The first time I saw AOTC was in NYC Time Square, AMC 25 on opening day, with a theater full of Star Wars fans dressed up and cosplaying their favorite Star Wars characters. Lightsabers on in the theater were spectacular sight, fans waving sabers back and forth. It was a great day to be a fan. People gripe about the dialogue of this film, the dialogue makes them cringe, for me its one of my favorite Star Wars films. Films are subjective, to say the least.

Its ok. The film is pretty good. I actually like that love love theme during the film. Across the Stars is also quite the theme. Also I do indeed love that Obi Wan and Anakin and Yoda vs Dooku fight. And I just love the Clone Wars! :)

I love AotC even though, in the overall pantheon of the Skywalker Saga, it ends up being tied for fourth place with The Empire Strikes Back.

I'm actually rewatching the movie as I type this, in fact, and am just past one of my absolute favorite scenes in the entirety of the franchise, that being the fireplace scene on Naboo.

That scene is brilliantly performed by both Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen, and is made even more perfect by the fact that, despite its resolution, it describes the very situation that Anakin and Padme end up putting themselves in by the conclusion of the movie.

Dude... TESB is ranked of the best sequels of all time along w/ Godfather 2, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Star Trek II, Aliens and Superman II...

To say its tied for the 4th best SW movie...... arrggh! nevermind!

    Cheers, KH

Different people like Star Wars for different reasons. What you like the most could be what someone else likes the least.

ESB is far and away my favorite, but that’s because it leans toward the elements I value in story: interpersonal character relations, development and motivations. If that’s not what someone else values, then it makes sense it wouldn’t be very high on their list.

I don't have to justify my ranking system, but I will.

I love every single Star Wars film, period, and more or less consider all of them to be masterpieces. However, there are elements that I believe elevate certain films above the others, which is why I rank them.

Yes, The Empire Strikes Back is a great film, but as great as it is, I consider The Rise of Skywalker, The Last Jedi, and Revenge of the Sith to be better than it, and also better than Attack of the Clones, which I consider to be qualitatively on-par with it.

Different generations like SW for different reasons.....

What do you folks call my age group... the G1 or OGs? (OG sounds cooling imo)

Its hard to perfectly explain it but I was around back when SW and TESB came along and kicked the 80s in the face.... with a steel toe boot. Which is a reason why older fans frown upon the PT and ST... the OT was lightning in a bottle which could never have been duplicated.

No need to... it's your opinion. Might not exactly agree w/ it but respect/appreciate different views.

People who talk, chat, text or kick the seat are annoying.....I would have lost my mind if a bunch of cosplayers were playing SW during a movie.

It was a fun time being surrounded by true Star Wars fans ( the guys/nerds in the theater were like I can see Padme's nipples in that white suit).

I remember going to see Lord of the Rings and the AOTC Trailer came on no one reacted. TPM was such a disappointment that people didn't care about Star Wars anymore. Everyone was excited for LOTR, my best friend became a LOTR fan and gave me his Star Wars merch that he could not sell on eBay.

When the Clone Wars animated movie came out he called me up and asked me did I go out and see it, I said no cuz the critics said it was awful. I eventually saw it on TV. No one in the theaters wants to get excited for Star Wars anymore, if a trailer comes up on the screen everyone is quiet. Its a shame. No one got excited for Rogue One, Solo, or TFA when the trailers came on the screens before the actual film.

Kathleen Kennedy better gets her act together. She's an iconic producer but what the blank is she doing? The Mandalorian is the only Star Wars thing that is relatively cool. Nonetheless, I consider myself a true Star Wars fan, I'm currently reading 3 Star Wars novels at the same time, I got Disney plus for Star Wars and the MCU, I collect Star Wars comics and merch.

I really like AOTC, the dialogue doesn't bother me, Anakin really seemed like a padawan, he could not express his feelings properly to the woman he loved. It happens to a lot of alter boys or choir boys... The greatest Jedi that ever lived...

This reminds me how SW fans boosted the box office for MEET JOE BLACK as they paid just to see TPM trailer than walked out....

I agree seeing SW w/ true fans is fun and I really enjoy discussion and analysing the movie afterwards and on the way home (Local cinema has a bar/lounge area).
However, during the movie, I want absolute silence and don't care for people's commentary...

I remember loving Attack of the Clones, but a part of me did not like it as much as TPM; like the second Lord of the Rings installment, Episode II gave off a detached feeling like nothing got accomplished and the real meat of the story was yet to come. I felt like the mysteries presented in the film were not explained (who ordered the Clone army? What was Count Dooku’s significance in all of this?) But I remember absolutely being beside myself with joy during the entire Tatooine sequence- we got to see the Lars homestead, Anakin was reunited with both Watto and his mother, and it was the loss of his mom that catapulted Anakin one big step closer into becoming Darth Vader. When he slaughtered the Sand People, I distinctly remember the epiphany I got: I FINALLY understanding what George Lucas was trying to say with Star Wars: “Anakin wasn’t tortured into evil-ness; instead, he allowed his obsession with those he loved and the fear that accompanied their loss lead him down that path to evil..”

I love "Attack of the Clones" - it is by far my fave of the prequels. But then again, I'm a hopeless romantic, so go figure on that point.

AOTC would be one of my favorite movies if the dialogue wasn't so horrible. The battle of Geonosis and the chase scene at the beginning, and also the fight between Jango and Obi-Wan were amazing. However, Anakin was a complete creep to Padme, and you can't help but wonder how practically nobody noticed the relationship between Anakin and Padme. The scene where they're rolling around in the grass is just cheesy, and could be better in so many ways. I think that it highlights his fall to the dark side when Anakin kills the sandpeople, and when he's complaining about Obi-Wan. I know some people don't like the way Anakin whines, and neither do I. That being said, I do understand that the whiny-ness is part of his character, and also underlines his fall to the dark side.

I also love that the movie shows Palpatine slowly taking over, and how his plan is falling perfectly into place. It adds a level of character to him that I didn't get from previous movies.

What I don't get, though, is how accepting of the clones the Jedi are. Supposedly, they were ordered by a Jedi thought to be dead some 10 years before. I know they need an army, but it's a little too convenient that they just so happened to have an army just in time for The Clone Wars.
This is also highlighted in an episode of TCW, in which the Jedi find out that their army was actually ordered by Dooku. It's always troubling when your enemy makes an army for you.

Altogether, I don't think AOTC is a bad movie, but I think it could be better.

I think that people are overall too harsh on the movie. Granted, it isn’t good, it does add to Anakin and Obi Wan’s relationship and character development. It also has some great fight scenes. A personal scene favorite of mine is when Anakin jets off on his speeder to go find his mother. That was just so cool to me as a kid!

    thoughts?

I really like AOTC, as I do ROTS. For the most part, I think AOTC is a very good movie. I really like the mystery aspect of it. I love seeing the origins of the stormtroopers. I remember the first time I saw the trailer and realized they were showing the beginnings of the stormtroopers. I was so excited! The movie has great action. I love the fight between Obi Wan and Jango Fett. I think the Battle of Geonosis is great! I like seeing the dynamic between Anakin and Obi Wan. The only real shortcoming to the movie is the Anakin/Padme scenes, which are indeed cringe-worthy. But I am able to overlook that in order to enjoy the rest of the movie.

Respect to everyone who loves it, but it's my least favourite due to Lucas' caving in with the fan service. Specifically the clone wars being anchored around Boba Fett, which I bet was never the plan in the beginning. To me there's a restricted feeling to this movie, which probably wouldn't have been there had TPM been appreciated more at the time.

GL had a plan, but he changes the story as he moves forward. You never know, maybe AOTC was better than he had originally planned.... the grass is always greener...

I read a quote years ago, but it was never expounded on and I would have loved to hear more. The poster essentially said that AOTC and ROTS would be totally different movies if TPM was beloved in 1999. He didn't get specific but it was the first time I really took a step back and wondered where the PT had gone if Lucas didn't feel the need to try to please the fans after the reception in 1999.
