Favourite music in Star Wars

Thank God for John Williams, I couldn't imagine Star Wars with anybody else's music. My favorite is The rebel fleet/End credits from ESB, It has a little bit of everything in it. This is the music of my childhood and listening to it takes me back there.

 

I could imagine it happening easily enough. No one is more important that Lucas because without him none of this happens. If Lucas had chosen other people then Star Wars would still exist because he created it.

RM's designs were from his imagination and the style of music is what he wanted from anyone who he would have been chosen.

We can't know what anyone else would have done but it's not like if Goldsmith got the gig that we'd at all be in any less wonder of what he would have done because we wouldn't know otherwise.

 

THE FORCE THEME. All. Day.

 

I have to say the best musical moment in Star Wars is the very beginning when the screen is black and then the words STAR WARS in yellow suddenly appear and the music blares. You get that amazing feeling in your gut and you know you are about to go through an incredible journey. I can't wait for that moment to come again when Episode VII hits theaters.

 

ESB Asteroid chase, ANH Sunset, TPM Duel of Fates, Imperial March is classic of course. I LOVE Yoda's theme in ESB, espesially when hes pulling the X-wing out. The Cantina song and the Jawa music in ANH is fun. And of course, "Jedi Rocks" is always a big fan favorite.

 

The music that plays as soon as the main theme ends - the first Star Wars the world saw. The little rebel ship is fleeing away surrounded by lasers and the Star Destroyer passes indomitably overhead. The music sounds like the end part of Gustav Holst's Mars from The Planets, and its super awesome. The creepy 5/4 time signature and blaring horns just feels like the enormity of a Galactic Empire. Everything about that scene is perfect.

 

The Imperial March, of course.
The music that plays during Luke's final rageful bout with Vader (with the guys vocalizing).
Portions of the Battle of Endor music. I'd swear parts of it actually sound like X-wings flying and firing their lasers.
The music playing during the Cloud City escape, with those odd oboes or something.
And the music that plays when Anakin/Padmé are being led into that arena in EP II.

 

I can honestly say that I love it all. John Williams is a master in the truest sense. Sometimes, I will be doing something and one of his SW themes will pop into my head randomly. I just love it all. Probably the closest thing man will come to creating perfection.

 

Of course I love the main theme song, but having heard it so much, it might be edged out of the #1 spot by "Across the Stars" which is the Padme/Anakin song. In it you can hear a few bars from "Duel of the Fates" which is the song played when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are fighting Darth Maul- those few notes turn a beautiful orchestral arrangement into something truly haunting.

And, the Imperial March is the ringtone my phone plays when my husband calls. Never fails to get a smile from people who happen to be around when I push the button and say "Hi, honey."

 

Its all great. Binary Sunset always gets to me, though I also love the opening crawl, Han/Leia romance, and the Duel of Fates from the prequels.

 

You know, I just never cared for Asteroid Field. When I listen to it without watching the film, the beginning of it sounds like it should accompany a clown car or Keystone Cops skit. Just my weird interpretation, I guess.

The ringtone I have for my daughter should be Leia's theme song, since that's her name, but it's too quiet to get my attention. So I use the klaxon alert from Star Trek that includes the words "Ten minutes to auto destruct" which actually is applicable about half the time when she calls.

I got a new car last year and didn't quite know how to handle the built-in phone or quite a few other features on the car. My youngest son and I were driving along when she called in with that ringtone and I couldn't figure out how to answer the phone, the dash lights were blinking, the klaxons were sounding and my youngest was freaking out. "OMG mom what do we do? What do we do?" I think he thought the car was going to blow. For a second there, I did too.

 

As a kid, the theme always scared the crap out of me at how it just pops out of nowhere. Hell, your current avatar pretty much sums up my reaction.

 

With the last post of this discussion in september 2015, I believe it would deserve to be revived as a topic.

So far the discussion only entailed John Williams (original trilogy and prequel trilogy). Since then he added music of the sequel trilogy and Solo. We have also gotten great musical additions to the Star Wars universe by Michael Giacchino (Rogue One) and Ludwig Goransson (The Mandalorian). And let's also not forget Kevin Kiner (Clone Wars, Rebels) and Michael Tavera (Resistance). I think everything together the amount of Star Wars music might have doubled since then.

My favourite songs in my Star Wars Spotify list are Ahsoka Lives, Open The Door and Come With Me from Ludwig Goransson. I honestly think he is brilliant and let's hope that he will stick around for time to come. For me a new era of Star Wars music has started. With the new streaming series coming up I am very curious what type of music we will see added to the existing material.

favorite track is luke's freakout in the throne room when he attacks vader. its actually a combination of the emperor's theme and the main star wars(luke's) theme. williams at his best.

 

I literally get chills every time I watch the sunset scene from ANH. John Williams was able to create a song that represents the light, the good, the force. It represents Luke. It represents hope and urgency. Its so hard to describe. Thats why the song is literally magical.
