SPECULATION I wonder, will Johnson's trilogy have Jedi?

I feel that Jedi/Sith extravaganza will fall to D&D side of SW. Judging by the reactions (both positive and negative) to the last season of GOT, they know their fan service.

I believe Rian will have the Force in his trilogy, because that's one of the cornerstones of SW worldbuilding (and he said he wants to find the essence of SW), but no Jedi. We have seen different schools of Force thought and Force users, so there is no reason why he couldn't come up with something new and still be within Star Wars boundaries.

I think D&D will probably go the the past and have plenty of both Sith and Jedi, Rian will go for the fences.

i'm inclined to agree: he'd be better off exploring the more mystical/esoteric sides of the Force anyway.

I know some of you did not enjoy the Canto Byte scene, but I found it to be the most visually original sequences in TLJ. I, for one, would not mind if RJ’s trilogy centers around those three very-cute kids, with Broom Boy learning to focus his force powers, at the same time they are working as slaves for the horse races. This shares some similarities to Anakin Skywalker’s situation in TPM.

Gah! I'm so stoked for this series and we don't even have a clue what it is going to be about yet! I need to know more! :D

    The wait is long.... (r2-d2)

Why confine it to a trilogy though? Why not a sweeping epic series like Blade of the Immortal, Vagabond, Guin Saga (cue never-ending story), Vinland Saga, Ubel Blatt, Lodoss War or Berserk? Something with epic set pieces yet at the same time capable of telling intimate and personal series. And something oh deliciously dark.

Lucasfilm film would be wise to stop doing trilogies. Having to restart a new set of characters every 3 films is kind of dumb. Empower creative people to be creative. If they make something that people don't like then move on to something else. If Rian Johnson or someone else creates a new beloved character make as many movies as the public will support.

I agree. The trilogy follows a three act structure overall, and works well for simple storytelling, at least at a baseline level. That's probably why it's been stuck to so much.

I strongly disagree that trilogies/3 Act structures are simple. They are powerful and story telling-ly efficient as the structure follows good tension curve while simultaneously allowing an episodic focus within each act. The 3 Act structure is common because it is very strong.

The point about re-booting the heroes is valid, however.

There are certainly other ways of doing movie structure, through, and the only reason to expect a trilogy from Johnson is because "trilogy" is what was originally anounced and what has been consequently confirmed a dozen or so times. Still, things can change.

I'm not against more trilogies as long as there is a plan from the beginning with a coherent story running through the three films, for me this is where the PT succeeds and the ST fails.

If RJ can create some beloved characters then I do also like the idea of a series of films, it works for Marvel and there is no reason it can't work for Star Wars.

I think so and I hope so. But I would rather it take place before the Skywalker saga.

Does anyone actually think this is still going to happen?

Rian Johnsons trilogy is the most concistantly confirmed, re-confirmed, and re-re-confirmed not-yet-i-production project that SW has ever had. There are, beside general pessimism and internet troll "reusurch", nothing to indicate that the project is dead. I can't be arsed to do the entire yes-but/no-but circular argument again, but until there is ANYTHING to indicate otherwise, I will assume the project is still on, as it were in November, as it were last summer, as it were last April, etc. etc.

When you do a search for his name on the site (https://www.starwars.com/search?q=rian+johnson), there is NOTHING - and I mean NOTH-ING - about the trilogy since it's initial announcement, and the last story that even mentions him at all is two years old. That's not trolling, that's just looking at facts.

Yet the only the only people that have been fired is the GOT guys. That's not trolling, that's just looking at facts.

Pointing out there has not been any news in almost 3 years since the initial announce does not = demanding constant updates. This is a classic Strawman.

You know how long Obi-Wan has been in development? Ewan knew it was a thing for four years before it was official announced.

Saying it isn't happening when the only official news there is says it is happening, is lazy trolling.
    It may not happen.
    It may still happen.
