It's such a let down compared to the books though. Hyperviolent and just bonkers crazy. This was so tame in comparison.
It's like if they made Game of Thrones and didn't include any of the beheadings.

I tried to watch The Witcher last night, but that first episode is largely a big mess. My understanding is it gets better, but I dunno if I'll stick with it.

Last full on movie I watched was HER, it was my second viewing of the film and to my humble brain, an utterly superb film.

With the bad news last year about Pegasus Bridge being cancelled (about the British 1st Airborne Div ops on D-Day) it is good to see moviemakers continuing to focus on WWI and WWII (Dunkirk, Midway and 1917).....hope the trend continues

I've just seen the Fe Terminator: Dark Fate and, oh boy, was this an underwhelming piece of... the frachise. Better that Genisys, but barely anything isn't.

VFW - a movie soaked in 80s genre nostalgia in the best way possible. Director Joe Begos takes flavors from 80s slashers, John Carpenter and 70s exploitation and mixes it all in the modern syrupy goodness. Hyperviolent. Brutal. Offensive. Fun. It's such a ridiculously simple flick with a tight 90 minute run time that wastes 0 of those 90 minutes. The casts boasts of a whose who of "Oh blast that guy!" from the 80s genre circles. Stephen Lang, Fred Williamson, Martin Kove, William Sadler, David Patrick Kelly and George Wendt. Yes that is right. Norm from Cheers. The premise: A group of war vets, mostly Vietnam and Korea with one modern soldier, are holed up in their local VFW bar having a fun night when they come into a situation leading to a stand against drugged out mutant punks. If that alone doesn't sell you on the 80s camp goodness, nothing will. Loved it. A future cult classic. And it knows it and revels in it.

Watched this Saturday with my sister and a mutual friend of ours (...my sister's friend who talk to on occasions, but has hung out with our family enough that I feel comfortable calling her a friend). It was fun watching it again, and I liked it a tad more this time around. My sister and the friend enjoyed it, and my sister didn't fall asleep once! We originally wanted to watch Spider-Man: Far From Home, but once we found out that Disney Plus doesn't have it (FFH is a Sony movie after all) and neither do Netflix or Hulu, we settled on this. Into the Spider-Verse was a close second, but my sister HATES cartoons.

Watched this one on Sunday. It had been on my radar for a while, but the friend from the above mentioned she really enjoyed it as we were deciding on what to watch. So I decided to sit down and watch it, and it's a sweet, sappy movie that covers some of the realities of fostering pretty well from what reviews and customers say. I'll definitely buy this one someday.

Next on the list is Harley Quinn tomorrow afternoon if I have time. I almost went out to watch the movie right now, but I have one more book to read before March to stay on schedule, and only two days to do it. Fortunately it's a short book. Sonic the Hedgehog will be watched on Saturday or Sunday.

(At the time of me starting to write this review,) I just got home from seeing this 10 minutes ago!

Overall it ranges between a 7.5/10 and an 8/10 if you like the content and style of the movie, which isn't for everyone (it's super heavy on the Girl Power, and every single male character in this movie over the age of 12 is either a misogynistic Buttface or an abusive Buttface...and more often than not, both). I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's not without it's gripes.
This movie is the weird love child of Deadpool (in that it's an R rated superhero comedy that breaks the Fourth Wall), Guardians of the Galaxy (ensemble superhero movie in which all of the characters that team up are introduced and team up within the same movie), and a third movie I can't think of right now. Thrown in the fact that it's the spin-off/unofficial sequel to Suicide Squad, then you've got a weird, wild ride.

The acting in this movie was well done, and the action was really fun (Harley and her bat are becoming just iconic - if not more so than Harley and her hammer). To simplify the plot, Cassandra Cain is in possession of something Black Mask wants, and Harley Quinn is in possession of Cassandra Cain. There are character motivations, double crosses, and vengeance-fueled backstories as well, but the overall story is pretty simple.

For the characters, there's both good and bad to get into: Harley Quinn - Harley has undergone a massive remake of herself in the past few years. In the comics, in videogames such as Telltale's Batman, in her own cartoon (which is HILARIOUS), and now in the movies too. She's become a sort of rallying point in the superhero world for feminism, and I am here for it! But enough about that, here Harley is trying to move on with her life without the Joker, but comes to realize that not a lot of people actually LIKE Harley. She's offended a LOT of people, and when the word's out that she doesn't have Joker's protection, it's an all-out attack to see who can kill her. She's...coping, and by the end of the movie she's better, but not fully healed. That being said, rooting for her is always a mixed bag.

Rene Montoya - She's the Team Mom, in both age and morality. And she's got a good heart. The problem lies with the fact that the movie is told mostly from Harley's perspective, and that means that if you're not a criminal or an associate of one, you're a good guy. And good guy's are stupid, dorky, and overall incompetent. So Rene, while still being competent, isn't nearly as much so as the other characters in the crew. She's also the butt of many jokes and fight scenes, which is annoying since she's the one with the third-most screen time.

Dinah Lance (I almost typed Laurel lol) - She's easily the best character in the movie. I liked how they did a racial lift on Dinah but kept the essence of her character the same. She's morally grey, but leans towards the light. I'd call her a Knight In Sour Armor towards the beginning and grows to like that armor towards the end. Her character is the second best Black Canary I've seen (the best will always be the Justice League cartoon version, although the Young Justice version is pretty good too...), and I wouldn't mind if she got her own spin-off.

Huntress - Oh Huntress...all I could think of was "Season 1 Arrow, but is now a girl," anger problems and all...which really doesn't help because Huntress SHOWS UP in Season 1 of Arrow! Anyways, she's angry and out for vengeance, crossing people off her list with smudged...paint? eyeliner? ...on her face. All she needs to do is say "YOU HAVE FAILED THIS CITY," and the parallels would be complete. I was too amused by her character.

Cassandra Cain - This is the character I had the most issues with. Cassandra in this movie is a foster kid and highly skilled pickpocket. The only thing she really has in common with her comicbook counterpart is her name and ethnicity. To me...this didn't feel like Cassandra Cain. This felt like they needed Harley to have someone to protect who's related to the Batman name and Cassandra Cain was the most easily identifiable person. Would I have preferred another character/name for this role? Absolutely. Is this a major critique on the movie? Not really, since it doesn't affect the movie at all. Outside of the fact she has little to nothing in common with her namesake, I thought she was fine in the movie. She's a kid and the McGuffin, what else do you expect?

Again, this movie is very enjoyable if you like these types of movies. If not, you won't be hurt from skipping out on this one...unless it has major ties into James Gunn's Suicide Squad 2. Do I think it's better than Harley Quinn's cartoon...? ...No, it didn't make me laugh nearly as much as the cartoon does, but they're both the same character and exploring the same ground in different enough ways that it doesn't bother me.

5 Feet Apart - About two teens who have cystic fibrosis and basically live in the hospital. The two begin to fall in love but are not allowed to touch each other. It was a rollcoaster of emotions and I thought it was good.

Remember Me - Starring Robert Pattison and Pierce Brosnan. This movie came out in 2010 and never heard of it. I watched it on ShowTime. About a young man who lost his brother to suicide and he tries to protect his little sister who believes her father hates her. He gets into some trouble and gets beat up by a cop. Then goes out with his daughter who he had no idea she was. She then moves in with him and it pisses off the cop.

I thought it dragged too much and was borderline boring. But in saying that it has two great scenes. One involves him confronting his dad about his little sister. The second is when he escorts his sister to school after she was bullied at a birthday party and they cut her hair and he gets angry at her schoolmates laughing at her. Throws a fire extinguisher through a window. It also has the most out of the blue ending of a movie I think that I've ever seen.

The Call of the Wild - It's a fine little flick. Should have probably used real dogs for budget reasons but the CGI dogs aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be. I appreciate they aren't Lion King photo-realistic since they are somewhat anthropomorphized in a few scenes (no talking but they emote a lot). Harrison Ford and Omar Sy are quite good in this. It's fun when Ford is clearly into the role. They clearly family friendlied up the story as well but it still holds a lot of the notes of London's original tale. Dan Stevens hams it up quite lovely as the villain. John Powell (How To Train Your Dragon, Solo) scores the movie and it's a very good and appropriate score. The potential for a great movie is in here but instead it plays more like a quality family matinee movie that'll get dog lovers teary eyed more than have you on the edge of your seat. It's a solid 7/10. If you don't want to pay, it'll be on D+ soon and there it's definitely worth a watch.

-Spies in disguise. Not bad fro a cartoon, I liked Will Smith and Tom Holland.
-1917. I don't like war movies but there was not a lot in cinema, so I had a go. great story but I wouldn't watch it again.
-Dolittle. Horrible, I didn't like the movie at all.
-Sonic the Hedgehog. Not bad, I saw worse movies based on video games.

I saw 1917 a few weeks ago. In fact I saw it in the IMAX cinema which is only a few yards from one of the locations used in the film.

The old Govan Graving docks in the centre of the picture is where they shot the scene where
the main character crosses the broken bridge and comes under fire
and the IMAX Cinema is in the Glasgow Science Centre complex in the top left area of the photo.

Dark City. I love the stylised Gothic aesthetic. The cheesiness of the dialogue. In many ways, it reminds me of the supernatural and science fiction comics I read in my early teens. The idea of aliens using deceased bodies and wanting to gather information on the human soul is all kinds of awesome.

Watched A Knights Tale last night. I'm fascinated by films like this; it ain't particularly good, but by the Whills is it charming and a whole lot of fun! The fact that films can be great despite not being good is very cool and interesting :)

I'd love to see Lowery in the SW universe.
He's made the best Disney live-action adaptation and all went well so he probably has a good relationship with them

I like fun characters and good stories (don't even need to be very original and fresh - I mean, I like Star Wars, heh heh). I'm not so much interested in awesomely-awesome-awesome-with-a-sidedish-of-awesome, however (which is another reason I've grown out of your favorite franchise. When everything is turned to 11 all the time, the entire thing becomes little more than a dumb parody :p But that was an off topic remark. Sorry).

You say that but Warhammer 40K is more like a satire and a black comedy. Arguably, it is not meant to be taken too seriously. Imagine a certain lawnmower scene from Brain Dead combined with The Deadly Spawn and something from Cybercity Odeo 802 or Robocop. That is Warhammer 40K.
