The voice of Vader has also already been recast. There's a guy named Matt Sloan who imitates the Vader voice, although I think he uses some sort of computer filter. He started out doing "Chad Vader" videos on YouTube, but he has appeared in official Star Wars products such as The Freemaker Adventures.

James Earl Jones is absolutely irreplaceable. But also, he has already been replaced.

Vader had also already been recast back in 1981, with Brock Peters doing the voice for the Star Wars radio play.

Brock Peters voiced the role again for the 1983 ESB radio play and again for the belated ROTJ radio play in 1996.

And a bunch of different narrators have done his voice in audiobooks with mixed results. But that is missing the mark. The question is whether that is what you would want to see in a future Star Wars movie? Do you actually want to see Darth Vader on the big screen when JEJ is no longer with us to do the voice?

I too don't understand this criticism of Alden, I thought he was great - he wasn't much like Harrison Ford the actor, but in terms of character he was totally Han Solo to me. By that same token, there's nothing but praise for Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan, undoubtedly the biggest recasting the series has ever had, who didn't look or sound anything like Alec Guinness. They didn't even bother to hide the mole on his forehead... guess old Obi Wan found time to go for cosmetic mole removal during his downtime on Tatooine, what with all the sun(s) and risk of melanoma and all.

In fact, the voice actor at the end of Rebels was the closest I've ever heard to a decent Alec Guinness Obi Wan impression.

Anyway, I know over the years there's been a lot of dodgy Darth Vaders in various video games etc, but I'm sure if they had to recast for a movie, they'd do so to perfection for such an important character; they know what he means to people. After all, I thought Guy Henry's vocal performance as Tarkin was literally flawless.

On that same note, might I add that likewise everyone seems to love Dee Bradley Baker as the voice of the Clones, even though he not only sounds nothing like Temuera Morrison but his New Zealand accent is quite literally utterly appalling. Given that he was pretty central to the entire show, I found The Clone Wars pretty tough going for a while until I learned to ignore it due to his horrendous accent that for me was barely a cut above Lloyd's "Austrian" impression in Dumb and Dumber.

I actually did not like the way Vader sounded in Rogue One so if they ever did make the switch I would be okay with it.

Kylo should bring Anakin and Pademe into the future to finish what Vader started.
