I think it’s interesting how badly the media and a certain element of the “fanbase” want to portray Solo as this massive, unforgivable, unredeemable flop.

Yeah, it made a lot less money than other Star Wars movies but it had a lot of competition that summer and STILL made more than the first Captain America at the box office.

I don’t remember Captain American’s sequels getting cancelled and calls for Kevin Feige to resign...funny that.

The difference is, Captain American still got sequels and the chance to build on the story. Solo deserves that too. The whole film has an origin story feel like the 1st film in a trilogy. By the end, all the pieces are in place for some really fun Han and Chewie underworld adventures. For me, a Disney+ show is a no brainier...if Cassian Andor can have his own show, surely Han Solo can! :p

I have to agree with the original post. When I first saw this in theaters, with a friend on release day, I walked out feeling less than happy with it. Upon more recent re-watches, thanks to streaming services and again on Disney+, I found myself becoming more fond of the film and certain aspects of it. You see this wide-eyed and hopeful kid get dragged through the proverbial (and literal) mud, coming out a different person, for better and worse.

One thing that still gets to me is how Han established his last name. It's too cheesy for me, and I love cheese.

I'm glad the film has it's fans, but rewatching Solo didn't do it for me, Solo basically makes his arc in anh redundant and that's what I really don't like about it.

I have watched the movie 4 times now. It's classic Star Wars with good humor, drama, and action. The meeting of Han and Chewy, I felt, should have been a little powerful, but I have loved Chewbacca since I first saw him many moons ago, so I am biased. Ford and Ehrenreich just don't sound like each other, which is where I think a lot of people(including myself) get a little hung up on the portrayal of Han Solo. But absolutely YES to another Solo please.

That's fair, but the Han we got in ANH is different than the Han we had in Solo. The Han in ANH already was more self-serving by nature, unlike in Solo, where it was more by necessity. He was more innocent, hopeful, a dreamer. If anything I would argue that by the end of ANH, Han became more of the person he once was.

Han showing up to save the day was a surprise for what we knew of him in ANH, as to where him helping Enfy and her people in Solo was expected, as we've seen from the person he is throughout that film, because the personality of both characters are different, even if the arc itself played out somewhat similar.

This. + the movie feels like a checklist. It's cool that there are people who enjoy this movie, but for me SOLO is probably the only Star Wars movie I won't rewatch.

Solo is the only Star Wars movie I didn't see in a theater. I saw Black Panther that week instead.

It's also the Star Wars movie I've watched the least. I've seen it twice. Every other Star Wars movie is double digits, some might even be triple digits.

I still think it's unoriginal. Train robbery movies have been done to death in Hollywood already. I expect Star Wars movies to lead, not to follow. And the characters were pretty weak. Draydon Voss was just a bad character, both too boring and too stoopid to be a convincing threat. Enfys Nest contributed nothing. And the big reveal when Beckett, who openly worked for Voss through the whole operation, was secretly working for Voss too? And Han's girlfriend saves Voss from Han just to turn against Voss five seconds later? It was a weak story, and the plot twists didn't add a thing to the plot, they just created plot holes.

But the acting was good, the f/x were good, and Lando's droid was a strong character.

Overall? The story definitely needed a second draft.

When I saw Solo in theaters I really liked it a lot. I just rewatched it the other day for the first time since theaters. I .... didn't like it very much at all. I can't quite put my finger on why. Why did I like it so much at first? What changed watching it now? But yea, I watched the OT, R1 and Solo. My appreciation for the OT increased, I'm still 'meh' about R1, and my appreciation for Solo greatly decreased. *shrug* Why do I not remember L3 being so obnoxious and weird the first time around? Why did I not pick up on Glover doing a poor imitation of Lando? Why did I not mind Han being the least capable character in his own movie?

Only thing I can think of is maybe since I didn't know the plot twists and key events the first time I was really focused on seeing what happened next rather than analyzing all those details??? I dunno, that's my best guess. I'm sure I'll watch it again one day.

    Nailed it.

Chewie is definitely my fave character in the film, and the only character I Don't like is L3.

The whole movie is just about my favorite scene.

I need to give it another watch (before Christmas is the goal), but I think its weakness comes from the fact that the BTS was nuts, and that the story feels like the three part opener to a series.
    I don't want SOLO 2, I want a SOLO Series.

Very much this! Interesting new characters, complex old ones too!, their stories, the events of the time, crime lords and syndicates, the birth of the Empire - and the fledgling Rebellion. The 'everyday person's attitudes' to these events and to the Jedi or Republic before the Empire as well.

I would love to see the notes for 2nd part and 3rd part of the Solo trilogy (the Solo actors have mentioned they had options for a further two films, if this is correct?); the ideas for this, the progression of events leading up to Rogue One or ANH.

Maybe we will see some of this in the Cassian or Obi-Wan series? I hope so :)

I must get around to watching Solo again soon.

I may feel different when I finally rewatch it, but I’ve seen it once.. maybe twice? I’m in a similar boat of “yay, checklist film” mixed with “meh, heist film,” and my motivation to rewatch it is just..not there unless I’m already planning on watching the rest. Probably doesn’t help that I’m more a Jedi and soldier person.

like NinjaRen, i’m glad people enjoy it, and it adds to the “there’s something in Star Wars for everyone,” but that’s my take
