I guess he felt he wasn't up to ruling the empire on his own and decided to give Sidious a false sense of security having ultimate power.

I guess it might have been to save Padme but If Mace Windu captured and killed him Anakin Would have eared his trust and probably the rank of Master.

I agree with Mace that it was NECESSARY to execute Palpatine. He proved to be too dangerous for imprisonment as he had the politicians brainwashed. Many weren't so trusting in Palpatine out of choice but as we know out of Sith influence. For the survival of the republic and the jedi, Sidious had to be slain. So yes I think Anakin should have cut down Sidious.

But obvious Anakin was enticed deep down inside to be taught more powers, along with his desperate need for padme

I feel that he didn't kill him because he was still very conflicted about where his loyalties lied. On the one side, if he killed Sheev, he would be held as a hero by the Jedi, probably given the rank of Master and fulfilled the prophecy of destroying the sith. But. That would mean that there may be no wat to save his beloved Padme because of Sheev bated him with false knowledge about being able to save her.

So tell me, why didn't Anakin just kill him right there? Everything would have been so much more different, including Anakins chance to fall to the dark side, and even the possibility to save Padme from death.

From a certain point of view, yes, he should have killed him. But, palapatine was way more powerful than him and he would have killed vader if he tried to kill him.

The jedi is a religion! In that religion, honor is very valuable. If Anakin killed Palpatine, it wouldn’t have been honorable. It just wasn’t the Jedi way. Like when Anakin killed Dooku. He shouldn’t have, but he did. This contributed to his turn to the dark side.

He was only tricked that he could do so. But yes, that was his main motive to become a sith.

Thank you for that! It just made my day!

Interesting opinions here. ROTS is one of my favorite Star Wars movies and I've seen it many times. I never got the impression that he didn't kill Palpatine for any other reason than saving Padme. If he hadn't had any dreams I think he would have killed him. Or, if he had the dreams and Palpatine didn't mention the ability to save people from dying, I think he would have killed him. My opinion is that it was all Padme and not "doing the right thing". If he put the pieces together, he knew that Qui Gon, the man who freed him from slavery, was dead because of this man. All the Jedi dead on Geonosis were dead because of this man. He would also have realized that Dooku's attempt on Padme's life was Palpatine's doing. Without the possibility of Palpatine's knowledge saving Padme, I think Palpatine would have died in his office when he revealed himself as the Sith lord.

Well, technically Nute Gunray’s doing. “What about the senator from Naboo? Is she dead yet? I am not signing your treaty until I have her head on my desk.”

So: Nute gets Dooku >> who then gets Jango >> who then gets Zam >> who then gets a droid >> who then gets a couple millipede thingies >> to kill Padmé >> so Palpatine could have a bunch of robots for his secret clones to fight . . . . . . the perfect plan

True! But I think anything the apprentice does can be considered an extension of the master's will. I'm glad you mentioned that quote from Gunray! He never got Padme's head on his desk yet it appears that he still signed a treaty with Dooku. At least by the time of ROTS he was considered a leader of the separatists. I wonder if there's some canon explanation for that.
