In Episode II when Anakin has returned from the Tusken camp, Padme consols him in the workshop in which she sees his anger and hatred for what what was done to his mother and what he did in the camp.

I have been thinking lately that what if it was Owen that consoled Anakin instead of Padme? Not only would it have been some alone time and character development between brothers but also would have placed more emphasis on the dinner scene in ANH where Owen tells Beru that he's afraid that Luke has too much of his father in him.

I don’t think it would have changed anything. As far as Anakin is concerned, Owen is just some random guy who happens to be his stepbrother now. I doubt he would have confessed his sins to anyone but Padme and Palpatine (which, as far as we know, are the only people who know what he did to that Tusken village.)

I do think that Owen’s relationship to Anakin was wasted potential in the prequels, but it would have been odd for Anakin to give his “I killed them all and will become the most powerful Jedi ever” spiel to Owen of all people.

Well, I am not sure about the scene. However a few extra minutes with dialogues between Anakin and Owen could have been a great add. In fact, ep 2 has many scenes with Anakin and Padme together, maybe a little bit too much. Owen and Beru could have had a better role.

Lars senior didnt seem like the warm and fuzzy type so I doubt Owen wouldnt be any different.
Same dude who wouldn't let Luke join the academy because he needed him on the farm....

    Thats true.

Alternatively, instead of Owen consoling him, maybe he encourages him. Reinforces his path a bit. Instead of saying "It's alright, don't worry about it" he could still maintain his (future) gruffness by saying something like "You did the right thing to those monsters."

That would have been an interesting dynamic.

Cinematically, it might taken away one of the dozen of red flag scenes between Anakin and Padme. In terms of story, it definitely wouldn't have worked out any better.

Owen was too young to have done that. It wouldn't have made sense. He was only a teenager, and Anakin was quite a bit older- by at least ten years. They were stretching the timeline to even have Owen appear as an adult, which is probably why Beru was only his girlfriend and not his wife. I've often thought about that point. Really, Owen should have been portrayed as a kid.

They're already asking us to forget that Owen would have been at the very most only 12 at the time. Probably closer to ten. He didn't have the maturity to console Anakin, who was much older and a Jedi.

Huh? Not sure how you came to that conclusion considering Owen is clearly in his forties/ early fifties in A New Hope. Joel Edgerton was 27 when portraying the younger Lars, Phil Brown was 51 when playing the older Lars. 22 years passes between AOTC and ANH, and there isn't a canonical birth date for Owen Lars. If there's anything to complain about here, it's that Lars didn't look old enough.
Except Owen in that scene is afraid Luke would run off to war and get himself killed. Wouldn't really fit with the whole Anakin finding his mother plotline. It seemed Lars' concern for Luke came more so from his love for Shmi, than any conversations he would have had with Anakin.

That's being overly generous. At best he is late fifties.
