ESB was very divisive when it was released, similar to TLJ. I guess ESB must also be a terrible movie.

All jokes aside. I would bet that as time goes by, the opinion will shift to more positive views of TLJ, especially once episode IX has come out.

The hyperbole continues. I'm assuming you have not seen TPM and AOTC IF you think TLJ was the worst Star Wars film ever. TLJ is SO bad Mark Hamill has been placed into consideration for an Oscar. I don't have any illusions about him winning, but he certainly deserves a nomination for his performance.

If I were Disney I'd go full steam ahead. There is absolutely no way I'd remove RJ. None. Zero. I'd simply offer him a suggestion: do NOTHING with the original characters and set your trilogy into the distant past. Get away from the saga film timeline.

I don't know. I liked the movie when I first watched it, but the more I reflect on it the more I dislike a lot of it. Hopefully you are right though.

If Michael Bay can be kept around after several bad Transformers movies, I see no reason why Disney should get rid of Rian based off of internet reactions.

I think he will do fine with a trilogy that is not set in the main saga. I feel a lot of his decisions in TLJ were not good choices, but I am hopeful that he can create a new and different story. I just wished he would have waited to do take so much liberty with the new trilogy and not TLJ.

Buzzfeed - Journalists Are Nervous About What A Disney And Fox Merger Would Mean For Them
“We’ve seen a pattern in Disney’s behavior. The more power they have, the more they wield it,” one entertainment reporter said.

I dunno. TLJ was basically a retread of TESB, weaker in some areas (Rey having a briefer reaction to her parents reveal and only getting a bit dismayed later when she's on her own at the end), but often stronger in others (bringing back TESB Vader in Kylo Ren, with Han Solo street-smarts/flexibility and a better version of the Emperor with Snoke (not random laughing and fewer lines of overly dramatic/pointless monolouging).

Also, not to harp on this point, but going against/adhering to ROTJ Luke is both this film's strong/weak point. ("Nobody's ever really gone"- besides the point of the OT, where the OT is inconsistent on the issue of one being redeemed or irredeemable, especially with the red lights symbolism in ROTJ, where Lucas states that Luke's going to the dark side if he simply accepts the Emperor's offer, but Vader is freed from the dark side, which he has already chosen in ROTJ, form the simple act of saving Luke's life). I think that the film was psychologically mature by presenting multiple points of view for the characters.
