The first time I've seen this since I saw it in the theater 25 years ago. I don't remember much about seeing it, I don't think I hated it but it didn't do anything for me either. I probably just thought it was weird. Apparently it has something of a cult following and I've been hearing it come up a lot lately (like 5 times in Cinemassacre videos alone) so I decided to watch it again. Because of what I imagine were budget restraints it takes place in this high tech future with a trippy virtual reality internet but it mostly takes place at a landfill in Newark. It was strangely entertaining though (probably because it was so strange) but not always intentionally entertaining.

I thought about watching a Friday The 13th movie but just a couple weeks ago there was a marathon of them on and we watched for a while even though all the kills were edited out. I put on Shudder and they didn't have anything special going, I guess too close to Halloween for another Joe Bob event but I put on one of the episodes I hadn't watched yet, Slumber Party Massacre II. Really weird. I've never seen the first movie but it's apparently just a slasher movie about a serial killer with a power drill who kills a bunch of girls at a slumber party and gets killed. Sounds terrible but I understand it's kind of a parody of slasher films. In the sequel one of the girls who survived the first movie is now being stalked by a different killer, a Nightmare On Elm Street type supernatural creature who comes out of her dreams complete with guitar drill.

He break dances and does musical numbers with original songs during his kills. As best I can tell (the movie explains nothing so I had to do a little research) the two killers are not related at all. It's not like this is the ghost of the guy from the first one it's just kind of like somebody surviving an attack by the Zodiac Killer only to come to Freddy Krueger's attention a few years later. They never explain what the Driller Killer is, why he's after her or anything. He never really speaks except to spout goofy rock and roll catch phrases or sing silly songs. He doesn't seem angry at anybody or to have any motive, just a guy with magical powers who seems to be having a great time and rocking out while he drills people. And in the end things get more confusing as they go for two "It was all just a dream... or was it" endings in a row that don't really work.

Went through Derek Cianfrance's filmography this weekend. Absolutely loved Blue Valentine and the first half of The Place Beyond the Pines.

I finally watched New Mutants! As a fan of the books they did a pretty good job not perfect... I can’t wait for the MCU to tackle these characters. I didn’t like that they changed Sunspot to Caucasian when we have so few POC in comics. They should’ve took their time to find an attractive POC. Cannonball in the comics is a leader in the film he is played timidly. Anya Taylor Joy did an amazing job as Magik IIIyana Rasputina aka Darkchilde but in comics she is a sweetheart in the film she’s that Vhlor which to me was very odd. Great character for the film, I think the writers wanted her to fit her moniker more so... translating comics to film can be daunting, drastic changes to film will be apparent to avid comic book readers. The horror twist is a great addition to the superhero genre. I hope Kevin Feige and MCU do a better job with these beloved characters that Chris Claremont created.
the character they got completely right was Wolfsbane, very religious. I’m getting the New Mutants omnibus for Xmas can’t wait.

I've noticed a funny thing about this movie over the years, it's often comes up in conversation and everybody seems to love it but as a guilty pleasure. It's so lazy and unoriginal that we should probably have forgotten it (or just hated it) but it has just enough heart and some fun performances that it has managed to stay popular. About 75% of the story/characters/situations were basically copied right out of the scripts for Necessary Roughness and Major League. This movie was dated the day it came out, it feels like the stereotypical late 80s/early 90s sports movie but it came out in 2000. Even the music is dated for some reason as it's a mix of songs that seem like they were taken off Jock Jams '93 or something plus like 3-4 songs off the Rolling Stones album "Voodoo Lounge". It almost feels like they worked out some cross-promotion with the Stones to advertise their new album except it was about 6 years old at that point and not even their most recent album. The tone, music and everything else about this movie makes it feel like it was written and produced about 6 years earlier then had a delayed release but that's not what happened.

The movie is very quotable and some quotes provide great wisdom but it's still a fun movie. Probably why a lot of people love it. I can't help to watch it everytime I see it on TV. It's just a football version of Major League.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I do like it. I was actually watching my own Blu Ray copy, though it's a Blu Ray that I probably wouldn't own if it hadn't been so cheap that I added it to my Amazon cart to avoid paying shipping. I don't know if it's very quotable but maybe I've just never heard anybody quote it or had the urge to quote it myself. And it's just a little too much like Major League and Necessary Roughness (which was already the football version of Major League) for comfort at times. I think the main thing that saved it from being the trainwreck it probably should have been were the performances. The cast all seem 100% committed to a film that you'd think would just be a paycheck for many of them.

Watching White House Down right now and cringing at the scene where the bad guys take out an M1 Tank with an RPG. Yeah I know it is just a movie but that is just too much BS for me....

*edit—-ok the tour guide is pretty cool, gotta love the scene with the “German Mantle Clock”.....

All the Alien movies are available on Amazon Prime.

So I rewatch the last three of the series because I saw them more than 20 years ago.

Aliens was a pretty good surprise. Great suspense with a lot of actions, some excellent scenes like Ripley x Queen Alien at the end of the movie.

Alien 3, I really like the atmosphere and the niilisthic way that the movie takes. Some of the dialogues are pretty good too, but I read that there's another version that its better.

Alien Ressurection was a really waste of time. Interesting that when I saw this movie more than 20 years ago I liked it.
