a role with the Sepratists but Anakin's turn to the dark side still could've worked with him killing Maul instead of Dooku.

...indeed, or Anakin taking them both down. Imagine Maul discovering Palpatine was secretly mentoring Dooku too. That would have made for some difficult "sitting down to dinner with the family" moments and all that before Anakin is being pursued as the next apprentice!

    @daRinze

    Good questions!

I guess I was thinking the twins could be born on Dagobah instead of the asteroid Polis Massa, because when Luke first crash lands on Dagobah he states, "Now all I have to do is find this Yoda... if he even exists. Still... there's something familiar about this place. I feel like... I don't know..." It's like Luke has some sort of residual memory of being there. Or, it's just that he feels the Force is strong and familiar to his being on that planet.

As for Padme, I kind of like the idea of her surviving for a bit on Alderaan before truly dying from a broken heart a few years later when Leia is very young. I have to admit, though, that this is less tragic than Anakin being told by Palpatine, his new master, that his love and wife died from a broken heart. The way it plays out in the Saga adds a gravity to Anakin's sorrow and torment. It's at odds with what Leia says about her "real mother" in Return of the Jedi, but that is what Lucas gave us.

In reference to the original question, I'd probably have Yoda be victorious in his duel against Darth Sidious...

    (pwned)(yoda)

...and maybe Anakin not become you know who...

    (anakin) (vader)

...but then that would make the Original Trilogy kind of silly, completely baseless, actually ... (epic fail)

...and so, on second thought, I'd personally prefer to keep things as they are, because, for one thing, I'm also a fan of Dr. Who and time travel fiction and know the implications of messing with timelines :)

In all honesty, while I've maintained all sorts of opinions regarding many different aspects of the Prequel Trilogy, I ultimately accept them now, as they are, because I love them and am grateful for them, debatable faults and all.

And I know no version I or anyone could ever concoct would ever be received as perfect, only arguably improved or lesser, here or there, based on subjective criteria certainly subject to change over time.

Besides, instead of trying to revise the past, I'd personally much rather fans have more fun and get a little more creatively reckless and "look to the future, to the horizon," and invest themselves in the very promising present and future of Star Wars. So much ahead to anticipate, wonder about, and enjoy!

*The past is past, but "always in motion, the future is."

    (yoda ghost)

*As long as the Story Group says so, of course.

OK this is what I thought : you think Luke could be born on Dagobah because that would explain the remember he feels as he lands on it...
... BUT THEN: why Dagobah should be "impregnated with dark side" (as Yoda says to Luke) if the two "children of the hope" were born on it?
Hey! This is just a question. Absolutely no drama if nobody has an answer to it :) :) :)

OK we agree on that, that would fit with what Leia says to Luke about her mother.
Because what GL delivered by the end of episode 3 (Padme's death) is a total nonsense with what he delivered formerly when Luke asks Leia about her mother. :)

Enough with the Jar Jar bashing!
The character is intended for the children, the one who are 7 or even under, in order they can follow the movie too, along with the "great brother" (10 years old) and their parents (28 and 32 years old).
Thus, all the family can enjoy the same movie.
The little kid will laugh when Jar Jar puts a foot in the crap. The teen will laugh when Ben Quadinaros' assistants will be crushed in his reactors. And dad and mom will enjoy the duel Maul-Qui Gon and the golden Royal Ship of Naboo.

Obviously, if one still thinks Jar Jar is intended for adults and philosophy the same manner Yoda is... there always be someone to complain about him!

I'm fed up with that perpetual Jar jar bashing. Grow. Have a child. Look at the movie with him when it will be 7 years old: then Jar Jar's relevance will be revealed!

On that point I agree with you.
Anakin, on his podracer made of recycled elements and stolen garbage, had practically a "tactile screen" in 32 bits colours, with a 1.3Mpx rendering screen, to manage the reactors (remember when one of them breaks down)...
Years after, Darth Vader will wear a complex respiratory powered with only 4 poor buttons, 2 slides, and 2 LEDs lamp: one red, the other green. Dramatic :)

This is the stupidest defense for Jar Jar I've heard. Children had no problem loving the droids, Chewbacca, Yoda and other OT characters without them being the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard. The character is intolerable and indefensible. Bathroom humor has no place in Star Wars, it's the most infantile and lazy form of comedy. And Jar Jar simply hasn't held up as an endearing character. No one is still buying Jar Jar merchandise, yet everyone still loves Chewbacca, the droids, and Yoda. He's an absolute f***up as a character that George Lucas thought was going to be hilarious, but ended up being the least funny thing in the movie.

No drama, of course, this is a forum for the fans!

I guess things in Star Wars just aren't clear cut. Sure they were in Star Wars '77, but ever since then we have been challenged to interpret the Force and the characters more and more in new ways.

One could read Luke and Leia's characters as always having the dark side in them, they just decide not to channel it for selfish reasons. We definitely see Luke succumb to his anger in Return of the Jedi when responding to Sidous' order to attack his father, but Luke commences the lightsaber fight in response to his emotions for saving his friends. Ultimately, though, Luke doesn't let his feelings consume him like they did Anakin in loving Padme. He is a master of self-control and discipline...which, in a way, is what is so hopeful.

The unability to accept other forms of humour different that yours, does not grant you the ability to edict what is SW or not, what is cannon or not, what is acceptable or not.
You only said above what you think : not what is the reality. We are over 7 billions persons down here on Earth. Some could possibly think different, laugh at what you are raging at, love what you hate... and so on.
Everyone in this world is free to enjoy the film at will, to laugh where he wants to laugh, to rage where he wants to rage, everyone is free to estimate by himself if something "is SW" or "is not SW" without having to refer to you or anyone else.
    This is called "free will".

If you are right, one should evaluate a character in relation to the money it brings in derivatives. It is your point of view - and only yours.

Put Jango Fett in TPM. He needs to die in AOTC for the story to progress, but he’s way too good of a character for how little screen time he gets. I don’t really know how to put him in though aside from him replacing the droid Maul sends to Tattooine.

Since the prequels are riddled with issues in several dynamic ways, if I'm reduced to one change to make them more loved, and only one thing, it would be...

Let Lawrence Kasdan take lead writing on them.

If I had a full spectrum of choice, the ideal team for the prequels would be...
    Picture1.png

I think this would have returned a very different trilogy, and would have still been one that Lucas would have been proud of just as well as doing it nearly by himself, since Kasdan and Howard (especially Howard) greatly respect Lucas and his vision, understand his language and art, and know how to push Lucas' ideas in ways that help them form into a more polished form of his fantastical ideas.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

If I could only change one thing, it'd be a toss-up between the full and complete removal of Jar-Jar, or the omission of the cheesy, cringe-worthy dialogue between Padme and Anakin in a vast majority of the 'love scenes'.

Having just re-watched the PT for the first time in well over 5 years, I found Jar-Jar less annoying than the cheesy dialogue, so I'd remove the latter. I utterly detest the interaction between Padme and Anakin in AOTC and particularly ROTS, which is a shame as it is one of the key components to Anakin's story. I just wish the dialogue was a little more real.

I'd change the whole distribution of time. Compress TPM and AOTC into the first film. We didn't need a whole movie of Anakin pod racing and being a child while his future love was older and a queen.

Anakin is aged to adolescence and becomes a padawan in the second half of the first film. He meets Padme, who is dazzled by him rather than sorta rejected, and they fall in love. Make it all more idyllic. He is training as a Jedi, protecting Padme, fine.

The second film is ALL GOOD ANAKIN AS A HERO. It ends with him famous and lauded by all. Obiwan is so proud of himself and only Yoda, who had WANTED to train Anakin carefully but was talked into allowing Obiwan to do it, has reservations. Yoda is there for Anakin, getting worried, when Obiwan fails to teach him Defense Against Palpatine's Dark Arts.

For tension, introduce Palpatine and show Anakin hearing his voice. But make adolescent Anakin more like early ROTS Anakin (which Hayden played very well), heroic, powerful and naively idealistic. He hears this evil voice, feels his symbiont middies being in influenced by some external evil - "everything that kills me makes me feel alive". Maybe one of his kills becomes overkill.

Then the third film progresses like ROTS. I would drop this whole celibacy thing with the Jedi - maybe it is encouraged, but not required. I think the second film could end with a huge, happy wedding between Anakin and Padme.

In episode 3, the Devil is making Anakin start doing things that alienate his friends. Maybe he pushes Pregnant Padme away, as he starts to consider himself as above Obiwan's tutelage... maybe he pushes them into each other's arms, and it isnt entirely clear whether the influence is Palpatine, the giddy middies, or Anakin's own ego. When he finally goes dark, we only need a couple of glimpses into Anakin's basic kindness and goodness. We don't need or want to be beaten over the head with the "good in him". His love for Padme, his affection and care for his droids, and a flash of decency or two toward average people on the street can demonstrate that.

Ixnay on the whole bullied Anakin, and the "he's too old" crap. Don't give him an apparent mood disorder/mental instability and then only do it halfway. I liked what Jj did with Kylo Ren in that regard.

No Qui Gon, though I adore Neeson. Make Obiwan maybe 5 years older, a young master rather than still a padawan, and follow the narrative Lucas had already written, including Padme surviving and being sheltered by the Organas, with Leia. Luke is deliberately sent to the most obvious place, the Lars homestead, bv because Yoda has been protecting the babies, somehow preventing Palpy from knowing about Leia - but Anakin knows.

In short, I would make Anakin a classical epic hero: a powerful hero of noble (at least in Force sensitivity) birth whose downfall is brought about by the hero's own choices.

I note that this altered storyline would change Vader going forward, but it would be more in keeping with Ep IV-VI.

I can't seem to edit. Anakin should have been a classical tragic hero, by Aristotle 's definition, as well as as n epic hero.

More history about different jedi. And a better backstory about Padme and Anakin's relationship though I suppose that's what TCW show was about.
