Pop-up ads are ruining Cantina

    On my mobile, this site is pretty much unusable.
    My default browser, on this site only, goes bonkers blocking pop-up ads.
    They completely stop function anyway, because unless I reload the page, I will continue to be shoved to the top of the page.

    Here's a screenshot showing the number of pop-ups my default broswer automatically blocked.

    This was just in one page load!!

    Please fix your site!!

    Agreed! The forum keeps crashing on me with up to 25 pop ups being blocked on chrome! Once chrome crashes, I need to reload everything.

    25 pop ups seems a bit extreme!

    It does.
    I fully understand and support having ads for revenue stream to keep the lights on, but the ads shouldn't be back-dooring aggressive pop-up ads. That's disruptive, dysfunctional (at this point), and also a security risk (because you, the site owner, can't control what those pop-ad streams are going to do to your customers).

    Until they get this sorted out, because there's no real alternative, if you're on an Android, there's an alternative solution (says it's on iPhone as well, but I can't speak for the quality).
    I'm not in favor of it over the problem being fixed because I don't favor blocking the ad revenue stream The Cantina gets from ads, but between the choice of not being able to visit the site at all and blocking the ad stream system so that I can view the site, I have to choose the latter.

    Look up Cake Browser.
    It's a little funky in how it gets up and running (I just told it to piss off with all of its extra things it thinks are neat that I would want to do), but once you get to the Cantina, you can just mark the site as a "Favorite".
    Cake has an aggressive ad blocker built in. It doesn't just block the pop-ups, like Chrome and default browsers. It strips the entire ad system out from being rendered in the first place so no pop-ups have a chance to attempt to launch in the first place.
    It's relatively fast, though the interface takes getting used to (and leaves a bit to be desired, imo).

    It also gobbles battery life, so this isn't something I would suggest ditching your other browsers for.
    But in a pinch, because we're left no real other solution at the moment until this is resolved by the admins of Cantina (I don't think they did this on purpose - most likely subscribe to an ad service and that ad service has slipped in pop-ups), Cake should be able to get you by.

    Sorry Cantina. I'd rather not bypass your revenue stream, but I kind of don't have a choice here. :(

    I'll look into it. I don't have an issues with them using ads (they got to pay the bills some how) but this issue is something that started recently. It just started to do this to me within the last week or two.

    Same here. This is why I think it's a consequence of one of the subscribed to ad streams inserting pop-ups, rather than Cantina overtly choosing to insert pop-ups.

    This may help with troubleshooting but, I notice this only happens on the mobile version of the site. When I visit this site on my desktop computer, I don't have the issue. Using Google Crome on both devices.

    Yes, I was getting them all day yesterday on my work computer, but not here at home. Win 10 and Chrome on both machines for me...what OS and browser are you using??

    I'm getting something similar on phone
    Although a small X person just above the add so I can close it.
    However that only last for the page you are viewing as soon as you go to a new page the add reappears

    OK guys, let me know if in the following days you will be getting any pop ups on your phones, apart from the official one that is a one time thing which will ask you to agree about your privacy and it will disappear. Then in few days time I will fully stop the ads from one of the companies we are using and see if this continues. The amount we make from these ads is barely enough for the monthly fee for our servers but I won't have problems shutting them down altogether.
