(Opinion) Rogue One is peak Star Wars and a brilliant prequel to the OT.

To me this is the best Star Wars film of the lot of them. I love the OT, but to me this movie was perfect. The only nitpicks were the CGI Tarkin and Leia still looked CGI - the technology is close but no cigar yet. The characters were believable, the pace was good, the visuals were amazing, and the story just worked. It was sad and beautiful. I only wish Gareth Edwards could have done some of the ST instead of having RJ's mess.

That would be great. A Solo 2 film wouldn't have to carry weight like Rogue One did. Plus it could be a more free movie separated from the saga.

Rogue One is weird... Weird, yet great.

The writing is very odd, even weak in some regards (Jyn being the most passive protagonist I think I've ever seen and the Eadu sequence being pointless and contrived), and few of the performances are really noteworthy (with Tudyk, Yen, & Wen being strong exceptions).

Nonetheless, R1 has tons of that inexplicable charm that animates the best films through the ages into something far better than their parts. I'm talking about that weird awesomeness that elevates, as an example, basically ALL Schwarzenegger movies in the 80s and Big Trouble in Little China and so on, into greatness quite contrary to their "internal" quality (or whatever). It goes to show that a film doesn't HAVE to be good to be great! :)

Of course, R1 also has a lot of love for the SW franchise it exists within, and how LFL & Edwards handled reusing cut material from ANH, and yes, even how they did the CGI versions of Tarkin & Leia, just oozes with love and passion for SW :D

Despite its problems, there is something magical about Rogue One that you just cannot plan for in a movie... and I love it so! (leia)

I could see them doing Solo 2 and just putting it only on Disney Plus. Not sure they will though, as it appears Iger moved LFL away from the "anthology" films, but putting one (or more) on the streaming service? Probably a good idea. Will they do it? Hmmm... I don't think so. I loved Solo and would love to see more, but I just think the fact that it flopped means that's all we will see of Solo.

One of my favorite aspects of RO was seeing Vader in his suite go full rage on the rebels:

Loved Rogue One. It was a great story and it made me appreciate A New Hope all over again. Almost felt like it could've came out in summer of '76.

I'm a big fan of "Rogue One", but I don't regard it as the peak of the Star Wars franchise. Nor does it remind me of "A New Hope", even if it is set right before the 1977 movie.

Rewatching Rogue One on Disney+. Its brillant! I can say I love it more than TLJ and Solo, and possibly more than TFA.

Number 5 in the franchise for me but that does make it peak Star Wars for me too.

    Empire
    Last Jedi
    Star Wars
    Return of the Jedi
Rogue One and I'll put The Mandalorian in this space too are my cream of the crop.

I'm not sure where Edwards ends and the other guy begins. The combo worked but without being behind the scenes it is tough to know who is who credit wise.

Also, there was no mess Johnson is the most gifted director the franchise has seen so far including young George Lucas. Not story writer/idea man but director.

K2 is an awesome droid, Raddus is a badass and true hero of the Rebellion, Hera is mentioned + plus The Ghost and Chopper have appearances, badass blind guy with a stick, best space battle ever, brutal and well-choreographed action/fights, gorgeous settings and incredible visual effects, epic musical score, underground/smuggler/espionage type stuff, Baze and his big gun, Bodhi, Leia getting the plans, Death troopers and their weird garbled voice, loads of cool droids, aliens and weirdness, Doctor mangled-face and bum-chin telling the protaganists to watch themselves.....I could go on and on.

I rank it right after the OT (ahead of the PT and ST), but I still like Solo alittle bit more. The one phrase I use for R1 to describe to friends: Solid SW film. It's just a solid SW film, that has an adult tone all the way through and had the guts to kill the whole cast. I like Solo more because of the characters, but that doesn't diminish R1 because the story better than Solo's. The PT & ST movies have their upps and downs (The problem is the downs REALLY bring the movies down), but R1 is just solid the whole way through.

Why is the one movie so different from all other SW movies (no opening crawl, all the good guys die) the most "SW" of all the Disney era movies?

Don't forget the "good guy" who shoots an ally in the back just because he can't think of a way to help him.

"Sorry this is too hard, I'll just murder you in the back and then later brag about how dedicated I am to the cause of freedom."

If you are keeping track, force choking is bad, shooting people in the back who are helping you with your cause is totally fine! The insistence by some to make SW jump on the moral relativism train, makes me sad.

I think Rogue One is only okay, I think it suffered from rewrites, I think the very first trailer wound up being better than the film. I like Episodes 7 and 8 better than RO, but would watch RO any day over ROTS.

This woman likes Rogue One, likes it a lot, but she also dissects some of its flaws and openly muses about how some of the later rewrites and reworking of the film may have actually damaged it...

Also FOO on Star Wars films that caption their locations, instead of providing real immersion. It's pretty lazy in my book, not particularly artful either.

Humble personal opinion only, your mileage may vary.

Pretty sure that scene was supposed to make you feel uncomfortable. That's kind of the point. It's not "totally fine", it's showcasing some of the messed up tactics (essentially terrorism) that the early Rebellion struggled with.

Foreshadowing for stuff like Saw's arguably even more brutal tactics and obviously Cassian's eventual conundrum with assassinating Galen.

It's character growth, in a movie that people like to try and claim such a thing doesn't exist.
