Enjoying this song before I get to play the game!

It's been years since I've heard anything from Baby Metal in any substantial form, so seeing thing team up with one of my new favorite rock bands in Bring Me the Horizon was a surprise, but a very welcome one to be sure. I've heard some of the other songs on the album, such as "Itch for the Cure" (a nice reference to current events and a great shoutout to Linkin Park's song "Cure for the Itch"), 1x1*, and "One Day the Only Butterflies Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Death," featuring Evanescence's leading lady. "Teardrops" is good too, but I feel like the meaning fans have ascribed to it fits more with "Drown" instead. And continuing the comparisons, "Teardrops" feels a bit like LP's "Numb."

Oh, and for you Stormlight fans out there, "Kingslayer" is most definitely Szeth's theme song.

I found this happy tune this morning as I watched someone take 100 hours to make lasagna. No thank you! But the song has a sort of spring-summer chill to it, despite its wintery name. I could see myself listening to it on a cold march day, while the sun shines and melts the snow around. That ethereal time between the mud and the slush... It also reminds me of Pokemon Sun and Moon, so I'm happy with it. 4

MuteMath was one of my favorite bands nearly ten years ago. I haven't really followed them since their second full album, though. But this popped up on my feed, and I really enjoyed it!

Bringing back this old favorite! It's one of my favorite Utada songs, and I need to rebuy it sometime. I remember first listening to this with a sort of Kingdom Hearts AMV. Since then it always struck me as weird that this was never a theme song for a Kingdom Hearts game. Don't get me wrong, I adore Simple and Clean and have been listening to it a LOT this month, but still. Then again, seeing as this song was a tribute to a tragedy in Japan, I can see why they wouldn't do that.

I just started listening to them tonight, and I think I've found a new J-Rock band to love.

Someday I'd like to make a playlist combining Linkin Park's stuff, BMTH's stuff, and Mike Shinoda's solo album. It would be a pretty tragic story, since One More Light and Post-Traumatic already tell a pretty sad story IMO...anyways, here are some mixes of BMTH and LP.

From Linkin Park comes "High Voltage"

And honestly, there should be more. There are entire albums I've been meaning to buy for months, and now they're starting to pile up. Hopefully I'll get the chance to do so.

*I firmly believe that this is what people wanted Linkin Park's "Heavy" to be. I don't have a problem with either version, and I think they work together as a pairing of sorts.

I knew it this band was reminding me of Coldrain, but I couldn't place the song. It's "Final Destination" by Coldrain!

Not only is this new song AWESOME, it's also going to be the OP to Log Horizon Season 3. So one of my new favorites songs by one of my new favorite bands is going to be the OP of one of my favorite anime. This is GIANT win in my books! English lyrics are in the subtitles, so check it all out if you'd like. Now my dilemma is if I'll buy this song when I eventually splurge and buy their entire discography, or if I wait until next year when their new album comes out.

Their songs, "Rinne (Reincarnation)", "Mirage", and "Catharsis" are awesome too. The latter two have a softer, anime-opening feel as opposed to the harder style that "Rinne" and "Different' possess.

This has been on the radio and I've been digging it. It reminds me of Jasmine Thompson's cover of Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire" and Lil' Wayne's "Mirror" due to the guitar and tone. Those are where the similarities end, however; so I guess it's like me saying that the PS4 Spider-Man game is like the Batman Arkham series due to them having similar fighting gameplay, or that chicken wings and chicken tenders are the same because they're both fried chicken. (I'd prefer to say that Spider-Man is a spiritual successor to the Arkham games.)

In my endless procrastination and early morning breaks, I found a pretty cool band called Meet Me @ the Altar. If you're a fan of old-school Paramore (All We Know is Falling, Riot!, and Brand New Eyes), then you'll definitely like them. They sound almost exactly like Paramore.

And the best part? It's a band entirely made up of women of color! I can barely describe how amazing that is. I sometimes feel weird about my love for rock, especially during my punk-rock phase. This band, starring a black woman as their singer and face of the band...I can't even imagine how many young women they can reach who now don't have to feel conflicted over liking one thing versus culture and society telling them to like another.

I'm also digging Jidenna's "85 to Africa." The song, not the album...yet. It's my favorite of the album, but I admittedly haven't listened to much of it yet. I won't be surprised if this doesn't change either, however - his shorter rap songs tend to be my favorite.

I also found out about H.E.R. this past week. I've been meaning to do a deeper dig into her (heh) music, but that'll probably wait until Christmas.
There's an all-girl J-Rock band called Trident that I also want to check out.

In throw-backs, I've grooved to Ariana Grande's "The Way" once or twice this week along with "Knew Better/Forever Boy."

Edit: After restarting my computer this week, YouTube no longer shows the videos I want to link as embedded. It only gives the link. Sigh...Microsoft what did you do now...?

In what's seeming to be a weekly occurrence, I've discovered a new band. ...and I really have saved this post for Friday, like the other posts...

Anyways, they go by Gesu No Kiwame Otome, which translates directly to "the girl at the height of rudeness," but I think they've transliterated it to mean "the Lowest, Lowest Girl," looking at some of their collaborations and stuff. I found them through a video about the best J-Rock female drummers, and their drummer popped up. So I checked a song out and liked it enough to check out a few more.

Anyways, the first song on the listing is the one that really drew me into them, and is one of the best (alt-rock) songs I've heard in a LONG time. It's gorgeous. I'm also just a sucker for rock songs that incorporate strings instruments. It's why I like Foo Fighters' live cover of "The Pretender" better than the regular song, why I'm such a big fan of the band Red, and why I liked Yellowcard as a kid.*
The last song listed reminds me of Tokyo Ghoul's third opening, "Asphyxia." I actually don't watch Tokyo Ghoul, but I've definitely enjoyed the opening songs.

Overall I'm not to the point where I want to buy their whole discography, but I think I'm quickly getting there. I'll need to hear a few more songs first.

Other than that, I've been really enjoying Lecrae's songs on the Spider-Man: Miles Morales soundtrack (and I STILL haven't played it! Sooooooon....). It's been so long since I've heard Lecrae! He was the first rapper that I actually liked, but I haven't followed his career in over a decade or so. I've seen him pop up in collabs with people like Lindsey Stirling and other weird places, but I never sat down to actually listen. And seeing him here? Yes please!

Of course, I've listened to a little more Band-Maid and some other, random songs. I finally started my dive into From Ashes to New, and I can say, that their song "Panic" is EXACTLY what old-school LInkin Park fans want.

*Which reminds me, a rock station I used to listen to as a kid (which has now since changed hands and genre) used to have this thing on Friday or Saturday nights called "Scratch and Sniff," where they'd combine two songs you didn't think would work into one. One of those mixes was Foo Fighter's "The Best of You," and Linkin Park's "Faint." It was awesome.

EDIT: Band-Maid released the track-listing of their 2021 album. "Different" isn't on there, so I can buy it! ...as soon as it's available on iTunes...
